To think that Natural Born Smoker advert played in cinemas... that giant screen... in the dark... holy shit. I don't even want to watch it on my PC monitor, let alone a dark cinema. And the fact that it's somewhere in the ad reel just fills me with an unbelievable amount of dread. It's like, you don't know when it's coming, but it's coming. And you will be frightened like never before.

I loved how you put the trailers together but here’s a few things that may help you out in the cinema company’s history.
When Cannon Cinemas bought out EMI which had control over the ABC cinema chain in 1986 licensing changed between Rank which owned Odeon and Cannon which divided film company distribution Paramount/Universal/MGM Warner Bros and Cannon’s own movies and trailers were segregated to the ABC/Cannon cinema chain Buena Vista (Disney/Touchstone) /20th Century Fox/Orion Pictures/Columbia/Tri Star/Miramax and MGM/UA were under license to Rank/Odeon.
However Independent local cinemas could use either of the distributors at the time.
So using a Cannon cinema trailer reel would consist of the films governed by those distributors mainly UIP or Columbia-Cannon-Warner.
Same with the advertising Pearl & Dean were also used by ABC/Cannon however Odeon used RSA (Rank Screen Advertising)
Not being critical or judgemental just offering a bit of info if you decide to do any more
    Great upload bud

Definitely appreciate the thorough feedback, especially given I'm doing these reels for weekly film nights for my own family now too rather than for just me and maybe also this channel when I feel like it. x)
I saw a cinema reel recreation circa 1985 from ABC Cinemas that definitely made me wonder how things were like in the transition of ABC to Cannon, especially given the actual cinema reel format is really different (NEVER knew music promos before anything else were a thing! Wonder when that stopped). Funnily enough, the whole idea of this being emblematic of my *town's* Cannon cinema is also false now given I just learn't that cinema became a Cannon one later than this rather than around this time. Exciting that there's still lots to learn and find out! Thank you. :D

That being said, here's definite proof that Cannon Cinemas back then would show Disney films, as this photograph of a London Cannon in 1986 openly displays "Flight of the Navigator" as showing there. --> www.arthurlloyd.co.uk/Carlton/Brochure/1.jpg
So, what's up with that? :O

things2tings Yeah it’s an odd one I think some Cannon cinemas in local towns could show certain movies by any distributor but others couldn’t especially in the city.
In Manchester the Odeon on Oxford Road and ABC/Cannon on Deansgate for some strange reason were spliced by the distributors why that was I don’t know but I do know the Cannon multiplex at Salford Quays could show both at times and not others I don’t know it’s daft if you ask me but really loving how much detail you’ve put into these fantastic I miss the old music accompaniment or double features along with the static crackle which to me is classic cinema going not like today.

@@scottptolomey3498 I mean...this is all really interesting stuff and I *will* look into how I'll implement this stuff, if I do. Currently, I put a lot of research in which trailers come out within the window of the releases of each film and the ratings of them (including potential cuts) so I'd decide on what'd be most appropriate to place so having to bare in mind studio compatibility with chains would be another spanner in the gears buuuuut overtime, it shouldn't be as hard when I've got stuff down easier and faster so we *shall* see what happens. :)
Still, thank you very much! Again, I gotta say that ABC cinema reel really taught me more about that time than I ever expected. I'm getting a reel done for an ABC Cinema-style reel for a future film night for the house (set a month-ish before the cinema of the setting turned into a Cannon) and...I do think the idea of having music vids, then trailers, THEN ads before a short intermission before the feature is a bit more faff than we have now but it *does* have a certain charm to it. A kind of "hey, welcome, come relax" kinda vibe that more typical, newer cinema reels don't have as much. Music videos at the cinema alone's a fun concept, so yeah I can DEFINITELY see the appeal.
Really, what appeals to me with these is the idea of capturing the feeling of when these films were first out, almost like time-travelling to experience a film as it was originally delivered, soaking in the general feel of when this stuff was current and fresh in the minds of people. Also, I just like the idea of going in for an *experience* with watching a film and having it presented to you rather than just shoved in front of you like its nothing, that proberbly explains my interests in VHS openings too (on top of nostalgia, oops). I'm glad that you're enjoying my work with these and I *definitely* appreciate the pointers. Feel free to give any more, when you feel you need to and its appropriate!

things2tings Great minds definitely do think alike I loved the whole experience of going to a cinema back in the 70s and the 80s everything from the usherettes in the stalls to soundtracks being played or a music video put on before the trailer reels there was definitely a huge buzz waiting for a film to start back then or even watching the ads too but again it’s the same thing Walls ice cream confectionary or Coca Cola seemed to be allocated to ABC and Pepsi and Lyons Maid to Rank Odeon yet Kia Ora was both of those chains yet in the 70s Coca Cola was the main staple for both of the chains.
What saddened me was The Cannon Group made everything on the cheap they bought bottom of the barrel scripts that other film companies wouldn’t touch !!! and turned them into cheap and awful B movies and it was the same with their cinema technique even though they squandered millions on the new age of cinema multiplex ventures back in the 80s they cut out music cues and promo videos completely because they wouldn’t need to pay a fee for music advertising so it became a no frills affair of trailers, ads ....film no usherette no feel of being welcomed to watch a movie no atmosphere at all.
The company amassed huge debts in such a very very short time and four or five years after they took over the ABC franchise which had been going for over four decades their cinemas rapidly started to close even studio giants Columbia MGM/UA and Warner’s severed partnerships with Cannon and the company basically imploded by the turn of the 90s.
Cinema going now is nothing like it was there seems to be no feel good factor anymore nobody wants the HD Dolby Atmos surround sound that most people have in their homes and digital technology on a projection screen you want the blips the crackles the imperfections that to me was all about going to cinema for a great night out back in the day and it’s so sad how downhill it’s gone in the last 20 years or so.

