I currently work at an environmental center and we have an Eastern Fox Snake, who was sadly wild caught, and she is just such an amazing snake! She is so nice and only musked on one person (he squeezed her too hard even though I said no squeezing...), but honestly served him right haha. The kids have named her Slither, and I've been thinking of getting my own fox snake at some point. Great to know theres breeders out there.
I’m from Illinois and just looked up videos on these handsome snakes, because I just rescued a hatchling from being killed by my outdoor cat. It did have a puncture wound from the cat’s claws, but he was completely fine other than some minor bleeding. Couldn’t have been more than a week or two old though. It was very docile and didn’t mind me holding him at all. I would’ve kept him, because I used to own a corn snake, but I have indoor cats now that would take exception to such a thing. I ended up putting it in a container that I had placed some warmed up rice in with a slightly damp rag on top, so that it could warm up as I transported it. Ended up moving it to a wooded area near a stream, because it near an open field where farm equipment was running. Gave it some water, which it drank, left it some very small cubes of uncooked meat that I’d had and let it go. It ended up burrowing under some leaves. Hope I did the right thing and he ends up surviving. I think he will. One of the most beautiful snakes, if not the most beautiful snake, I’ve seen in Illinois. I love their checkered underside. Not very common sight in the part of Illinois I live either. I’d only ever seen one other one here before when I was a kid, and that was a fully grown adult that I think my dad ended up relocating.
I adore this channel and you, Emily! Your passion for animals is shown in every video, it's beautiful to watch! Your videos are high quality (as in the videos as well as the content in them), and your voice is very pleasant to listen to and gives me a calming effect. You are also beautiful inside and out, which is hard to come by these days, girl! I struggle with depression, anxiety, and addiction ("father" is an alcoholic, didn't realize I could be as well until I turned 19), but your passion is so strong that it has rubbed off on me, making me want to be a better, happier person for my two dogs and two cats, and for my future snakes. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. Thank you for your strength and passion, and thank you for giving me hope, I never knew what that felt like until now❤ I hope you know how inspiring you are in our (the viewers) eyes. I wish nothing but positivity onto you, your husband, and your reptilian family (and Cheyenne of course!)❤
Hey my fox snake babies hatched !!!! Thank you for all your snake videos and egg incubation videos !!! helped a lot . I just built a cooler incubator with water inside and a fish tank heater. I set the bin barely in the water with the vermiculite and alakazam all 15 hatched :)
I just found one today in northern Illinois. About a 32 incher. Super docile, picked it up, checked it out and off it went. Yep, gave me the tail rattle, but not aggressive at all. Thanks for the information.
I saw one near Iowa City yesterday and got a lovely photo. It was very calm and just watched me! It was about 3-4 feet long. I wonder how old it was. Thanks for the info!
Hey im seriously looking into getting a eastern fox snake. I cant find any care or setup videos. Do you know where i can get this information? Like temps, humididty and eating schedules? Thank you
We discovered one outside of a bedroom window at camp yesterday, living in an old woodpile next to the front door. It’s beautiful!! And seemed as curious about us as we were of it. Cool. We live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
I would love to see an update from this video on the fox snakes. And how amazing it is you were so professional right from the start with the snake discovery shirt.
I caught three of them under a old pool deck my company was removing the other day and it was my first time actually handling them but I loved every second of it I think they’re beautiful and they calmed down real fast and then were content to just wrap around my hand awesome animals
I just found a tiny baby Eastern Fox Snake, I decided I wanted to keep it. I'm experienced in keeping red tail boas and ball pythons, but not experienced with keeping eastern fox snakes.... I'm trying to find out what I should feed it. Its very small and looks too small for a pinky mouse. I read that they eat insects. I'm curious to what kind of insects they eat? If you could help with that, I'd apprciate it. Thanks
Okay, now I'm totally confused. I recently rescued a baby Sonoran gopher snake that my students found in a bad situation, but I'm wondering if it isn't a fox snake? Or possibly a bull snake? Can you go over the difference between these similar species? Actually, I'm pretty sure it's a go gopher snake but suddenly not a hundred percent sure.
Wow! You are a wonderful speaker! I loved watching your video! I was trying to tell someone about fox snakes and I am so glad I found your video because it is really so informative! Great Job!
I cannot understand for the life of me how anybody can be afraid of these beauties. Snakes are some of the most beautiful creatures ever produced on earth. Same with spiders. Such beauty.
I know this comment is older but check out NKFherping, Dāv Kauffman, Viperkeeper, Clints reptiles, Olympus Reptiles, Loub747, Smetlogik, all great herping youtubers, but to each their own!
what I found with my 4-foot long fox snake is used an old birds nest to heat up the mice or a small chicken thawed put it in the nest and heat it up in the sun for 30 mins in summer then put the nest in the tank and the fox snake will eat works like a charm
Hi. My name is Mike Fitzgerald and I've been an amateur Herpetologist for 44 years. I live in Michigan and I saw my first Eastern Fox in the wild last week. I just got back from hunting for Western Foxes in Wisconsin and was unsuccessful. I would like to start a breeding program with Eastern Foxes and any information you could provide would be greatly appreciated. I'm also interested in acquiring a Western Fox to include in my lectures. Thank you.
thank you I have a fox snake someone let loose and wound up on my neighbor's porch I got it and took it home it is in a large tank and it's about three feet long I am feeding it frozen mice and you're right the color defense make it look like a copper head but its not and the snake loves to be out of the tank how can I find out what sex it is ?
I’ve got a fox snake named foxy he was badly injured someone was going to kill him but I stepped in and took him to the vet, vet said he was too badly injured that he couldn’t be released so we (my family and I but mostly me) kept him and he’s my cuddle monster, he’s always up for food or a cuddle or swimming! He gets mad when I say no to food because I feed him on Wednesday. They all have different personality’s that’s for sure.
You sir, are a hero. I hate hearing about people killing snakes. Even venomous snakes are saving those people from being over run with rodents. (A true problem)
I know these were small etc. but I still cannot get used to how calm you take those hisses and strikes ! That is a LOAD of experience I would say. I would get all shaky! And the rat snakes seem to be of a similar pattern to taeniura frisey (like mine - feel free to check my video). Emily, can you tell me some REAL information about this species? I get so many informatio that exclude one another.
I just had one of these outside my house. I'm super scared of snakes and I was gonna kill it but I decided to let it go away. Do you think there is any risk of them getting indoors? I live near the woods. I just don't want to have a den in or around my house. I'm glad to hear they are harmless. We live in Rochester, MN. Thanks.
They can get in your house just like any other snake......maybe more so because these guys aren't as scared of people as garter snakes. That is why they are usually a lot more docile. It takes a lot to get them worked up usually and anyone with a little experience could remove them for you if needed. They are slow and just take their time usually.

