  • Why did the Romulans choose to clone Picard? How did they know he'd be such a big political player? Clery's got a... theory.

Question? How would the Romulans acquire Picards' DNA? - Capt. Kirk
In TNG show, the Romulans was reported absent from contact over 50 years before reappearing. That would negate the theory it would had been impossible to get his DNA from an unknown federation officer, get an agent over the neutral zone close to steal a hair or fluid sample. Theory great but there's an hole that needs to be explained.

You're right, it's not a "good" film, but after I realized that Picard is stronger and the nemesis, I liked it a little better. I LIKED insurrection tho. But I suppose you might have to value slowing down in life. Wrath of Kahn was a great film because Recardo Montalban chewed, swallowed and exploded the whole universe on screen. Christopher Plummer did a pretty good job in Undiscovered Country, but dang hard to top " from hells heart I stab at thee!"

Dude... I am legitimately impressed with the critical think and deductive reasoning on display here. Also, the impeccable attention to detail is commendable as well.

I had never thought about the timeline, but once you said when Shinzon would have been created, my mind went straight for Tasha...

I had this exact same theory over ten years ago, except for one major change. Sela is his mother! They needed someone to give birth to the clone with human characteristics and what better way to prove her loyalty to the Empire then to participate in this operation.

Insurrection is actually really good. It's basically a 2 part episode. Nemesis was only different writers, a completely different director, and production away from being pretty good too.

Let’s not forget that Yar was wearing her “future” uniform with future tech. Those probably would have highlighted her as special.

This is a good theory. It takes a few leaps of logic to get there. Nice job!

Great theory! If Sela was in the movie it would have been amazing, shoot some Romulans would have been nice too. Maybe Picard will feature Tasha Yar's daughter, it has always done what no Star Trek to do and explore Romulan culture 😉

It totally makes perfect sense. Tasha was always proud to have served under Picard's command and would've shared her experiences and stories with her daughter, Sela. And might've let it slip what Ghanan (sp) had told her about the "alternate timeline" and the Romulans would've done their own research into the time shift anomaly that had occurred in "Yesterday's Enterprise".

This was well thought out. I cannot believe that it may not have one of the original premises for the movie since lost to time and or studio interference. Good work in presenting this premise/theory it does work.

It always felt like Sela was missing from Nemesis. She’d have been easy to insert as Commander Donatra, closing out her otherwise incomplete story. Would have given some weight to a Romulan also with human heritage choosing to aid Earth rather than destroy it.
