    I too bought the Super-Sonic for all the same “it’s retro and cool” reasons. Mine also had tuning issues which were solved with an intonation adjustment and some playing time. I’ve decided not to do any mods - for now. I’m thrilled to see someone equally excited with a simple student guitar that’s rich with charm. Love your show.

    Just played my first show (streaming full band set) with the supersonic. I abused the trem and threw it around and it held tune and sounded great. Just for anyone being turned off by tuning issues. Most of all I’ll say this guitar is just fun to play. I’m looking foreword to the mod vid.

    I floated the bridge on my Super Sonic and added Grover locking tuners which resolved my tuning issues. Tip on the tremolo bar: wrap the threads in a little plumber's Teflon tape to make it nice and responsive and not so loose.

  • @Bunkinduncan
    @Bunkinduncan 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I put gotoh locking tuners and some new string trees and that got everything rock solid for tuning. Tbh it held ok tune before the upgraded tuners. Heavy strings helped. Only other mod was a push/pull coil split that just added some more options. It’s quickly become one of my favorite guitars.

    I snagged this guitar and fortunately was able to get it to stay in tune both with and without tremolo use. Graphite the heck out of the nut until any rough edges are smoothed out. also take a fret polish cloth or steel wool to the inside of the string trees to smooth those out. last trick I like to do on floating tremolos: remove all the strings and loosen the 4 middle bridge screws a by about 1.5mm. leave the outer 2 as is. this makes tremolo use much smoother.
    oh...and use 10 gauge strings!!! not sure why this thing ships with 9s
    hope someone out there finds these tips useful. it's a fun guitar once you get it to play like butter!

    I have the Squier Super-Sonic and Cyclone. It’s the Tremolo system springs. Both of mine trems are tightened down more than your Super-Sonic they hold tune better. I haven’t changed my strings yet. But I’m going with 10-52s gauge regardless of brand. I have thought about throwing those TUSQ string tree guides ($11) on to see if it could help as it’s relative a cheap mod along with the springs. But I’m impressed with both guitars for the money. Also will graphite the nut on string change.

    From Ryan from 60CH and Emily from Get Offset's videos on this the pickups are splittable, as are most Fender humbuckers of late to my knowledge and experience... These are such interesting guitars, apparently the Paranormal series ones were meant to take the best of the features from the Vista originals, and they consulted with Nick Reinhart from Tera Melos who has loads of the original (he did an insta post about it not too long ago), so they're meant to have a very similar neck profile and sound to the originals, but with a few tweaks such as the switch direction.
    I've actually got an original one with me at the moment, I'm fixing it up for a friend who had no idea what he had for ages, assuming it was 'just another cheapo Squier'. Very excited to put it together, we're doing two Catswhisker humbuckers with a push push split, master volume and master tone. I'm planning on tracing the body shape and making my own SS version with a Tele cutoff bridge.
    What song I'd play on it? I'd go for a Great Grandpa track, the guitarist Pat has one of the Fender ones.

    I got the charcoal metallic one and I love it but like you my heart really wants one of the sparkle finish ones. I’ve considered having it re-finished but haven’t pulled the trigger yet. What a guitar for the money though, I stuck 10’s on mine and decked the tremolo but set it up so it was still usable, no tuning issues at all after that.

  • @Dick67

    ok I understand it must be a lot cheaper to place the input jack on the scratch-plate, rather than on the side of the guitar out of the way (like on that sext red devil on the wall), but that's why right-angled jack cords were invented! You've got control knobs and input cords and tremelo arm all competing for space, the whammy bar is hitting the cord jack... but I NEVER see anyone use a 90 degree input! Or they stick that end in the pedal/amp, and put the straight end in the guitar. Unless you have a Stratocaster with the iconic angled input jack, then give me a right-angle jack anyday.

  • @Nissan570Lsx

    I have squier jaquar. Fixed bridge like toronado, but instead of having 4 knobs it uses concentric volume and tone for each pick up. I'd do that to your guitar and fix counter intuitive positioning(check cavity depth) along with some kluson locking or split peg tuners(i have a set for my jag. They just look right) and better nut.
    Did you make it to the end of the comment? Congratulations. You're a member of the end of the comment club. I got you a little something for your wall. • @twenty3electronics
    @twenty3electronics 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The string trees are in the wrong order and should be rollers. The middle string tree can probably be omitted and just leave the taller one on the bass strings. File the back of the nut at a downward angle so there is less contact with the strings. Use 11 gauge strings since it’s 24 scale not 24 and 3/4.

    New better strings and then remember to pull them befor fine tuning... It is not fair to judge a guitar with stock strings :)

    I would like to have one day this guitar left-handed so I would reverse it to play right-handed.

      btw, you should enter yourself. You have plenty of time, finished and video made by Oct 17. The official builders (big follower counts Diresta, Crimson etc) all used kit guitars as are many unofficial entrants (it's fun to buildalong).

    What an oddball duck of a guitar. A funky Firebird? Designed by a drunk and angry lefty? I'd start with a zero glide nut, staggered and locking tuning machines and lose the trees altogether. I'd also go as far moving the output jack to the bottom round of the body like a Tele and put a tone control in its place.
    EDIT: Play The Ocean by Led Zep on it. Also, when you take it apart, can you have a look at that strap button at the neck plate - did they use an extra long screw? That's a funky mod I'd like to try.
