  • Why protrusion and counter bore depth are critical measurements and how to do them.
    These 2 measurements are critical for ensuring proper cylinder head to block seal, sealing the water jacket and ensuring the straightness of the sleeve limiting negative wear effect on piston, rings and sleeve itself.

    That was awesome. Always looking for solid instruction videos. Gives my students something to watch than just listening to my voice. Great work.

      Glad to help! I feel the same way, I will show my students videos like Shake Hands with Danger so they don't have to listen to me drone on about safety. or Modern Marvels episode about Diesels so they understand the history and importance of them.

    WHAT GAUGE KIT ARE YOU USING? NOT THE SLED, THE ONE WITH THE EXTENTIONS. where did you find it?

      We buy them at the harbor freight or off Amazon. Since we have students that like to break tools we use the cheap ones. This link will show you the tools on Amazon.

    My mouth worked faster than my brain when I explained the depth micrometer measurement. What we were looking was 4.753 if I remember correctly.

    Any chance you would let me borrow those liner clamps to check protrusion on a Cummins ISL9?

    Thanks for the video. Could you give advice on the best procedure on removing factory sleeves from a 60 series? Is there special tooling for the removal and install of the sleeves?

    • @charleysgarage
      @charleysgarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      I will do that as soon as I have access to a series 60. The closest I have is an early model DD. There is a special tool they make for seating the sleeves on that but pulling the sleeves is pretty standard
