Hi Adam, Great to see you have started the videos again. Like this one. I think 16 June 1904 as the current days date is only mentioned twice in the entire book. By Miss Dunne as she types it and in reference to Patk. Dignams funeral in the passage with the barge man. It is also mentioned on a budget list but not tied to the current date on that list as could be in the future. I think the card Molly puts in the windows is a signalling system to Blaze Boylan? Keep up the good work.

Thanks, Kevin! But does Boylan need a signal? Bloom knows he's coming over to "drop off some music." If Bloom were accidentally home for some reason, Boylan could just leave the music and come (pun intended) another time when Bloom is out. It's an interesting idea though, and maybe there's more evidence in the text that I'm missing.

@@AdamSavageland Yeah good point. Even Bloom knows he is coming. So in the text the card "slipped from the sash and fell". Then Molly give the begging sailor some money "A woman's hand flung forth a coin ..." . Next reference to the card is "A card Unfurnished Apartments reappeared on the windowsash of number 7 Eccles street". So Molly does put it back on the windowsash on purpose. Do the Blooms act as agents for apartment rental or rent a room now Milly Bloom has moved out? If it is not a signal to Boylan (or what it says) maybe it is a signal to Mr. Bloom? A sort of act of kindness to say don't come home now. I am consummating my affair with Boylan? Joyce always provides a mystery.

That's a good idea too. Basically there are many things in Ulysses that are ambiguous. That allows our imaginations to come into play.

@Kevin Smith The date is also partially mentioned in Eumaeus (not the month nor the year), when Lord John Corley borrows half a crown from Stephen: 'However, haud ignarus malorum miseris succurrere disco, etcetera, as the Latin poet remarks, especially as luck would have it he got paid his screw after every middle of the month on the sixteenth which was the date of the month as a matter of fact though a good bit of the wherewithal was demolished.'
