@sandurz on the verge of death because he had to sit here and remake this pure off-rhythm trash (by contract) and his face throughout the video says it all. I see his brain sound wave files and their saying “I wonder if my MPC power cord is strong enough to hang out the window by my neck”
No, the sample isn't from the end of the bar plus the beginning of the same bar, it's from the end of one bar and continues onto the next (at 0:10-0:11 in the sampled song)
This kinda reminded me of that one Moment of Truth skit at the end of Royalty when Premier goes in on people using his name and snitchin on the records he samples hahahaha. Sandurz, you be violatin straight up and down!!
Now you got websites dedicated to sample snitching (who sampled). I think that does more harm than good for the producers, but the samples he used are no secret thanks to that site
Another great vid, thanks man. Premo's stuff is mindblowing, absolute genius. Is there any chance you could do either Keisha's Song by Kendrick Lamar, or Soda & Soap by Masta Ace please? 2 of my favourites of all time, would love to see you break them down!
i know its been along time but i found it.... vocaroo.com/i/s1BMch8XGnzY im still not able to place where it came from, but this is def the original audio. seems to me like its an old film or tv show, the audio has a faint bell ring and a siren in he back ground along with subtle footsteps (which could be the actors moving in the scene or the behind the camera people moving (common at that age of film making) )
I highly recommend you watch the video "The INSANE Musical Math of DJ Premier and Mos Def" by the TH-cam Channel "Digging The Greats", if you have not seen it already. He lists all the samples used by Dj Premier. Great video. It was my introductions to your channel. I subscribed.
I would have thought the most distinctive/noteworthy aspect of "mathematics" is how the original sample is kept at a different (slower) tempo to the beat.
Yo, man I love watching your videos, man they're great! I love learning about how producers get to make their songs. Could you do a beat by DOOM or Madlib (Or Madvillain)? That'd be dope!
Great !!! Just one more question on the touch the sky breakdown how were u able to get the audio in stereo u had one part with audio n the other without
King Armani for that specifically I used Ableton's Utility effect to mess with the channel balances and mute one or the other. I also use mono recording in Maschine and pick just the left or the right channel as the input. Few other ways to do it too!
You got the sample chops pretty much down (sometimes not as punchy) -- props! Drums aren't those primo drums --need more oomph and downsampling! Nice breakdown overall though
Thanks! Primo I do knowing the drums I won't ever quite nail but the chops he picks are always suuuch good examples of sampling and transforming rhythms from the original into something else.
Pretty good but i would say for the drums to put a lil more bass on the kick n on the snare while turning the snare a very slight semi-tone up n the hi-hats a little softer for sure but the melody is on point...you stay on it strong oh & off too Is amazing
Tracklib did a great job on finding all the samples, you can check it out if you are interested in finding out how the vocals chops were added to the hook section: th-cam.com/video/--A_89lTuiA/w-d-xo.html
Vocal samples are from:
Mos Def ft. Q-Tip - Body Rock
Fat Joe & Big Pun ft. Nas - John Blaze
Big C - Look Alive
Raekwon - Criminology
Angelis Davis Interview by Art Seigner
Erykah Badu - On & On
James Brown - Funky Drummer
Siiiick, that you found that interview!!!
@@thesoundofmo I found that out, too
Just wanna say I love watching your videos every week! It's amazing to watch the breakdown and you do a great job of reproducing these iconic beats
scottyokem glad you like em. I'll keep at it!
The repeating sample that goes, “I revolve around science” is from Criminology by Raekwon. You will hear it at about 0:49
I get excited when I see these videos posted
I watched this, heard the compiled beat at the end, still shocked there's a pattern at all to this beat. Awesome work man!
Bucka bucka bucka bucka
When did Robin Thicke start making beats
Derek Barrero LOL haven't heard that one before
I don’t get it. Fill me in

@@Sandurz th-cam.com/video/DQGr_F5ZC5o/w-d-xo.html minute 4.39 ;)

