Brilliant. Really took me back to when I was 12. Qued outside cinema for over an hr to see batman. Attention to detail was great and a great year for films
Lovely stuff as always - especially the Cannon logo carpet! I saw Batman at the Cannon, Wolverhampton. It was a good month after it came out though as we couldn't get tickets!
Such awesome detail as usual. The foyer recreation with ‘coming soon’ posters, dimly lit and with Lyon’s maid at the concession stand is so well conceived. It takes me back. Thank you!
16:56 "There will now be a whopping great intermission, during which small ice creams in very large boxes will be sold. Another way we can drive people away from the cinema is by showing you advertisements."
Again great work. Some suggestions for other ones are Superman 1978, The Exorcist, 2001 A space odyssey, Jurassic Park, The Godfather, An American Werewolf in London.
I'm from the U.S., so I can't claim a nostalgia factor personally, but nonetheless this stuff is still really interesting to me! There is definitely a clear distinction between British cinema presentation and of that this side of the Pond. Cinema advertising was limited over here until around the year 2000, and it was usually limited to still ads ran in a slide show prior to screening the trailers, and often times these were ads for local businesses. Most full motion ads we'd get would be for concession stand items at best. Just a question, when exactly did ABC Cinemas become Cannon Cinemas? I've read that Cannon took over ABC in 1986, but it seems that the ABC branding continued for a bit longer. The acquisition could be felt here in North America as Thorn-EMI's home video partnership here with HBO (Thorn-EMI/HBO Video) became HBO/Cannon Video that same year as a result.
@@LogoMan7777 I think they bought Thorn Emi Screen Entertainment, who in turn owned the ABC chain at the time. It's why Highlander has a Cannon logo at the start but says Thorn Emi Presents. :)
For this one, a lot comes from memory, yes - it was a formative experience! Can't say the trailer package is 100% accurate but it's true to the releases that would have come to the Cannon over subsequent weeks. I'm reliably informed trailers were shown first up until about 1987 - apparently advertisers had more clout before then (so their stuff would end up being seen closer to the film).
@@jonnof77 Also, not sure if this will be of any use, but I'm creating a database of official release dates back to the 1960s for UK cinema releases - including BBFC theatrical certificates and distributors. Might help when selecting trailers for these.
Hard to say at this point - I've made reels for Predator and Point Break but they're fairly similar in terms of content to T2. Not sure if folks are interested in every single thing I turn out!
Dude, I love these reels, even some of them are similar, nothing is perfect. What I love is how u deliver the presentation, the old look of the building back in the day, to music, the sense of how u make it real. Even if it might take more time, I like the whole look. Your content is original then anyone else, keep the good work.
I remember one movie I went to see in the early 90's, it had a music video of Queen's Break Through at the leeds odeon. I can't remember which movie i saw?
IJatLC was released several weeks earlier so, while it's feasible it would still be showing, it's not a given the trailer would still be screened (whereas Young Einstein was still on its way - it was out in the UK the following month).

And that's why I do it! Thank you.
OMG This is awesome, cheers dude
this is my childhood memories again. Thank you
That's the idea! Glad you liked it.
This was the best ever year for cinema releases. When cinema entertained not ticking boxes. ❤️😎
I agree, though I have a soft spot for the summer of '95 too...
Yeah
Yeah, films like Lethal Weapon 2 where the goal was merely to entertain the audience with no political messaging.
That was awesome. Keep up the amazing work 😊

The first Batman movie I ever watched at the cinema was Batman Forever.

Cinema Reels
1. Back To The Future II - 24th November 1989
2. Young Einstein - 20th October 1989
Cannon? That’s new!
It was about time! They may not have been around for as long some of the other chains, but their years were great ones.
@@jonnof77 Cannon bought ABC Cinemas and quickly converted them. Then, they later became MGM Cinemas, then Virgin, and so on.

@@colin654 That's more or less what happened.
Ill say it again, these are pure magic. with Halloween upon us all soon ,how about a classic horror one next.
Excellent idea!
Oh “Young Einstein” aka “Einstein Junior”. I remember the poster but when looking for that movie kept finding results for “Young Frankenstein”
when this movie came out I was way too young to see it since in the usa 🇺🇸 it was rated pg 13. saw it on vhs 📼 and enjoyed if. very dark movie.
Ads had a more happier feel then
You know, I find it rather odd that British cinemas have a sales interval just before the film. It's also rather nice. They don't do that in America.
Well, if you ain’t gone and done it again ! Do you do these from memory ? When did cinemas start to show ads before trailers?

It was the norm - only a few chains like ABC put trailers before ads.

"Eat Me" Doughnuts... 😂😂😂
Wow! Your videos are amazing. Do you have take commissions? I would love to have a similar clip that I could play before each of my classes
Yes, I could probably do that. Send over your ideas to jonnoff at (popular domain for messages starting with a G).
@@jonnof77 Thank you. I have done so
@@Beneaththeglitterball I have sent you a reply!
Jono, do you happen to have the pre-78 Columbia-Warner ident and the Columbia-Cannon-Warner ident?
I'm afraid I haven't tracked those down yet. The former would certainly be good to find - I really should have had it in my A Clockwork Orange reel.

Haven't had much time to work on these for a while, but I have something planned for Halloween!

@@jonnof77 But once your computer is fixed what will be your next cinema reel?
wait a minute so are you telling me that batman was the first film to get a 12/a rating
The first '12', yes. 12A (with the added 'advisory' element) came along with Spider-Man in 2002.
@@jonnof77 i think it was the bourne identity that got the 12a rating first
@@najhydro I just check and you're absolutely right. Seems Spider-Man was already out as a '12' but hastily re-certified once 12A became an option.
