I think for me Insomniac nailed the swinging when they added the swing assist feature. Putting that down to zero really gave the best of both the first game and the old Spider-Man 2. It feels realistic and challenging while also looking good. I went the whole game using it and I still make slight errors with it light getting too greedy and swinging too late and hitting the ground or I end up swinging into a building, slowing me down.

I wouldn't say no to a touched up remake of all three Raimi tie-in games. A uniform, but not necessarily "realistic" art style; the simpler polygonal counts on models, but with better facial animation; the swinging from 2 in all three; the gangs from 3: some of the insane difficulty spikes (especially from 1: stupid chases and Super Mech) maybe buffered slightly, providing a better balance between "fun" and "challenge". While 3 was pretty rough, it had solid elements, like swapping suits in the Wii version. And, being able to stop civilians from doing dangerous/petty things. People driving angry again, or fighting, or whatever.
When I was gifted this game by my grandparents for my 10th birthday, it felt as though Prometheus gave me fire. I was so amazed that I made the mistake of being moth to the flamed into playing it after coming home from school one day, ditching my homework to do so and got in trouble for it. It was that compelling. Being able to just soar across the city via web swinging or pretend to Hulk across rooftops from charged jumps alone were the best forms of freedom I could get back then. The missions made me feel like I was properly being Spider-Man, as opposed to what was going on in the first game, fighting Rhino for the first time was worrying for me. I remember having to hide on the rooftops and try to figure out how to beat him (just suck it up and dodge him, you pansy!) and exploring the city was an adventure in and of itself! Black Cat was a drop dead stunner and her missions made me feel confident just off having an ally that wouldn't die, alone! You didn't talk about postgame features but there really is some fun to be had afterwards. Even if the "Collect 50,000 points" mission is somewhat pointless, it is nice to just spend more time in this world, earn all upgrades, challenge oneself with the pizza missions and the unlockable fight arena is a blast, too! Regarding the Web-swinging of Insomniac's SM2, am I the only who thinks that sometimes the physics of the games just suddenly and randomly slows you down. An example is when youre using the wind tunnels. When your going at a crazy fast speed and enter the wind tunnels, you'll slow down or sometimes when you do point launches, you also suddenly lost momentum. I think that the game is also favors in giving you upward momentum compared to giving you forward momentum. Even when doing a dive bomb, the physics is more willing to give you more upward momentum compared to forward momentum
Occasionally but I’m pretty sure the point launches is if you miss the perfect point launch when going at REALLY high or relatively high speed If it’s not a perfect point launch you’ll lose some speed

Still not exactly the same since with the 2004 game you could sling shot your self and do other tricks because of how good the physics was. Although the new game with swing assist set to 0 is not bad. At first I was smashing myself into the pavement because its harder to get off the ground.
It's not a matter of turning off swing assist. The swinging gets boring in SM2 2023. Especially since the swing button is the same button as running on a while. Doesn't take as much skill
Unpopular opinion, but I still say Spider man 3 for next gen had the best web swinging. It had the perfect balance of being physics based requiring plenty of skill and cinematic enough to where you can enjoy it and flow beautifully with style through the city without inevitably slamming into a wall every few seconds. Plus I love the fluid animations and how acrobat tricks this time around can be used to manipulate how much momentum you have while web swinging, swinging off traffic lights, flying in the air or jumping off walls. Of course the tutorial in game doesn't tell you how to pull off these tricks and tips or how to use these things to your advantage. This stuff is all learned through hours of gameplay. Unfortunately Sm3's swinging goes easily overlooked since most people who play it, tend to just do whatever to beat the game and be done with it entirely.
i think one of the more under discussed problems with SM2 PS2's swinging is when you finally get all the speed upgrades; it becomes WAY too easier to build speed you can infinitely spam L2 pretty much to get this arbitrary sudden burst of speed so that any mistakes the player makes can be mostly negated by just spamming it for a few speeds and go to 200mph near instantly SM2 PS5 does this a lot better because it's a lot harder to cheese the game like that and you have to earn your speed a lot more. yes SM2 PS2 has the more difficult hardcore swinging physics (i've put hundreds of hours in both of these games at this point) but what SM2 PS5 does better is encourage the player to build your swinging speed to a fine cadence through multiple ways: dive bombing, loop de loops, the jump and dash skills (i'm aware they're also sudden speed boosts like in SM2 PS2 but they're much harder to spam and they're on way longer cooldowns), point launching, slingshots, corner tethers, etc. in SM2 PS2 the only *real* way to get speed is through the boost mechanic and that's pretty much it. SM2 PS5 is a clear evolution over that and it's why I prefer it overall also the web zip in SM2 PS2 sucks ass in comparison when it stops your momentum for no reason
Masterful work on the title of the video. You both get clicks from people wanting to figure out what you mean and an active comment section full of idiots arguing whether the "old" (no one tell them about Enter Electro) Spider-man 2 and Insomniac's Spider-man 2 is superior.
