  • Steve and Phil work at the last video store in Long Beach California. This is a short documentary about what it is like to be there, and to be them.

Cool. Miss them so much. I predict that video rental stores will have a revival era for the feelings and emotions they bring.

I've missed my local video store everyday since it closed in 2009.
Huge piece of my childhood, gone.
I really hope video stores / VHS makes a comeback like record stores / vinyl did.

Yuk! I'd much rather have the old school video stores. Blockbuster never carried the good horror films I wanted. Just mainstream crap

There are so many competing streaming services now that it's MORE expensive to pay for all streaming services compared to just renting a physical movie.
    We've come full circle now.

Exactly. Plus they raised prices AND added ads during the movies/TV Shows.

When Blockbuster and Family Video closed, I bought sooooo many $3 movies over the course of those ten years that I can't imagine watching all of them. I'd also bought lots of $1.99 pre-owned movies from Blockbuster when they first started selling those in the early 00s, so between that and my local used music & movie store, I say with absolute certainty that I'll never run out of movies and TV shows to watch on DVD. I mean, I would if I didn't ever leave my house, sleep, or eat, but since I do all of those things, travel a lot for work, and have a pretty active social life, it's highly improbable.

By the time 6G cellular/internet rolls out. Downloading a 4k Blu-Ray is literally instant. Less than 30-40 seconds. They could just put cardboard on the shelves, with descriptions. Bring it to the front desk. Then, get your download in 30 seconds on USB drive/SD card.

If a video store had an option to sign up for some sort of membership when you can rent and watch a rented movie in a backroom with a limit or schedule I think people would do it because they want to find a place for that. Often in your house doesnt have a place for that maybe a few people but not everyone.

I’m sad that Netflix is discontinuing its DVD-by-mail service after all these years. I live in a rural area where streaming isn’t practical, so I hope I can find a new service to rent or borrow discs.

I just go to my public library. It's just like a video store but only you get to get the movies for free and open to 20 at a time for 2 weeks. Just watch out for redbox titles. They sometimes suck.

Its funny how people don't reallize or maybe even care that big libraries have alot of films to rent also, but I'm still for regular Video stores to come back, the problem is the lack of nostalgia plenty have, I think, a title like More than streaming is good, meaning more titles, along with ones streaming don"t have.

yeah, it's actually a pretty good movie, I didn't know about it prior to making the movie and not sure if you picked up on it, but I think Steve was trying to pander to us a little by diminishing how much he liked it, but this video store was right in the heart of the Gayborhood and afterwards steve revealed that he loves the movie.