She was 5.5-6 feet long and I will say she was a bit defensive but I had to move her and get her out of their yard cause they have dogs and the neighbor wanted it dead (mistaken Identity is why) I told her ill get rid of it and if it returns to just call me and don't kill it please. Overall it did strike once or twice cause it was sort of cornered but once I had it under control and I had it in my hands and going away she calmed down, she still tried constricting my arm tho and it was kinda cute
I SAW A CLUTCH OF WILD FOX SNAKES IN THE WOODS!! I've been trying to figure out what species they were cause they were grey and I'm like what species is this and for a bit I thought it might have been a group of rattlesnakes since I live in michigan I thought it was a clutch of massasuaga rattlers which some folks consider good luck to see a baby massasuaga
Hey I know this is an old comment, but you can tell by a few things: 1. Rattlesnakes have a soft triangular shape to their head and a dramatic curve to their nose. The ones she's keeping are Western Fox Snakes. Eastern Fox Snakes are the ones that have most of their territory in Canada and are considered endangered.
So sorry I accidently fat fingered the thumbs down but I fixed it. 😁 Rewatched this older video because I needed to label my fox snake and couldn't remember which kind you all produce.
Selrisitai - that’s not what she meant. I disagree that they don't make good pets, but you should definitely monitor and make sure you do all the research with your child for sure. Make sure you're both educated on proper feeding habits, size for enclosures, heating for enclosures, cool spots, hides, snake mites, etc. I think Ball Pythons make pretty great pets for anyone, or corn snakes. Personally my nephew got a boa constrictor at 9 years old, but I wouldn't recommend that for most kids, as they get pretty freaking huge. Just make sure you teach your kid how to handle them gently and monitor them and definitely do the research, and if you can't get a nice setup for them just wait to buy them til you can.
Kristy Holt-Brightbill they are usually pick you but they do I’ll have their different personalities of coarse and yes they are very good first snakes I’m quite sure how much they cost because I haven’t found a breeder but my fox snake was wild caught but he was so injured he couldn’t be released so we ended up keeping him.
They are a good first snake as easy to care for as a corn snake but much more expensive since they are not as common in the pet trade. A established 5-6 month old common corn snake is anywhere from 25 to 50 dollars where an established fox snake is usually 75 to 125 dollars. Usually they are mouse eating machines just like corn snakes but will sometimes go off feed for a while in the winter and late spring. This is due to them still having their biological clocks tied to the natural process of brumation and mating season. They have awesome personalities and are super active (also escape artists). Got to keep them in a secured enclosure.
Omg!! I saw one of these at 1 of my fishing spots that was literally at least 6 1/2 - 7ft long!! Now i wiah i wouldve caught it. I dodnt know what it was so i just used my fisbing rod to kind of scoot it away from me. It came back 3 times. It kept going straight to my minnow bucket. Lol luckly i got picture and a video.
www.cricketfiddle.com/foxsnake.htm Check this guy out. She referred me to him, actually, and his babies are almost ready. I am also getting 2 from him!
That was the cutest strike! Sounded kind of like a sneeze
Never heard of a Fox snake, let alone how docile they are and how much of good eaters they are. Now I want one, dammed. LOL
ExoticPetsLV JUST put an ad up for them today.