Loved this Game. Had It on the Xbox Original. I remember seeing the first few Images of It In a Gaming Magazine and being amazed We could finally go down In the Streets! Got this Game when It came out and had a blast all the way through. Loved this and the 2002 Movie Game. A shame the Spider-Man 3 Game was such a disastrous, disappointing, dumpsterfire of a Game.
The game Is mid honestly,i understand i you like it but there are a Lot of things like plot holes or design choices that dont make any sense at all,and the combat just added More tools but not More problems to use againts those tools
@@Itsme-wp8yc I can see why you dislike it, but the story isn’t terrible. It was a bunch of great ideas with some having weird executions. But it’s not a bad story. It’s decent at the very least.
@Itsme-wp8yc it's fair to say that you have no idea how Spider-Man stories are told, This is pretty common in people who simply watch "Spider-Man Video essays" who complain about Spider-Man stories and yet have no idea who the character really is. Not liking the game for the lack of features and bugs is fine and acceptable but outright saying the story was bad is completely stupid. Was it better then SM1? No. Was it a bad story? Hell no
4:50 Ok what ? Leaning AWAY from Raggdoll physics is more sophisticated? Isn’t it the exact opposite !? Raggdoll physics IS THE BEST When done Right like in This Game your reviewing and Halo2
I don't always agree with Aqua, but this is one of the times i disagree with him on a spiderman game. I personally always preferred USM and the first movie game to SM2, including the swinging, especially with USM. SM2 just doesn't feel as good as i feel like everyone says. Combat doesn't feel great, swinging is too loose, wall crawling is a nightmare, but it did change the way people saw and made Spider-Man games and i will always and forever be grateful for that
I’m not sure why ppl would say it inspired Arkham , Ik spider-man 3 was originally more like Arkham but they lost the guy that was doing the combat system so it was scrapped.
Spider-Man 3 also literally has a mechanic that's a precursor to detective mode. USM is what I'd call an Arkham precursor because moving your analog stick to an enemy during combat will have Spidey automatically zip to that enemy
I have to be honest, I prefer the combat and swinging of not only this game, but other Spider-Man titles over the Insomniac games. I just love the momentum and speed of web swinging and slamming thugs back-and-forth like a ragdoll, or jackhammer kicking them in the air. Also, nice to see Ultimate Spider-Man getting some love! P.S. I would love it if we saw a live-action Rhino that used this game's design as a basis.
Almost every Spider-Man game can be considered good except SM3, Edge of Time and TASM 1/2. Neversoft PS1 Spider-Man games, SM1 Treyarch, SM2, Ultimate, Web of Shadows, Shattered Dimensions, even TASM 1 was somewhat okay.
@@T02F20 I played it on the 3DS, it had a good story but it was 4 hours long, very repetitive and quite annoying by the end. It would’ve been better as a movie.
@@T02F20 I think that the game is a better experience watched online as a game movie with all cutscenes because the combat is a bit tedious. I actually quite liked The Amazing Spider-Man 2 at the time, even though it was quite mediocre. It had fun swinging and combat, decent suits and decent stealth missions.
The two combat systems are fundamentally different. Arkham Rewards rhythm and strategically hitting certain enemies. Spider-Man offers more room for individual expression in what moves you use and how
Spider-Man 2, Ultimate and Web of Shadows have the best swinging imo. Marvel's Spider-Man 1 & 2 was fun at the beginning but got boring pretty fast. Swinging doesn't feel rewarding anymore in modern Spider-Man's.
I have no problem with the The Raimi spider man 2 i just find it annoying how its fans will always try to invalidate everything the new games do for the SWINGING it shows a lack of critical thinking and just Or even basic empathy Yes congratulations you have more skill based swinging in your game we have better combat. Voice acting and Graphics. But then they get offended that anyone dare say their games aren’t the best
Yea, Spider-Man fans aren’t exactly the most mature bunch. Half the problem is that they kind of have a point, the swinging really is quite good in the old SM2, but you’re right, it doesn’t invalidate someone’s preference and just because it takes more skill doesn’t make it inherently better
I prefer the swinging/traversal in this over the Marvel's Spider-Man games, because it's more challenging. The traversal in the newer games LOOKS cool, but it feels much more satisfying to pull stuff off in Spider-Man 2 The Movie Game.
imo it feels ALOT better to play the marvel game tbh not only does it look alot better. swinging is very challenging to make it look good and keep the flow going, where og sm2 is alot more "basic" and less feature rich
@@OhFicial67 its artificial. its still not momentum based, and can be mastered in a day or 2. web wings circumvent any possible challenge, theres no real fall damage, and half of the shit i could do in games from over a decade ago i cant do in the new game
I often find that you can get really close to the ground when you swing in Spider-Man 2. But in Insom’s Spider-Man 2, the amount of times I’ve swung in a similar arc only to have the animation force a character’s limb to hit a van or the road, is SO annoying. And it feels less like my error and more like I’m fighting with the game. Like the animation gives the character a different gravity that I couldn’t properly account for. Still fun but aggravating nonetheless.

