I love that the clip's title is "Trying to escape John Travolta". I'm guessing because the movie is such a dumpster fire that only a handful of people would even know the name of John Travolta's character. 🤣

Not really. They do believe there was an intergalactic empire that was destroyed by nuclear weapons, and that their souls now infest living people. That it is only through Scientology that you can rid yourself of these souls (Go Clear) that they call Thetans. But you only reach that at OT-3, after they've sucked at least $250,000 out of you, so you're obliged to believe or admit you got scammed out of a quarter million.

Saw this in the theater when it first came out. It had the whole Phantom Menace thing going. I thought I should like it, and tried to justify it but deep down knew it was hot garbage.
In Los Angeles, there is a Scientology recruiting center on Hollywood blvd or Sunset, I can't remember. They use young, beautiful model-looking people to stand outside and try to recruit you! All of them dressed like Wall st.
I've seen them but they dress like old-time theater ushers (minus the hats).
I went to their psychiatry museum. Whenever someone tries to get their point across by linking everything they don’t like to Hitler, i switch off and disregard everything they say
If you’ve ever tried to actually read Dianetics you’ll realize it makes even less sense that this film. It’s literal gobble d guck.

Battlefield Earth. It’s literally the Scientology Dianetics movie.
It was supposed to be a legit sci-fi Alien Invasion movie - and to be fair, it would have worked - if only whoever had written the adaptation from the book had corrected all the plot holes and logical breakdowns...
Saw this movie when it first came out. the book was awesome. The movie...well I'll be nice and just say not so awesome. I think this was Travolta's offering to his Fearless Leader L. Ron Hubbard. To bad it didn't do justice to the book. Those who don't know, Hubbard was an early scifi writer like Asimov and Heinlein. I never really read it anywhere but I think Heinlein thought Hubbard was either crazy or a joke because in at least a couple of his books he poked fun at Scientology.

@@jjackson3240 The book was horrible too. It doesn't use the strengths of pulp by being fast paced, so Battlefield Earth moves slow. And the aliens there were also dumb, and the other non-Psychlo alien species are dumb in the same way so they might as well be the same aliens but with different names.
Too bad Mission Earth is even worse.

John Travolta (who’s a member) spent years bringing this to the big screen, even claiming that it’s better than Star Wars!😂
The results: it’s widely considered to be one of the worst movies ever made for its amateurish & lousy acting, unintentionally hilarious moments, horrible direction where every single shot is a Dutch angle which you have to put your head in an uncomfortable diagonal position, atrocious screenplay and it’s notable of “winning” multiple Razzie Awards in 3 SEPARATE CEREMONIES!

Shapiro.
In 2005 it “won” Worst Drama Movie of the show’s first 25 years
In 2010 it “won” Worst Picture of the Decade where the screenwriter accepted the award in person and acknowledged that Battlefield Earth is god-awful
Travolta believed that this film would be a big hit, but instead it ruined his career. Never join Scientology, they will destroy you!

I was studying Scientology back in the 90s, at the dawn of the Internet -- _long_ before Project Chanology, or Tom Cruise's couch-jumping antics -- and *not* because I had any belief that it was a good thing, but rather because I was _fascinated_ by how insanely subversive and destructive it was to an individual's will and sense of self. I don't think any other group has so mastered the art of brainwashing. It's absolutely _fascinating!_

Admittedly I only saw this movie for Barry Pepper. As funny and bad as it is, he really looks good in his character's attire.
