- Saturday Night Beech-Nut Show. May 24, 1958. By request, this is a re-post without the low audio and annoying gray bar. One needs to remember that sometimes the audio on these kinescopes was just not up to par. Making it louder can sometimes cause distortion. However I'll re-post all requests.
This is definitely one of the best songs, ever.

One of my favorite songs ever 😍.
I lived down the block from Dion as a child until my early teens. Would see walking by my block all the time.
lucky
I came to say this@@OnelnAKrillion
I wish the world was still this small
I am so grateful that Dion is still with us today. One of the last stars from that generation who is still alive.
No need to apologize for the sound quality. This is fabulous for those of us who grew up 45's played on those little portable record players and AM hit radio. This was also the era of rabbit ears and snowy channels so we are used to it. Built character!
It's a pleasure to see them perform.Back in the days when artists still had talent😊
This is the record (song) that launched the careers of the Bronx's own Dion and The Belmonts on the LAURIE record label. 4 Italian-American guys from around the Belmont/Arthur Ave.(FORDHAM) section of the Bronx, NYC in the spring of 1958, giving us forever two an' half minutes of pure "Do-Wopp" magic-gold!! Carlo's unforgettable bass intro, Angelo's angelic-high falsetto, Dions SUPERB lead and of course Freddy (RIP) tying it all together. Dion and The Belmonts followed in the footsteps of the Great "Do-Wopp" pioneers and what a great and wonderful legacy of music they gave us! Looking at this film footage what Dick Clark gave us is like looking into a mirror of 1950's America...the Eisenhower years. The hair, the suits, the shoes, the teens in the audience, the black and white film footage, all part of that innocent by-gone era. I have always loved this song and ALWAYS will. Thank you Dion and the Belmonts for all the music and the memories and for truly being such a big part of our old Bronx, NYC!...........God Bless you all................
Great comment...you remind again how lucky I was to have lived in this era (and only about 15 miles north of the Bronx)....simply amazing talent.
We were simply born in the wrong generation! Wonderful description of what this song means to you! May this music live on.
I remember Dion and The Belmonts well. Teenage memories from back then..No music today as good as these groups...
People will say that there is good music out there but it just isn't famous. Bullshit, I've heard underground bands from today and they are so boring. None of them can get you on your feet like these guys can.
What harmony.!!!!!....all in step, and all so clean looking.....these guys sure nailed this one.
dion is a legitimate LEGEND! i have seen him in concert a couple of times and he rocked the house!! i will be seeing him again in july of 2022! can't WAIT!! i was 4-years-old in 1958 and i am now 66. he has been around forever. love the harmonies of doo-op! beats the hell out of rap and hip hop garbage.
I always wanted to see Dion. Where are you seeing him in July 22 please ?
these were the best 50's songs ... Dion & Belmonts were great performers
Now THAT is rock & roll! Iconic, timeless and wonderful!!!
Doo-Wop!
Nothing to do with rock n' roll. If you think this is R&R you haven't understood the concept of it...At this time and age authorities in the US did everything they could to erase the black origin of the music (to save the poor innocent white teenagers!) and replaced it with watered down white (often of Italian descent)versions. It was the age of; Bobby's, Donny's and Johnny's and the likes of Pat Boone🤑They put Elvis in the army, Chuck Berry in jail etc. Everything they could to try to keep the citizens were they wanted them....
Never been a big high-tech,internet person but it is great to be able to pull up these great moments of music anytime you want...
Man.......what happened too music.... Groups like this is TRUE AMERICAN music... Today's music is a disgrace and noise... Thanks for sharing... Love this song and the movie Christine I heard it on...
Pure singing! No crap❤❤❤❤
Dion DiMucci...Fred Milano...Carlo Mastrangelo...Angelo D'Aleo-Dion & The Belmonts
Damn they were Italians meatballs
@@leonelsierra1384 ... how does it work ? you can call italians meatballs, and you can't call senegaleses bananas ???
Heavenly talent...voices in all parts - energy no one can equal ...unhortunately...today.
Please bring this kind of music back!
Just brought tears to my eyes....So good!,
Same!
Awesome stage presence, harmonies, and matching outfits! LOVE their white loafers! If Dion had addiction issues, I couldn't see it here. Great work, in spite of lip syncing!
This song always brings tears to my eyes, too 😥. We'll never have music like this again 😍.
Here is one of my favorite artists of all-time singing one of his biggest hit song of all-time. I wish this show was still shown on tv today because it badly missed. Thank god we have TH-cam to watch classic video of great music being performed.
Dion and the belmonts from the Bronx New York on delmont avenue they live that's why they picked the name the belmonts just an amazing group it's a shame they split up if the few years of singing each one went there separate way some of them didn't sing anymore Dion kept singing and he lives in Florida now but it's a shame the way these things going up we could only turn that clock back again start all over again would be wonderful I give this video five stars
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐💯❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
These types of songs later became known as "Doo Wop." We just didn't have a name for it back then other than "Rock 'N Roll."
As I appreciate this beautiful song I try to get in to the mind of the band...and I wonder...did they ever really appreciate how wonderful this song was ....is ....and would be for future generations...music as it should be....
The mission of Carlo Mastrangelo in this worl f9inished in this week......He passed away........God bless you Carlo....Tahnk you so much for all the job you made for usw........R I P.......
An amazing record from Dion and the Belmonts
There will never be music this good anymore.
An absolute Rock N' Roll masterpiece !!! As good as it gets.
