- Take a deep breath and dive down to the depths of the ocean -- and life -- with world champion free diver Tanya Streeter who has often been asked to redefine her own limits. In sharing her journeys, she invites us to do the same.

What people fail to realize is, her dying was minimal. She had 16 safety divers in the water, many precautions in place, and honestly it was amazing. The woman who dives the deepest is the documentary.
Sure except that the woman who's record that she broke, died on her attempt to retake the record....
@@diverbob8 Which was the direct result of her husband and his negligence. If her tank hadn’t been empty and they adequate safety she would’ve survived her dive.
Listening to her account of her world record attempt makes my stomach churn. I’m glad that nobody really does no-limits competitively anymore. There’s just too much that can go wrong.

I have a crazy idea....why don't we just clean it up? We've got the technology. We've got the means, instead of standing around accusing each other about who's fault it is, why not just fix the problem? It will cost a lot of money, yes, it will take a long time, yes, but wouldn't our efforts be better spent trying to find the solution than arguing about it's causes? All this problem requires is the will to solve it. Just sayin'.
Its not that easy
no money in it. hence, humans won't go out of their way to see this as a prerogative.

her gift is one of my biggest fears. bottom of the ocean? yuchk. I relate to her search for excellence, but definitely not her craft.
for the first time, i have a very clear thought about where we are right now as a species:
we learning about what we CANT do. men cant no-limit freedive deeper than 214m and women cant go deeper than 160m.
can we now MOVE on and become human beings first?
As a person who has lost his health I can't comprehend why a person would risk theirs. Do I need to say more?
Human minds... we do, define, and die by what we love, nothing unusual in creating our journey unless you're limited or afraid by your capacities.
This isn't anything new, I saw what it could do to animals over 30 years ago. When knowing what this did I taught my son not to throw the plastic that holds sixs pack together without breaking them apart so that it would not wrap around an animals neck. It upset me to so that it is still happening and after 30 years we haven't made any changes.

Yeah, you dont understand. Living to some people isnt living. Just existing isnt enough. You're content with that, thats fine, but dont try to place your own limitations on others.
wait.. she blacked out, she thought of her team waiting on depth, she took a deep breath, packed a couple of times and broke the record.... what does she mean she blacked out??
She blacked our while taking a breath before starting to descend. At that time could still attempt the dive since she blacked out before. Apparently the rule is now changed. See the documentry by Discovery on Audrey mestre who died attempting to break Tanya's record a few weeks later. Tanya's details it and there is actual footage in that documentry too.
I realize she is very tough, but I'm sorry I think she got lucky to some degree surviving that descent. It sounds more like she ignored her "gut" the entire way down and at the bottom she thought she was going to pay the ultimate price for it. She also was surrounded by tons of safety divers who had extra inflatable bags and were ready to attach her to one if she didn't pull it herself. It's okay sometimes to say I don't feel right about this or I'm not doing this today. I don't understand this level of extremism or competitiveness.

Interesting talk, however, the quote at the end is a very western hemisphere centric sentiment that ignores the vast inequities of human existence on this planet.

If you want to know about Tanya's dives make sure her husband, Paul, is with her. Even though he didn't do any diving he knows about it more than she does. Don't worry about getting him to talk, he doesn't need any coaching. He knows way more about than actual divers.

I applaud her passion for this cause, but it’s difficult to take someone seriously when they refer to themselves as looking pretty!! Someone should have helped her with this speech and told her it’s narcissistic and not humble to refer as yourself as pretty!! Especially when you’re speaking to people whom you’re trying to win over for such a just cause!! Too bad and so sad this happened...
But she wasn’t saying she was pretty she was citing something her husband said