I have one and I love her.
Could we get an update video on the especially dark baby? I'm curious how she turned out.

also curious!

Found one of these in my garden last week. The cutest snake I've ever seen. They are super docile and sweet animals.

Do you still breed them by chance?
I just found one today in northern Illinois. About a 32 incher. Super docile, picked it up, checked it out and off it went. Yep, gave me the tail rattle, but not aggressive at all. Thanks for the information.
I love them! They look so beautiful, they're heads look like they are made of gold. Thank you for the educational video.
they are so fascinating

Love your videos! Keeping reptiles is so different in USA from here in UK.
Same color n pattern as my western hog nose lol
Fox snakes are beautiful! I love the baby snake strike - so stinkin' cute!

What was it? :D
Yes , what was it?
What was it?!?
I would LOVE one of your fox snakes!!!!!
Wow! You are a wonderful speaker! I loved watching your video! I was trying to tell someone about fox snakes and I am so glad I found your video because it is really so informative! Great Job!
"The younger one is still more on the Grayscale coloration" Nice pun there, Snake Discovery! XD
Here because I saw your fox snake hatching video notification and I had literally never heard of fox snakes until 5 minutes ago.
I cannot understand for the life of me how anybody can be afraid of these beauties. Snakes are some of the most beautiful creatures ever produced on earth. Same with spiders. Such beauty.
Being afraid of snakes is natural. It is a primal fear.
What tubs are you using for your racks? They look wider than the 41 quarts I have, I like them!
Both are Sterilite tubs, the larger are 60 quart with the wheels removed and the smaller are 28 quart.
Baby snakes are so cute
which one bit your thumb?! ;)
I think it was an iguana.
I've struggled to find another person on here I like as much as you guys the others don't seek anywhere near as interesting as you

Do some species of snakes have one clutch a year, or 2 or more, or maybe once every other year?
When I think of fox's I don't think brown, I think of red
thank you I have a fox snake someone let loose and wound up on my neighbor's porch I got it and took it home it is in a large tank and it's about three feet long I am feeding it frozen mice and you're right the color defense make it look like a copper head but its not and the snake loves to be out of the tank how can I find out what sex it is ?
I've been looking for fox snakes for a VERY long time. How can I contact you so I can possibly buy a pair please
are fox snakes c=good starter snakes?
Do they have a hypo variety
They live in my state. Pretty cool! :D

I'm curious about that wound on the wild caught adult female.
Hadn't realized just how close their shape and pattern are to bullsnakes.
You are hilarious! Love it
It’s easy for me to remember that name because my little brother is named
Do you know anyone breeding easterns?
Wait they make good pet snakes!? Ok I found one but like should I keep it? It was like born only a few days ago btw so it isn’t very old
We have these naturally in my state. We call them bull snakes and they are very aggressive, far from dosile
That is a different species
Or different type of snake
Yes bull snakes are very sassy and adorable
Should I start off with a fox snack if not why and what should I get
Know where to find an eastern fox snake breeder?
Love snake
How did this snake turn out?
I just had one of these outside my house. I'm super scared of snakes and I was gonna kill it but I decided to let it go away. Do you think there is any risk of them getting indoors? I live near the woods. I just don't want to have a den in or around my house. I'm glad to hear they are harmless. We live in Rochester, MN. Thanks.
Nope they’ll leave you alone as long as you leave them alone usually

