    Inflation is created in Wanshington DC and by The Fed. Printing trillions of Dollars "stimulus" is the root of current increase in prices.

    Building more housing😂. What about regulating investment companies such as Black Rock from buying up all affordable housing from consumers by offering excess in price which caused excess overpricing in housing causing this housing bubble.

      The reason our gas prices have been going up is biden and him ALONE. He signed his horrible policies January 2021, removing oil subsidies, which made gas cheaper for middle class. He has shut down 50% of our oil production! The supply is low and demand is still high. This is because of bidens policies and gas then went higher because of the sanctions.

Then during 2020 that free bank account switched, I was a broke college student studying medicine taking out max student loans. My roommates decided to leave and I had to pick up the cost of the house we were renting. The bank started charging ridiculous fees for simply not having enough money in the account. Before I knew it I had 200$ in fees simply for being poor. They changed the rules (withdraw limits new fees) all while being bailed out by the government. How bout making college so expensive and turning the youth of this country into slaves!
      How bout using and allowing dark money to run our government and allowing those behind that money to run our world! Yeepie !!!!
      How bout leaving our borders open so as to allow every undocumented person to simply swim, run, skip, or drive in to our country and drive down the salary of the Food Service Industry and most Trades.
      Well I could go on, but there’s nothing to do now but watch the bread & circus theatrics that have been unfolding since the late 1970s.

    Ms. Cortez Masto was asking the right questions and Powell answered appropriately given his role. The underlying problem is the legacy role of the Fed and how they should not be influencing policy to some extent especially when the very policies driving inflation could be modified by other agencies in the government. This old excuse of the Fed separating from competitive watchdog agencies is old and should be redefined.

      @joshuabernard7515 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ossoff's question about inelastic demand vs. inelastic supply as drivers of inflation stuck out for precisely this reason. Powell talked about the lowering of housing asset prices as a consequence of the rate hike, but didn't explicitly mention the short-run effect this would have on renters as landlords with outstanding variable-rate mortgages would respond by increasing rents even more than they would have otherwise, thereby increasing living costs, putting more upward pressure on wages, and finally dampening (if not outright negating) the anticipated first-order downward effect on prices.
      People in the business press talk about the wage-price vicious cycle but I don't hear as much about the role of the prices of _necessities_ with permanently inelastic demand as a (relatively) exogenous root cause. It might not matter if nonessential commodities get cheaper if living costs keep getting more expensive faster than CPI, as some of them (housing, healthcare, postsecondary education) consistently have long before the March 2020 covid shock, with the more recent supply-driven energy and food price shocks only worsening the problem.

    • @NEMO-NEMO
      @NEMO-NEMO 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@joshuabernard7515 Am not as articulate or for that matter as knowledgeable as you are about the economy but here goes.
      In simple terms that I hav been able to understand, making the loaning of money very cheap, (cheap money 0-1% interest) brings forward a slew of folks who will borrow it and make more gains from it, in the area of hard assets.
      These folks also took this cheap money and made investments with it, creating wealth that they did not work for nor did they create a better company or product or service.
      They went from Brooklyn to Connecticut in 2 years.
      Just this alone tilts the playing ground in a negative direction bc the concentration of wealth is now bigger.
      These folks could afford loads of possessions like houses, yachts, autos, upscale markets, clothes, and second and third homes everywhere in the world.
      Money is power. And money that has been created without the burden of work is even more dangerous.
      So.,,,, while folks were sitting home and not working, but instead given a $1400. Check, other folks were busy building fortunes.
      This is just a very small portion of the ills of today.
      To be honest, it’s a trifecta of destruction.
      A pandemic
      A food shortage
      A war
      An unsustainable hike in fuel/energy
      An inflation that will leave many of the folks receiving the $1400, on the street.
      That’s more than a trifecta!
      Not sure of my economics. But like I said, it’s the best I can do with the little knowledge I have.
      The other point I would like to touch upon is the renter-landlord-bank relationship.
      The American people bailed out the banks in 2008,
      If a landlord has a variable rate mortgage and his mortgage increases, the banks need to accept what the landlord can get out of renters, in this time of trouble.
      They (banks) can afford to wait because they survived the 2008 tragedy through the help of all those landlords and renters and baristas and cook, bakers, teachers… etc.

There is enough information in the public domain. In addition, It is no surprise that the FED has printed about 5 Trillion Dollars in the past 2 years. Inflation has been rising for over 10 months. Powel said he can use his tools to reduce demand to decrease inflation. He does this by selling assets into the economy (QT). He also said that he is not the cause of inflation, specifically in food and energy costs. He is wrong about that because he is adding money into the real economy that finds its way (through banks, the government, equity loans etc.) into the real economy that chases the price of goods and assets. The amount of stuff we have available went down, the amount of money went up and keeps going up rapidly. This means that there is more money available for a limited amount of stuff. THE FED CAUSED THE INFLATION THROUGH QE.

And the only way people can buy more stuff is if there is more stuff to buy. Not to mention many retailers like walmart are warning of excess inventories. The fed just wants you to believe that because they don't want to admit QE causes inflation. Because then they would get blamed for causing the current situation and it would limit their ability to do QE in the future.
