Coltrane would have been honored to have another tenor man emulate him so closely. You've picked up Coltrane's nuances really well Max. Super impressive playing.
Love Max's solos and the fact that he has posted two versions of this song, the regular changes and the "Coltrane" version. People forget that Trane was an original arranger as well as composer, in addition to his great improvising. Great solos from the rest of the band as well!
I never get tired of this version. I listen to it over and over. To me it epitomizes everything so great about your playing Max …. The sound, concept of harmony and the building of lines … everything came together so right in this tune. It is a great testimony and capture of your talent. I wish you all the best and thank you for your dedication, intent and bravery. Someday I hope to hear you live and thank you personally. Bravo Mr. Ionata ….
Takes guts to cover my fav COLTRANE song which is a cover of a classic. I'd never attempt to bake carrot cake with my MA's recipe. Kudos to guys with guts.
Less than 8k views.......unbelievably low for such a brilliant performance. The whole band is great. I'm sure John Coltrane would have approved if he'd been around to hear your interpretation of 'But Not for me'Having seen Jerry Bergonzi live at his peak, I can hear his influences in your playing. I'm speading the word about Max Ionata to jazz musician friends in my area to listen to what your doing and hopefully see you live if you come to the uk
Sounds as if it were almost Coltrane, and that's perfect. I'd $ to see and hear this guy perform. The song, a cover of a Gershwin tune, is my fav my fav my fav Coltrane cut. The band does justice to the original yet so with originality. This is a great cover of a cover.
Che spettacolo. Formazione super, e con tre grandi artisti italiani. Max, non ci sono parole, davvero. Commovente quanto suoni bene, quanto hai ricordato Trane pur rimanendo te stesso.
This is great playing by everyone! I am going to enjoy "camping out" on this YT channel for a long time. Please keep posting more stuff and many thanks for sharing this!!
Vivissimi complimenti
I usually don't like upright bass slots but this guy is really good! All of these guys are fantastic. I love Max Ionata's playing. He got a unique style, he's different from most guys, his way of phrasing and the way he approaches harmony. I really enjoy it.
What a delightful interpretation! Just when I think that this kind of playing has faded away I find a gem like this where the tribute to the original Coltrane version is clear yet every musician is doing something unique and individual so you get an entirely new version. Along with a lot else that I like I think that the interaction between everyone and the drummer with the breaks is superbly crafted.
At last areal heavyweight on the saxophone incredible sound ideas humility knowledge and what a fabulous rhythm section bravo Italian jazz Nigel Nash in britain
I believe Max Ionata is criminally underrated. Plays with no ego, wonderful quoting and magnificent line construction, and great interplay between himself and the rhythm section. A true master of his craft
The Drummer has a great feel!! I'm taking a lot of notes from watching and listening. Thank you! Everyone is really great together. Also taking notes from the piano player!
Thank you Philip! In this video I was playing with my Bari HR refaced by Filippo Bucci. Very soon will be released a new signature piece by Marmaduke Japan that is inspired by this piece.
@@maxionata Hi Max, thanks for the reply; is that a 7* star opening? I understand that's your preferred tip opening choice. Anyway, great sound man. Stay safe and keep swinging!
I really love the piano solo in the original of this track, but this just sounds wrong on so many levels. You should be hearing every note, instead of rushing through the piano solo like you have to be somewhere...
@M.Alders, I'd have to respectfully disagree with you, even though I do know what you're saying. His piano solo here was beautiful. Very tasteful and going along with the vibe and the tempo. This isn't a recital where everything needs to be played note for note. Players should be able to add their own touch to the music, and I think he did just that. Little different than the original, of course.......that's what makes it beautiful. I heard plenty of original ideas in there while he still kept the main idea of the tune very clear, and that's what jazz is all about. Awesome piano player!

Thank you Sam for your beautiful comment but Trane is Trane! ❤️

Go MAX! All the family is swangin'!

Swing and groove, Ireally can’t stand still if this is playing. I love the original Coltrane’s version and this comes very close😀🫡👍👍
So good.

I love how both this and the other version had both quotes from Rollins and Coltrane. Huge fan!
Great player . Inspired for life

Every note was heard! He articulated each note finely!
