- A while back I made a tutorial how to do this with Source Filmmaker and the workshop tools, but that will not always work for all assets. So here a tutorial on how to do it with VRF (a tool I did not make).
Download VRF: valveresourceformat.github.io/
File you need to open with VRF is called pak01_dir.vpk
Every week on Tuesday a new tutorial of something that I use when producing (esports) broadcasts.

Thanks a lot! Very useful!
Thanks Big help brother:)
very useful!
Thanks mate!
Hi this video help alot .
Thanks!
i just import Invoker‘s glTF assets into Blender,
but the aix of skeleton work in wrong way and the skeleton very huge cuz the long distance between two points.
I was doing the same thing as you but during import I got some broken meshes. And then I noticed that for Bone Dir option you have 'Temperance' but not default 'Blender'. After I change it, everything starting to work as expected. Didn't think that it could have such impact. Thanks.
Thank you for the tutorial very useful! Has anyone had any success 3d printing the exported models? I followed this tutorial and it works to extract the files but when exporting to STL the meshes come out low poly/not considering the textures. Probably user error on my part but just curious if anyone has any pointers or things to consider. Thanks again!
Soo, what if the model gets distorted after applying a parent? Any idea how to fix it?
I have a question: if the base of model and the part (like hair) have different bones, how can we merge them?
Really depends. Best is to search for Blender tutorials on that subject as at least I am not a Blender expert.
@@gjverhoeff_tutorials thank you for your tutorial, it helps me so much. I just have some problems when I try their different skins because they dont use same bone.
@@LQDOrigami In that case best to look for a Blender tutorial on merging. As there is no way for me to tell what you are actually doing and someone with more Blender experience can probably help you way better than that I can.
nice tutorial. can you use this method to also import skins like arcanas, or is this only for base skins only?
I have only used it with base skins
Hey bro, thanks so much for this, its an awesome guide! You can spend hours just importing hero models.
Small question - with some heroes (eg Anti-Mage), when parenting the weapon to the base hero model, none of the Set Parent options seem to correctly snap the weapon to the hero model.
Armature deform works with the animation, but positioning is off, and moving the weapon with grab only makes it stretch. Any ideas on how to fix this?
I don't know per specific heroes, but maybe best to compare to the original models valve provides on their website or reach out/check on the GitHub issues page of VRF github.com/ValveResourceFormat/ValveResourceFormat/issues
thanks
One question, can we bring the hero skins from dota to Blender?
Textures are included of the default hero if you use this method. You can also download the textures for the default skins from the Dota2 Workshop page (but those won't include the game animations): www.dota2.com/workshop/requirements
Hey can you also make a video on how to take Dota 2 models to Daz Studio to pose & cloth?
Hi, Unfortenately I have no experience with Daz Studio.
@@gjverhoeff_tutorials thanks for the reply. Can you guide me where can I find arcana models? There's only a few on the workshop.
@@bezaar01 Aren't most of them particle effects? Mm haven't seen them yet.
Or is there a place where you can download the skins for free
its possible to port with sets or specfic item?
Not sure to be honest. But the models for the items are probably in the gamefiles (can't imagine Valve loading those when you go online) so you could look in there if the models exists.
Do you know how to export to STL always i want to export animation is broken
Sorry no experience with STL files, best is to look into other Blender tutorials for that.
Did you ever find a solution?
It doesn't appear to me, the pak01_dir file
Make sure to look in the correct folder.
谢谢!!
can i export an entire map?
Mm never tried it but you might be able
@@gjverhoeff_tutorials im having some issues, but i figured out maps is some kind of file that call assets and your positions, scale and textures.
when i decompiled and exported this file, its only show me a 3D project of every asset used on map, but not positioned.
i just wanted a full map to do a camera tour in unreal engine :(
Hi =)