Not trying to be rude I don't know much about the subject but: is knowing the lineage less important in reptiles than in dogs or other animals?
Because in the majority of the videos I've seen the most lineage you have on a snake is that one hybrid Gardner snake clutch you bred you knew their grandpa and grandma I'm.also curious on the breeding of Craigslist reptiles that you mentioned
Because as a person who's studied professional ethical dog breeding
I like to see many many generations of lineage and non mystery breeding or animals
Of questionable heritage
Again not trying to be rude I like and respect you but I'm super curious about breedings practices in dogs vs reptiles and some of this is a little odd to my ears so I hope you can calm my fears
It's indeed less important. In the wild siblings might breed each other because they don't travel as much.
I just found one yesterday at my neighbors, she's an older lady who asked me to please get it out of her yard cause she thought it was a massasauga rattlesnake (I live in Michigan) I could tell straight away from the size alone it couldnt be a rattler cause it was just to big. She was 5.5-6 feet long and I will say she was a bit defensive but I had to move her and get her out of their yard cause they have dogs and the neighbor wanted it dead (mistaken Identity is why) I told her ill get rid of it and if it returns to just call me and don't kill it please. Whoot whooot St Cloud!!
Do you know of any other fox snake breeders?
how do you identify a rattlesnake from the fox snake just curious I live in Texas and we have a lot of snakes
Hey I know this is an old comment, but you can tell by a few things:
1. Rattlesnakes have a soft triangular shape to their head and a dramatic curve to their nose. Fox Snakes have a more rounded head that is about the same width as their body and a soft curve to their nose.
2. Rattlesnakes head color is pretty consistent with it's body. A Fox Snake has a much more golden/brown/orange-ish head which is pretty different from it's body.
3. Rattlesnakes have a ridged segmented tail made of keratin. Fox Snakes have a totally normal tail and merely mimic rattling by hitting it against stuff like leaves.
4. Rattlesnakes have pits below their eyes. Fox Snakes do not.
Hope this helps for anyone who finds a Western *or* Eastern, since I'm pretty sure Easterns are protected or endangered.
I don’t know if it’s the same species but fox snakes are endangered (either critically or something I don’t know) in Canada
The ones she's keeping are Western Fox Snakes. Eastern Fox Snakes are the ones that have most of their territory in Canada and are considered endangered.
I hate all the people asking "Can u giv me free snak plz I wont one plz" or some crap XD
Her thumb has a band-aid....
I have one that also has that Mickey mouse sign.
Is one of the names vulpix
Do you breed fox snakes to sell? And if so, is there a way for a subscriber to buy one?
KarenTheKunoichiMC I just emailed them about that. My best friend wants on because of my fox snake.
Will u put a corn snake on your website I would like to buy it
I’m in the st.cloud area!!!
thats an weird fox you have there
i almost said hognose too
awesome video but foxes are orange not brown lol
So sorry I accidently fat fingered the thumbs down but I fixed it. 😁 Rewatched this older video because I needed to label my fox snake and couldn't remember which kind you all produce.
100th comment 😎
Um....... can I have one of your for sell snakes because I love snakes and the type of snake I want is a corn snake please
hi i,m now to youtoub I am fome🇦🇱
My understanding is that obtained traits (muscles, knowledge, immunities) cannot be transmitted genetically.
Selrisitai - that’s not what she meant. If the snake is immune to certain diseases but has been exposed to them, if released into the wild, can transmit those diseases to the wild population bc she carries them unaffected. That could kill off snakes that don’t have an immunity, which wouldn’t be super great.
@@anthropology.studies8816 Ah, and then you'd be left with only snakes who already have the immunity, right?
@@Selrisitai Or very few wild snakes at all.
do you no a good snake for a 9 year old?
Carrie Baehr snakes do not make good pets for children IMO
Corn snakes or western fox snakes are great beginner snakes and a 9 year old should be able to help care for one with little assistance.
But fox are red-orange in color
At 2:26 a pattern looks like mickey mouse
Lol always one
a hog nose i think i won't
Can I have a baby ball python
I don't got no snakes
Are Fox snakes hard to keep? Picky at all? What do they usually cost? Are they a good first time snake?
Kristy Holt-Brightbill they are usually pick you but they do I’ll have their different personalities of coarse and yes they are very good first snakes I’m quite sure how much they cost because I haven’t found a breeder but my fox snake was wild caught but he was so injured he couldn’t be released so we ended up keeping him.