You both get clicks from people wanting to figure out what you mean and an active comment section full of idiots arguing whether the "old" (no one tell them about Enter Electro) Spider-man 2 and Insomniac's Spider-man 2 is superior.
My goat ❤
Loved this Game. Had It on the Xbox Original.
I remember seeing the first few Images of It In a Gaming Magazine and being amazed We could finally go down In the Streets! Got this Game when It came out and had a blast all the way through. Loved this and the 2002 Movie Game.
A shame the Spider-Man 3 Game was such a disastrous, disappointing, dumpsterfire of a Game.
Do spidey shattered dimensions next.
If anyone thinks the new Spider-Man 2 is bad is simply blinded by nostalgia, It might have had its fault but it's by no means a bad game
For real 💯
If you don’t care about story telling or Spider-Man as a character then the new game is alright.
Hell no
Just to calm everyone down he's definitely talking about Tasm2 game considering he already mafe an sm2 review recommending the game
Fire video! Still a fire game!
I would love to play this agian..... IF MY DISK STILL WORKED😭
No one is beating ultimate?! Yessir! It’s very underrated. In my opinion it’s the best Spider-man game.
you should talk about shattered dimensions and edge of time they're my favorites and you make the best reviews!
The best Spider-Man game
I have to be honest, I prefer the combat and swinging of not only this game, but other Spider-Man titles over the Insomniac games. I just love the momentum and speed of web swinging and slamming thugs back-and-forth like a ragdoll, or jackhammer kicking them in the air.
Also, nice to see Ultimate Spider-Man getting some love!
P.S. I would love it if we saw a live-action Rhino that used this game's design as a basis.
Especially since the game let's you throw people off buildings without any webbing safety nets
Oh man, the ponies are gonna be upset over that title. They might just start playing golf out of rage.
mannnnnnn there are so many old games I want to play
Bro changed the title let’s go 😂
Can’t wait for dis game to drop again on ps5 hands down best spider man next to it is the Wii Spider-Man😮💨
Almost every Spider-Man game can be considered good except SM3, Edge of Time and TASM 1/2.
Neversoft PS1 Spider-Man games, SM1 Treyarch, SM2, Ultimate, Web of Shadows, Shattered Dimensions, even TASM 1 was somewhat okay.
Edge of time? That game is good
I liked all of them except Edge of Time lol. It felt too repetitive to me. Go from one room beat people up and go into another.
@@T02F20 I played it on the 3DS, it had a good story but it was 4 hours long, very repetitive and quite annoying by the end. It would’ve been better as a movie.
@@brahmanwithin6623 ah honestly I see where you’re coming from. Maybe I’m blinded by nostalgia
Well, gotta dust off the ol’ PS2
You lost me when you said that the combat in SM2 wasn't the inspiration for the combat in the Arkham games. Are you blind?
The two combat systems are fundamentally different. Arkham Rewards rhythm and strategically hitting certain enemies. Spider-Man offers more room for individual expression in what moves you use and how
Spider-Man 2, Ultimate and Web of Shadows have the best swinging imo. Marvel's Spider-Man 1 & 2 was fun at the beginning but got boring pretty fast. Swinging doesn't feel rewarding anymore in modern Spider-Man's.
I have no problem with the The Raimi spider man 2 i just find it annoying how its fans will always try to invalidate everything the new games do for the SWINGING it shows a lack of critical thinking and just Or even basic empathy
Yes congratulations you have more skill based swinging in your game we have better combat.
Well, there technically is ragdoll in the Insomniac games when you die. Lol.
I prefer the swinging/traversal in this over the Marvel's Spider-Man games, because it's more challenging. The traversal in the newer games LOOKS cool, but it feels much more satisfying to pull stuff off in Spider-Man 2 The Movie Game.
imo it feels ALOT better to play the marvel game tbh
not only does it look alot better. swinging is very challenging to make it look good and keep the flow going, where og sm2 is alot more "basic" and less feature rich
Just turn down the assist swinging to 0 and boom it’s more challenging
The skill ceiling for this game was higher as you really had to master web swinging.
@@OhFicial67 its artificial. its still not momentum based, and can be mastered in a day or 2. web wings circumvent any possible challenge, theres no real fall damage, and half of the shit i could do in games from over a decade ago i cant do in the new game
You should look into "Shattered Dimensions"
I often find that you can get really close to the ground when you swing in Spider-Man 2. But in Insom’s Spider-Man 2, the amount of times I’ve swung in a similar arc only to have the animation force a character’s limb to hit a van or the road, is SO annoying. And it feels less like my error and more like I’m fighting with the game. Like the animation gives the character a different gravity that I couldn’t properly account for. Still fun but aggravating nonetheless.
Turn swing assist off
Iv got a feeling he’s got swing assist on
