    Thanks for gathering the performance results of your Bearhawk (experimental) plane. I'm just starting essential calculations, I recall having a round protractor/flight planner. 🧭

    Tell us more about flying power/pitch instead of airspeed in the backcountry.

    Love this info. Don’t have a Patrol but in a few years hope to have a Model 5 finished & flying. I saved this for a future reference and will test it out and share our findings with our plane.

    Very good video .More people should do these comparisons. Spec sheets are just dangerous i think.

    FLY8MA, nice job adding the Bearhawk, my personal opinion is it is probably the most underrated of all the available kits and probably because of its UTILITY design and blue collar marketing. I was in the process of spec’ing and costing out a 4-Place build this last winter when the CoV started and brought my attention back to Salvation. I guess i am going to have to wait until Jesus THE CHRIST cleans this mess up before i get to build my Bearhawk. As close as all those “type” planes are to each other it comes down to the pilot 97% of the time, doesn’t? Next time your around BDN-S39 I would love to see your Bearhawk it looks like a well done build. Thanks again.

    Very good and realistic comparison testing! Very helpful in how to self test your own airplane to realize the indicated performance numbers for your airplane. (This is very much on par with Lori Macnicholl's training.)
    So what happens to those numbers if you are at say 200lbs over gross?

  • @tbainbrid
    @tbainbrid 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    cool comparison. Would be super scientific if variables like density altitude, wind, etc were equaled out, but a good ballpark.

    That drone shot at the beginning made me poo a bit as both a commercial pilot and part 107 operator.

    Excellent video. The spec sheets are probably from the prototype aircraft with a new engine etc. The problem is that iver time little mods are added that gradually increase weight. Dirt can accumulate and numerous other things add weight. Fabric and other things can degrade over time so, as you say, the specs only refer to a standard new plane.

  • @Forty5Kimber

    It seems to me the plane does exactly what is what engineered to do very well! I think the beauty is how well rounded and tough the patrol is. Does it fit your mission?

      @fly8ma.comflighttraining199  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Unfortunately this one doesn't, but I can see where it might fit others for sure. We're looking for our next bushplane right now!

    • @Forty5Kimber
      @Forty5Kimber 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      FLY8MA.com Flight Training are you going to look for another certified Bush Plane? Give us some hints!!! We are building a Kitfox II at my EAA chapter and I definitely see the appeal of the light weight 2-place market but I live in the high desert of Oregon and I would rather build something that I could camp out of easiest. What is your bush plane mission?

    • @davidboyle3032
      @davidboyle3032 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Forty5Kimber Per George Hardin I would really recommend finding a Kitfox with the 912ULS as the performance is excellent. I had no problems recently climbing out of the canyons of Idaho recently, unlike some of the other airplanes I saw. th-cam.com/video/XbH0c7ZD2EY/w-d-xo.html

    Sweet, it’s cool to see a video showing the difference gross/light. Just had a similar conversation with a guy the other day. How he went out moose hunting at gross, having never flown at gross, and he couldn’t get off the strip he landed at. Luckily he had an abort plan and stuck with it. He was asking me how I determined what I could get out of at gross, and my response... go practice at gross at altitude and at a long strip... his response from that... “duhh” LoL

    Gross weight = Lift required in "straight and level" flight for an aircraft at full load and fuel (The total weight that must be lifted off the ground ) The magnitude of the lift vector normal to the earth's surface for aircraft at constant altitude.

    I have changed my fuel tank from 20liter to 50 liter and it sits behind the seat. Will this be a big difference in my weight and balance ? My plane weight 189kg and can take another 250kg. Just dont want to take off and the tail sags all the way

    • @deanmiles3505
      @deanmiles3505 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was taught to look down the wing. Looking at the horizon and the wing tip will give you a good reference. I flew from a back seat without instruments and needed to fly level. It works very well.
      Good luck.

    I wonder if my wife knows I'm slowly acclimating her to colder weather so we can retire in Alaska and I can do this stuff? I'm already missing the 172 over the pa-28-140 I'm flying because of climb rate! If you get through your first solo in your ppl without noticing the difference in just losing your CFI, rip up that medical can get a drone license lol. Love all the videos man!!!

      This one doesn't have brakes or engine controls in the back, but you could build it out differently to do so, just get ready for absolute zero forward visibility

    I've been watching your Flight Training channel for over two years and just purchased a Stinson 108 that I look forward to taking to Alaska at some point. Awesome video and love both of your channels! The scenery in this is absolutely gorgeous when it was filmed. Have you and Stef ever considered creating a video series where you make the trip to Alaska and back from the lower 48 (or visa versa). Backcountrypilot.org has a cool and inspiring section on making this "bucket list" trip and camping in Alaska. Making a video series along the same lines seems right up both of your alleys :-D. I bet you could film videos for both your FLY8MA.com Flight Training and Vlog channels during this adventure. Best regards, Christian @ peregrinusS.com The extra S is for Solutions :-) PS If you are ever out by 6B9 please let us know, we would love to show you some of the local highlights!