I see his brain sound wave files and their saying “I wonder if my MPC power cord is strong enough to hang out the window by my neck”
That “what are we talking about here” part came from Art Seigner’s interview with Angela Davis in 1971.
You gotta realize...it was the sampling limitations with the equipment he was using which made him use "odd" parts of the sample. Ingenius really!
Yo! We appreciate your digging and hard work! Love the series. Keep it coming, peace
momma - kendrick lamar
Jared Samson damn I really gotta get that one figured out on a quality level...the demand is too real!
+Sandurz Sounds like a hard one!! But I too want to heard a breakdown of that particuliar beat
+Sandurz its knxwledge production, good luck
+the boy please:)
can you post this one again? seems like it got taken down
Can you do When i be on the mic by rakim
This obviously took hours when DJ Premier did it.
Facts, it’s a hell of a lot harder to actually create something than just recreate it
@@Ben-xf4dq no shit
yeah dude imagine finding that track, chopping that up into every little piece and doing a track like that from scratch
Hell... it probably took weeks for THIS mothafucka ta do it! hahaahha :D
This is fucking amazing, even 6 years later.
Love the videos, man. Just stumbled upon one and I've been checking out all my favourites ever since! Been waiting for something like this
you should do "Wouldn't Get Far"
The birds chirping sample is best described in Group Home's "Suspended in Time"
+Sandurz- I think the "Mighty Mos Def" scratch sample is from "B-boy document 99" with High&Mighty and Mad skills. Love The videos homie.
Man, your channel is amazing. Thanks so much. This is gold.
+Roger Heathers glad you like it
No, the sample isn't from the end of the bar plus the beginning of the same bar, it's from the end of one bar and continues onto the next (at 0:10-0:11 in the sampled song)
Devil's Pie by D'Angelo? Prod by DJ Premier
Word!!
Cool. Could you do a recreation of a beat by El-p or Cannibal Ox? Would be cool.
I would love to see him remake Iron Galaxy
Yeah that would be great!
This kinda reminded me of that one Moment of Truth skit at the end of Royalty when Premier goes in on people using his name and snitchin on the records he samples hahahaha.
Sandurz, you be violatin straight up and down!!
i do wonder what Preemo thinks
Now you got websites dedicated to sample snitching (who sampled). I think that does more harm than good for the producers, but the samples he used are no secret thanks to that site
thats the mighty dj premier on that beat...no wonder its hard asf
*_*it's_*
You area so thorough and brought this track into my brain in a whole new way, thanks!
This guy does his homework im hooked on his beat breakdowns lol
man for beatmakers you have the dopest channel on youtube my dude. so much props to you for figuring out these trade secrets haha
Even when I hear the Fatback sample I STILL don't know how Primo came up with this.True genius at work.
Another great vid, thanks man. Premo's stuff is mindblowing, absolute genius. Is there any chance you could do either Keisha's Song by Kendrick Lamar, or Soda & Soap by Masta Ace please? 2 of my favourites of all time, would love to see you break them down!
You should do What A Mess by Xzibit, that has one of my favorite DJ Premier beats ever!
You're freakin' natural at this. Freakin legendary.
Here's the "What are we talking about here" sample @ 4:39 th-cam.com/video/DQGr_F5ZC5o/w-d-xo.html
So posted 6 yrs ago. Have the samples turned up yet?
Where did this dude go
Great breakdown!
Sandurz where you been dude? You fell off the map. What happened?
Outstanding videos. Cheers.
Probably my top three beats on that stellar album, but nothing really beats (heh) the Ms. Fat Booty beat for me, that sounds fantastic.
Erikah Badu - On and On "Do your math"
It's Erykah with a "Y".
That vocal sample is at 4:37 th-cam.com/video/DQGr_F5ZC5o/w-d-xo.html
Ever consider covering Ms. Fat booty in one of your future videos?
Great videos!
Could you do Ten Crack Commandments maybe?
i know its been along time but i found it.... vocaroo.com/i/s1BMch8XGnzY

Beat suggestion: doomsday - MF doom.
I would have thought the most distinctive/noteworthy aspect of "mathematics" is how the original sample is kept at a different (slower) tempo to the beat.
Dj preemo inspired my chop style of trying to make a new melody from an old one
I would have loved to see attempt Waves by Freddie Joachim!
Oh shit! You did the one I requested. Thanks!
Unreal how you got that. Would you agree Little Brother is the Holy Grail of beats to breakdown?
Damn bro you really flexed to get us this break down😂
Please do Heat by 50 Cent (prod. by Dr. Dre). So cool with the gunshot sound being a central part of the beat and drums
What happened to you Sandurz? Where you been man?
Did you add a swing to it?
so good man
Yo, man I love watching your videos, man they're great! I love learning about how producers get to make their songs. Could you do a beat by DOOM or Madlib (Or Madvillain)? That'd be dope!

Do "La Di Da Di" by Slick Rick & Doug E. Fresh 😜
Please do something from the Cold Vein by Cannibal Ox!!!
do So Fresh, So Clean x Outkast
Can you do All of the lights by Ye or Momma like the other guy suggested?
This beat sounds very familiar and similar to Gang Starr's "itz a setup"
this is dope

Sandurz bro u gotta do some Pete rock
Do madvillian accordion
Maybe DJ Primer got one of his buddy's or Mos Defs buddy's for the, "What are we talking about here?" part. :/
Please do Momma by Kendrick!
Do Fade Away by Logic
Great breakdown but this is a weird beat, it sounds so out of time
I was thinking the sane thing, sonething is off, but still freat breakdown of all the beats that went into it.
do brooklyn girls by charles hamilton
you rock!
Angela Davis and Art SeignerAngela Davis Interviewed by Art Seigner thats where the what are we talking about here sample is from
am i too dumb for this beat? it sounds so off to me
Mansch I don't blame you one bit it's pretty fucking out there. Premiere did exactly what he wanted lol.
way off can't believe he thought he'd finished
That was the point premier is different and that's part of his greatness 1989 to infinity
