      To add, that Sweet Baby is a gem of an inexpensive pedal. The clarity is there and it is simple to get warm or sharp "clean" overdriven tones.

    You should check out the traditional HS cyclone! Pretty hard to find as they weren’t mass produced as much by fender. You can find a Squier VM Cyclone from the 2003-2011ish run they had over on reverb for a more reasonable price. I own one and its my absolute favorite guitar. Personally I think its one of Fender’s best instruments and their most underrated.

    I like this one loads better than the last paranormal Fender you reviewed. Now if only it was the color of the last one it would be IT! Although the way the pickups were set in the body last time triggered my mind in unkind ways lol, my biggest set back with them was that the sound they had just seemed to miss even through your Princeton. These pickups on the otherhand sound incredible in comparison. I really dig the Jag set up for the electronics. I get how they may be in the way to some but I'd be down for them. All in all I'm really impressed with this one. Now slap that sparkling blue on it and call it Baby!!!

    I like that guitar! I've been contemplating putting a switching ensemble like that on my project guitar... I mean who doesn't want to hear the bridge and neck pickup together, right? And that combo does sound good on the Cyclone.
    My project guitar is an HSS, so adding a coil split would give 15 tones instead of 7... and I was thinking of adding phasing switches, too, which (if my math is right) would be 127 combinations... boggles my mind.
    So maybe I'll just listen to you play instead.

    So…first of all…I watch all of these. Every one of your videos. I’m a fan. And when you watch all of them, you notice some things. With that in mind, would you estimate that the Princeton amp pretty handily dictates the tone of whatever single coil situation you are running through it? Or can you hear distinct differences in the tone? Most of the single coils you run sound pretty…Princeton-y to me. Just an honest question. Thanks Lando!

    • @landonbailey
      @landonbailey  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It definitely doesn't colour any of the tones like the Ac10 does. Also I always hear a different sound in the room vs the recording from the ribbon mic. it's a weird thing to explain for sure 👍😄

    • @Sean_Plays_Guitar
      @Sean_Plays_Guitar 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@landonbailey I suspected there would be some ‘in-room’ differences. I think you’re recordings do a good job and if I heard them back to back I could probably key in on some subtlety. The good new is, the ‘Princeton-y’ sound is basically like eating bacon for my ears so…no harm, no foul 😂🤘🏻

    Good informative video! I have one nitpicky comment though. All the guitar channels that do this sort of review/deep dive show the resistance value of more than one pickup at a time. The only really relevant values are those of each individual pickup. Ohm's Law says that resistance values of resistors/pickups in parallel will always be slightly less than that of the smallest resistance in the circuit. Just one of my pet peeves, showing the resistance of pickups in parallel means nothing in terms of how the guitar may or may not perform.

    Had one but returned it. I was very happy with the build quality & setup and comfort. I could live with the problems created by the placement of the pickup switches. Sonically, the guitar disappointed. The pickups are way too hot and the non-Strat pickup positions weren't useful to me. Also the shorter (24.75 in.) scale saps the guitar of the bite you get on a Strat or Tele. BUT the biggest problem is that there are no lower frequencies (low end) in the sound. It's all mid-range and treble. If a Tele is a heavyweight boxer, then the Cyclone is a Welterweight by comparison.

    From Leo: It is interesting that this guitar has the 24.75 gibson scale, and not the traditional Jaguar 24,0" scale or the Fender 25.5 inch scale. I wonder if the neck would fit a Jaguar and work out ok? The smoother sounding Alnico pickups are a nice touch. Squier has been doing a good job on their better guitars.

    I have one! In shell pink… the tones are NOT like the Strat or Jag… They are unique! I have a old made in Japan Strat, and for whatever reason the three and five out of phase positions on my Strat do not sound EXACTLY like the three and five out of phase positions on the Cyclone, they have a slightly different sound, though maybe a bit similar. The switching on each guitar (Jag or Cyclone) gives you extra separate tones over the 5 position Strat… but since a Jag has only TWO PUPs, the strangle switch is the “3rd switch…” On the Jaguar you get the following positions: 1 bridge only ; 2 bridge strangled ; 3 neck only; 4 neck strangled ; 5 bridge and neck, 6 bridge and neck strangled … On the Cyclone you get the following SEVEN positions 1 bridge only ; 2 bridge and middle ; 3 middle only ; 4 middle and neck ; 5 neck only ; and 6 bridge and neck, and 7 ALL THREE PUPs ON… Also check out the review on “60 cycle hum”… I DO like the trem… I broke off the tremolo arm in the trem block by mistake, so I ordered an FU Tone block… The original block was very robust. However, my new one is even better…. the guys at FU TONE were great, very helpful… and the new block is even better (brass, heavier, more sustain)

    Is Squier really that far off from a Fender especially the classic vibe line? It seems like the gap between the 2 gets smaller all of the time.

    • @peterwilson8039
      @peterwilson8039 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The classic vibe line has the faux-vintage theme, and they cover the neck with a thick gloss coating that sticks to your fingers as soon as they start to sweat. The player series doesn't do that, and at a certain level of 'money doesn't matter', that would be enough reason for me to buy the player series. At my current level of 'money does matter', the Affinity series works pretty good.

    Good review. Now if Fender would "Hard Tail" it, it would be worth buying. (I am absolutely done with Tremolo bridges - even decked - get knocked out of tune far too easy).
    P.S. I really like that metallic red.

    • @0000song0000
      @0000song0000 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you can either lock the tremolo or mod it adding a wood block glued and a hard tail bridge.
      probably they weighted the audience for this and
      people into offsets prefer whammy bars

    Hey Landon, I have a Fender pawn shop mustang special bought in 2012. The LOWER master pick up knob switch is SCRATCHY & it’s driving me nuts. I don’t usually unscrew everything like you do, lest I screw things up more (21 screws) and I’m not a DEEP diver. I am adventurous enough though to try it. WHAT is your best guess, could it just be lose ...or need SOLDERING, if the latter I may need to take it to a professional luthier. OR buy a soldering kit ...HELP. ....LOVE MY GUITAR

    Those stock squire pickups gotta go,they sound terrible thru all that great playing you did,and it is one beautiful guitar, with some great features, not sure if the recording did any justice to these pickups,that we are not hearing on this end,not the spank or quack,I was expecting from a strat looking guitar,totally harsh sounding,can't blame that on you bro, maybe you should watch the video and tell us again,how much you like them pickups 🤣👍🎸

    Love the switching options with the 3 pups, Strats need that switching, but just not in that location. Heavy guitars are painful, my Norlin era 1975 Gibson Les Paul Custom killed my neck/shoulder even with a huge furry strap. Heaviest guitar I ever played. My buddies 1970s Ash Strat comes close though.

      @@landonbailey I ended up finding your review video after I commented. I like it because the body shape is comfortable to play while lounging about. Looking into modding it though, to be honest, since the control layout isn't as versatile as I'd hoped, even though it's unorthodox set up does lead to a bit of creativity here and there.

    Thanks for the great reviews! And for being the only review that I saw that mentioned the switch position issue. Despite your warning, I tried one of these and I love everything except that. I really like to work on my precision with strumming, and hitting the right strings, but really don't want to be concerned about the area below the strings! When I tried playing RHCP "Can't Stop" I actually killed the bridge pickup--not totally switched down, but nudged it enough to kill it. Wouldn't this be the same as on the Jaguars? I've not heard anything about it other than your review, and I think you did say "you WILL hit them"....I did.
