Throughout that game, the guard team purchased 8 manticores. Sparky purchased 7 of those 8 manticores, and lost 4 of them. Somehow he managed to keep the final 3 alive for somewhere in the real of 10-15 minutes without any guardsmen to repair, or any other units at all actually. I think Sparky is my hero now, a true inquisitor, dedicated to exterminatus whether they do it from orbit or from the ground.

He kept them alive because chaos stopped trying to kill them. If they had gone south and to the enemy base, it would have been easy for the Plague Marines, supported by Khorne worship, to chase, catch, and kill those manticores. The CSM failed to prioritize them.
@@Bertoleyus Exactly! It was nowhere near Sparky being good with Manticores: he tried to face-tank Plague Marines with his 3 Manticores instead of driving them deeper into base. It was Chaos players being bad with answer to Manticores and allowing IG to start spamming Manticores after wiping their armies in t1. Single Bloodcrusher would take down 2 of Mantis before Inquisitor would get her AV pistol or Ogryns would come out. In t3 1 Chaos Predator tank would hunt down all of manticores and put pressure on IG tanks even without Mark of Tzeench or Khorne (but even more with them). Blobbing your tough but slow infantry against artillery spam was bad idea. Also I know this was played when IG was clearly OP (especially in 3v3) against one of if not the weakest factions but player choices were detrimental here.
honestly, this is the map where Manticores bulldoze the closeness of the bases giving them a a nice defensive position not to mention the upper parts of the map are hard to cross without getting bogged down.
As Indrid is always saying, this is a bad map for tanks. They get stuck on the pathing. Combine that with with the manti spam, inferno inq and emperors judgement LC, and they'd die quickly and achieve little, just like the Phobos did. I'd have got a GUO to soak up damage while relying on infantry for AV. And autocannon Termis after that.
@Mankindatwar The guard had no antivehicle or anti melee in the midgame, couldve dropped and Chaos dreadnaughts or got bloodletters. Quite literally, the only t2 unit they pulled out where plague marines so while they were fighting 3v2(cause sparky wasnt really contributing) they shouldve committed hard into t2 and pulled more units cause IG only pulled stormtroopers and manticores. SuperPanda teched T3 but didnt build any T3 units, he could have used the resources instead to pull more T2 units. This entire game was silly, chaos had the game in the bag when sparky started nonstop building manticores, a single dreadnaught would've allowed Chaos to powerbash while IG were rushing for t3. They had raptors to counter lascannons and honestly not much Ig couldve dont to stop them as they didnt even field catachans. What chaos did this game was dig themselves into a large hole as they kept building plaguemarines which is an over commitment of resources to kill a manticore and a bad counter(alone) to a stormlord. They had time to save resources to build a lascannon predator but they just squandared it because they realized they got greedy skipping T2 and they panic built plague marines.
As an Imperial Guard player who loves laying artillery barrages on the enemy I cringed at the recklessness with which Sparky was handling his Manticores.
Raptors did fine. In T2 they were repeatedly shutting down full upgraded guardsmen with no upgrades themselves. That's very cost effective. Meltas are a meme tho.
Still an overall waste of resources getting mark of tznch vs factions like Imperial Guard *UNTIL* you see ogryns or Kaskh. (T3). You're not getting bonus damage vs regular infantry armour so whilst its a DPS increase its not as insanely good as vs a tactical marine. Better off getting another unit or hero upgrades.

Good game, CSM took too long to bring anti vehicle, a surprising choice against guard. Sparkky was painful to watch, they lose more units than anyone else in the match and spammed manticores the whole match, not a fun watch.
I am a bit torn, whether our galactic hero Yang Wen-Li is on the correct side of the conflict. Very juicy match, trully a Guard vs Chaos one, ty for casting.
Man every imperial guard game i see against chaos is just rush tier 3 to get a stormlord. Its like an i win button. And i will say it again the land raider phobos's targeting is iffy those lascannons shoot whatever they want.
I mean... All they did against it was continuously run 2 units of plague marines right in front of it (and 2 fully upgraded units of guardsmen and the heroes and a Leman Russ) over and over. None of the chaos pushed together for 20 mins straight. They could have gone for Dreads, Tzeench tanks, more lascannons, anything really. Don't judge balance from this game. Sparky was throwing away units left and right and 90% of their Manticore shots were on empty ground. The chaos players ran 2 units at most into a massive wall of fire, drip feeding resources to the guard with entirely wrong unit choices. Also if enemy team have enough resources for 3 super units and you have none, that's not the super units being OP, it's indicative that that team is massively ahead already. This was a fun silly low level game.
Need more anti vehicle. It may need a nerf, but throwing infantry at it isn't wise. Tanks can overwhelm it but a lasgun support counters a single tank but that's a large investment together. Frankly the Grey Knight Razorback is much more effective against anti armor infantry relatively as a tier 2 unit. Drop smoke and you can tank a melta squad relatively well and any support can tie them up.

Some players just love to autobuy it regardless of the enemy faction and build. Like digging your own grave it's a resource sink vs IG
