Tammy Wynette is considered one of the most influential & successful artists who helped bring a woman's perspective to the male-dominated country music field. She was married at one time to fellow country music singer George Jones & they had some great duets together. "Stand By Your Man" was a huge hit & is considered her signature song. Some other songs are "Singing My Song", "The Ways To Love A Man", "He Loves Me All the Way", "Run Woman Run", "Good Lovin' (Makes It Right)" "Bedtime Story", "My Man (Understands)", "'Til I Get It Right", "Kids Say the Darndest Things", "Another Lonely Song" etc.

It's funny to see them both so young.
She's one of the original queens of Country Music.
Although she did catch some flack because some took it as her saying to forgive things that shouldn't necessarily be forgiven.
In either case, she has an incredible Country voice.

Great song and love Tammy Wynette. Some I think you need to check out by her is " I don't wanna play house", " Kids say the darnest things", " Your good girls gonna go bad" , "D-I-V-O-R-C-E", Some duets with George Jones for example "Two story house" , "Golden ring", " We're not the jet set" , "We're going to hold on" , " The ceremony"

Tamny released this song in 1968 where it was on the charts for 13 weeks, many of those at Number 1. The Women Libers weren't happy with the meaning of the song, with wanting equal rights etc.
It was rejuvenated in 1970 when it was featured in Jack Nicholson's movie Five Easy Pieces. Beautiful vocals and delivery make this a timeless classic. Great reaction Craig. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

The Women's Movement was about equal rights for women. Up until then the majority of women were not in the workforce. When I grew up in the 50's through the early 70's, I only knew two mothers that worked outside the home. There were very few options for women, all low paying jobs, ie: retail, secretarial positions, etc. The minimum wage in the 70's was about $1.10. Not exactly enough to support a single woman, let alone a divorced woman with children which was extremely uncommon). I only knew one divorced mother during that time and there was a stigma attached to that, as if it was automatically her fault she was divorced. The majority of women had two choices: get married right out of high school and start having babies or go to college to meet an educated man who had the potential to make a better living & provide a nicer lifestyle then get married as soon as you graduate, if not before you graduate.
If it wasn't for the Womens Movement of the 60's, women would all be home raising kids. Not that motherhood (homemaker) isn't an important, admirable and desirable "job" to many women, it is. However, it's not for all women. Because of the Women's Movement, women now have choices. Woman can choose their own path. I remember the days when it was rare for women to aspire to be a doctor or lawyer. And, when women had no choice but to see male doctors for all their "exams" and to deliver all their babies. Now women have a choice to see female doctors. I remember when the most women could aspire to was to be a nurse, paralegal, court stenographer, teacher or librarian. Astronaut, police officer, president? Firm no. The majority of the workforce was closed to women.
The backlash to this song had NOTHING to do with women "libbers" and equal rights. It was about sending a message that women no longer needed to stand by their man through thick and thin. They no longer needed to stand by their man because "after all, he's just a man" as Tammy sings in this song. Women no longer need to overlook, excuse, cover for their bad behavior as if that's an acceptable excuse. The "libbers" were sending a message to all women that they could "stand alone" and make their own way, times had changed.
It's a known fact that Tammy & her husband George Jones, along with other country artists from that time period had very tumultuous relationships that included lots of cheating, abuse, lying, drinking & drugs. George supposedly even shot a gun at Tammy but George denied it. He may have claimed he was aiming at the wall.
Unfortunately, some things remain the same 50 years later. However, nowadays women are just as bad.

I have the hardest, and worst time with southern accents. My coworkers laugh at me because I have to pass them to someone else. I can't understand them half the time...and.its the same language 🤪🤪🤣🤣🤣🤣

This was Tammy's song beginning to end.
She is one of a very few Women to breach the Male dominated Country Music.
Miss Kitty Wells First Lady of Country Music, showed the way.
Tammy tried to stand by her Man, but George couldn't leave the bottle. So she left him.

So glad you got to Tammy! Her voice is so unique and powerful. She is one of the country music queens and there's a huge rabbit hole for you to go down. She tackled a lot of relationship issues headon in her music, often from a child's perspective. She did many duets with her husband George Jones, my favorite of which is "Golden Ring." Other favorites of hers are "D-I-V-O-R-C-E," and "I Don't Wanna Play House."

Here's another one you might like - Eddie Rabbit singing his hit, Drivin' My Life Away, th-cam.com/video/Pu82VMf8enI/w-d-xo.html. It's definitely a truck-drivin' song! Or another fun song from him is, I Love a Rainy Night - th-cam.com/video/mMZ4amjbqhU/w-d-xo.html. He was popular back in the 80s, but sadly he died of lung cancer at the age of 56 in the late 90s. He was a fun performer to watch and was both a country and pop singer.

Tammy wrote this in 1968 just one year before marrying George Jones who hated the song. The song was written for George but he would never admit it. Little did he know it would become a number one country hit. He was horrible to Tammy, he would beat her, degrade her in public, I think he was married 4 or 5 times. I loved his music but couldn't stand him as a man.