It shouldn't be too hard for you to convert this to an MP4 file and burn this onto a DVD yourself, or even a Blu-ray disc. The methods of which you do that I don't know if I can say, though if you're willing to do the research you'll find what you need. :) And obviously, uh, you need to supply the film yourself too.

    • @things2tings734

Initially in Israel, which is Cannon's origin country, but they then expanded into other territories in the height of Cannon's all-or-nothing successes in the 80's (so all-or-nothing that they unfortunately went bankrupt in the 90's). Where the UK goes, Cannon bought the ABC Cinemas chain and converted them into Cannon Cinemas. Cannon also had a fairly chunky presence in the UK elsewhere, both in the film production and film distribution sides of things, so I'm sure that also helped. x)

I love the video and this channel especially, personally I think you did a great job emulating how trailer reels would have looked in those days. Good work. That Pearl and Dean song is too iconic to not make me smile too. I came here from your main channel. I'm very much interested in archiving TV history, particularly in mainly channels like Nick, Nick Jr, Nick Toons, Cartoon Network, Toonami, Boomerang, Jetix from 2000-2010 and Sky One from 2000-2005 in the mornings at 9am (when new Pokemon episodes used to come on). I read in the about section on your other channel that: "I only use VHS tapes either from when I was a kid or those I acquired independently through eBay or elsewhere outside of the net.". Since I also share the hobby I was wondering whether you know of any communities that are interested in archiving UK TV history? I've tried looking but I can't find any. Also I was wondering whether you have any tips as to how you can find VHS/DVD recordings online, since I am finding it ends up as a bit of a gamble since most people don't know what is on it.
Last question is whether you would be willing to share the full uncut version of a few of your VHS tapes perhaps in a link through Google Drive in the description of your videos? Particularly for these three tapes:
th-cam.com/video/cBs7cNqF0mM/w-d-xo.html - Cartoon Network (UK) - Ads and continuity (Autumn 2002)
th-cam.com/video/bayaj6v2wjY/w-d-xo.html - Cartoon Network UK - Ads and continuity (October 2003)
th-cam.com/video/d6xdGg80MLE/w-d-xo.html - Boomerang (UK) TV Ads and Continuity (September-October 2004)
If not, then no problem, I completely understand. I just thought there was no harm in asking since a few other TH-camrs who do similar things share the uncut version of the tape, e.g.: th-cam.com/video/1znRaPCfWYY/w-d-xo.html
Best wishes and keep your amazing work up!

First of all, welcome to this channel and I'm really glad you liked the video and felt I did a good job emulating this stuff, let alone other stuff in the channel!
Secondly, I'm not too sure what to say with finding things on TH-cam from old VHS tapes where specific things go but the best I can say is "think about what kind of network you think this stuff would be on, what the timeframe would of been of when that stuff was on (say, December 1994 or March 2002 or whatever) and when you have the time, go searching and browsing and keep on going until you either find what you'd like, or close enough, or decide it's too much of a long shot to keep searching". I DO recommend you do this in the time you actually have where this stuff goes, because other things in your life are important - often even more important - than this stuff after all and you should make sure you use your time well! Oh and, obviously, do this stuff when it still feels fun or interesting to you. If it starts feeling annoying or tedious or you feel some sort of burn-out, feel free to put your attention to something else before dipping back in.
I don't specifically engage in such communities, but I'm *VERY* certain there's decent community spots for UK TV history talk. When I was nearly 13, I discovered sites like TVArk, TV Whirl and a bunch of ident-centric websites. These were mostly there to share stuff but some of them will have boards, I'm very certain and a lot of those sites are still running. Again, look around and see what's best for you! Like a lot of other countries, I think the UK has a big soft spot for TV nostalgia and there's no shortage of people who're dorkily into it enough that they'd want to preserve the things that may otherwise be overlooked outside of people *in charge* in the TV industries and those who're part of the creative segments in those industries who create presentation-y things. And many other industry people besides, depending on the thing that's of most interest to you (which can also include or be ads, one-time broadcasts, potentially lost media, etc).
As for that last thing? Well, for those specific 3 links, I'm afraid I'll have to say no. I don't like the idea of taking massive amounts of copyrighted content and distributing that stuff on Google Drive and feel more comfortable sharing the stuff that I know would be easier to overlook and wouldn't just be, y'know, me literally distributing pirate copies of TV episodes and movies that're being widely distributed elsewhere for profit by the people who own them. In other words, I try *not* to partake in distributing piracy as I want people to support the things they like through putting profit to those things, if those things are being distributed TO make profits. THAT BEING SAID, I guess one day I'd look into one or two full show uploads with ads but they'd have to be a lot more niche and, uh...I dunno how many people would want to see an almost full episode of "Jameson Tonight" from 1989 beyond morbid curiosity. Someone ALSO wanted me to once upload the entirety of the "Simpsons" panel show that was on Channel 4's "Simpsons Night" on Channel 4 and I think that's a good idea, but I'd have to do something clever with the Simpsons clips used throughout to avoid the copyright bots...hmmm...
      Thanks for your interest!