This video brought back a memory for me. I was 9 at the time, but my older sister (14) was really into top-40 music and I knew all the songs that she liked. We were at a relative's house for some kind of birthday party when this came on the TV and I somehow remember being mesmerized, watching these guys do their thing. I looked it up, and May 24, 1958 was a Saturday night when the weekend edition of American Bandstand was on. It is fantastic to see it again! I love how Dion blended in with the group during the high falsetto parts, then came back to the forefront for the lead vocal. An all-time great song!
Dion you had it then.....and you have it now...love your blues CD's!
love the dancing... how they come in out of the line
Never tire of songs from this era..!
Great star, great song. You youngsters don't know music
Dion is one of the greatest. Love his voice, his music, and he is handsome.
It sounds great
Back in those days when disc jockeys played Sensible Music I can remember this song I wonder why vividly. As a young kid I was marching in a drum and bugle corps Doing all the drum rudiments and learning to work with good musicians. Any way this song was climbing the charts and man everyone was dancing to this. A part of American Music that was solid and fun loving to listen to and dance to. Everything today is really loud and louder. No more four part harmony just tons of noise.
I would have LOVED to have been in a group like this. They were the BEST! ...Enough said.
great song, love their dance moves!
This song represents the 50's! ^^
In later years, Dion said the very beginning of the song was just a vocal intimation of the horns in a band that they liked..
The vocalization of horns continues throughout the song and is an integral part of the song.
Great stage presentation!
be bop at its best, great harmony and complex synchronized moves, slightly amusing but great finger-snapping tune. a fun song to listen to.
That is soo right.
The best Dion and The Belmonts song should have made number one.
A great song from the fabulous 50,s by the amazing Dion and the Belmonts
Dion and his comrades sure know how to have a good time, they REALLY get into it here! And the way they even look as if they really appreciate each other as the audience cheers them on, getting praise from the MC at the end! They were indeed one of the greatest bands from 1958!
I love how energetic Angelo is
Lip syncing or not, it doesn't get better than this when it comes to harmony. And Dion is just cute as they get in this.
+ProudWayniac My nephew looks exactly like Dion..got the Italian American thing going on..and you're right..I really liked Both these guys and Frankie Valli..My older sister played this stuff all the time..
Don't worry, no lip syncing
Too good to lip sync
@@dbd1353 Frankie ❤️😎
If you were there you can't forget. 72 And still dancing..
Dion and the Belmont's absolutely best band in that era
i agree
Dion has the best voice in that genre.
@@monicabella7894 no doubt
This combines the best of doo wop & rock. Its great!
The ""IFIC" signs were part of a Beechnut gum ad campaign, ...FlavorIFIC!
I was actually wondering what that was and now that you have enlightened us I actually also remember it.
Thank you from Amsterdam.
Big thanks to The Master for the talent remastering of this rare video !
Simply the Best Doo Wop song of all time ! Hands down !
Thanks so much for re-posting this in a better quality! One of my alltime Beechnut favorites, the best of Dion & The Belmonts.
Hope Dick Clark Productions will bring this great clip and the others out on DVD.
I thought all of them were adorable! I never could pick a favorite. They were all so cute.
seywhut2985 DION😍😍😍😍😍
Nasci na década de 70.
A três anos atrás fiz um grande achado, encontrei as músicas 🎶 dos anos 60 internacionais. Amei as músicas.
You gotta love these guys. I mean, look at how cute that smoulder from Dion is! Ultimate cool!
*Does Freddie remind anyone else of Tom Hanks in Apollo 13?
They just don’t make music as good as they used to. This is great and brings back such great memories
I never forgotten this italians, teenagers those yrs, 1955 i was born thats yrs, a pre m...baby w...5/4 onces, also he's a greatest singers, and hes can dances too and the others teenagers, the belmonts, names after a streets signs belmont, av, cities ot.twns, bronx, new, york, city, commentwealth, states, happy birthdays guys, aging 84s yrs, ol next yrs, i will turn 70s yrs, old if i waked up,
doctordoowop,
Dion's chiming Freddies part, not Angelo's. Thats because they're grouped left to right by height, and they adapted the chimes to their physical sizes.
The beginning and ending chimes on the actual record are (in order):
1-Carlo (bass-baritone)
2-Dion (baritone)
3-Freddie (2nd tenor)
4-Angelo (tenor)
Freddie's taller than Dion. To keep in "synch" with the symmetry of the stage appearance, Dion now has to chime Freddie's part, and vice versa.
This is pure gold!!
Carlo Mastrangelo's riffing was very rhythmically driving. It made the tune go over the top! GREAT!
This is Italian soul.....even has the "Wop wop wop " love you brother.
Where do the most great singers come from?
I never saw them dance before. My first love of music was Dion and the Belmonts.
Every American should have a 1950s car with this music coming out of it... Period!
I can't believe my grandma was eight/nine when this was up. She's not even in her seventy's! Man she was right. Time flies.
Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons might have been the Jersey boy's but Dion and The Belmonts were most definitely the Bronx boy"s.
Best song of the '50s...
Lewis Murray 1958 actually...

Would have loved to hear them sing this live, just like Bobby Hatfield singing live on Unchained Melody. What a treat that would have been.
Wonderful music great song from an awesome group
No mob movie would be complete without this track
I'll always wonder what happened to the young lady at 1:10
Carlo Mastrangelo r.i.p. from all the fans here in chesterfield rnr club uk my all time fave doo wop group
I love it good job
Ya gotta hand it to the Italians.
Yeah - I'm half-Italian myself and back when we were kids, we politically incorrectly said that 'Dion really puts the Wop into Doo-Wop ...'
Yeah, we rock.
@@AllBobsAllTheTime Hahahaha that WOP label (With Out Papers) that people put on Italians .. crazy! "Doo-WOP".
@@AllBobsAllTheTime LMAO
