    What if, this whole time, Scott was just making a very elaborate and under appreciated Se7en (1995) reference, and he did all this just so he can have a little laugh whenever we yell “WHAT’S IN THE BOX?!”

    I always thought the box was a symbol of Fnaf as a whole. The quote, "Perhaps some things are best left forgotten, for now." could represent the mysteries that still haven't been answered, and seeing that Fnaf is at a second phase, with new concepts with repeating themes, while introducing new characters, and characters that reflect old characters, we are also seeing connections in the newer games from the older games.

      I think it was Fnaf World in a way.
      People think Fnaf world’s world map look like a human brain with the Graveyard being pretty tangential to where CC would have suffered the impact of the Fredbear jaw
      I always assume the box contained evidence towards Michael being the CC and being resurrected so Fnaf world could work

    The parallel of Mike having his foxy mask in the box to the Bonnie bro mask in help wanted 2’s box is really narratively satisfying! I don’t really know how the chica beak clue would support this theory since to me at least, it leans more into dream theory. But the other 3 clues can work with your interpretation and it’s fun to think about!

    To me it seems the most logical solution to what's in the trunk is Bite Victim's stuff :( FoxyBro held onto the trunk and that is why he continues to be haunted by the nightmares which eventually lead him to going back to Freddy's to try communicating with his brother. I have to wonder sometimes if FoxyBro became the killer. "The party was for you." could point to the MCI being a horrific birthday party for BiteVictim with kidnapped children in attendance.

    I've heard that the hint from "Scott" asking, "Have you thought about who the night guard is?" was fake. Or, that it wasn't actually Scott asking that.
    Despite that, I do genuinely think whoever wrote that had an excellent point.
    Also, I like how "Four Games. One Story." implies we played as Mike/FoxyBro in FNAF 2 as either Jeremy Fitzgerald or Fritz Smith (the latter being the most likely in my eyes).
    And I love your theory of the Foxy Mask being in the box. It probably would have steered the conversation more into who owned the mask and why *they* in particular has such a seemingly significant part in the story that their mask in the box.
    As for what I think what is/was in the box, I think it was just the whole story: the pieces put together.
    And he was worried about showing the whole story with him asking, "But would the community accept it that way?"
    And I can definitely see why he would have been. The majority of the fun and appeal of FNAF is its mystery and the community coming together to solve its story. He pretty much said exactly that in the steam post:
    "You know, when I released the first game over a year ago, I was amazed at how quickly everyone found every bit of lore and story. Then the same happened with part 2, fans and youtubers dug in and found everything. Game Theory did an incredible video on part 2; getting almost everything right. Then part 3 came out, and once again the story was uncovered by the community. It seemed that there was nothing I could hide!"
    The excitement and sheer *fun* from that text is so *palpable!*
    This really shows to me just how much Scott loves not only his story but the fandom's involvement in solving it and coming together to do so.
    Maybe one day if we ever come to fully solve FNAF 4's story and how it connects to its predecessors, he'll open the box for us. Or maybe when he finishes the current story he's telling in the Steel Wool era (which, to me, has so many subtle connections to the past era that seem like they will eventually come into play).
    A guy can dream.

    This theory actually actually convinced me, partially because I’ve always believed fnaf 4 was Michael, but I hadn’t been sure how the pieces fit together since dream theory had seemed to have been the actual explanation for the livestream hints, as well as the hospital equipment.
    By explaining the what is seen in shadows line as referring to the missing children, the pieces click together. Especially since in the game after 4 Michael talks about the funtime animatronics, saying, they thought I was you. (Note I know the line is referring to the funtimes not others, but it still works as a hint for clarifying the past game)

    i have an answer for the toy chica missing her beak one that would align. if we say fnaf 4 is michael's dreams, does that not mean the minigames could also be michael's dreams? reliving the days up to That Day, but in his younger brother's place?
    but then... dreams are always subject to subconcious influence. if we surmise these fnaf 4 dreams take place after fnaf 2... well, i'm sure you understand. perhaps the minigame toy chica is missing her beak... because michael saw toy chica missing her beak in the fnaf 2 location
    BUT HEY THATS JUST A THEORY

  • @sonotfetch
    @sonotfetch 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    I feel like if Scott had rearranged the way he revealed these clues in the livestream folks would've gotten closer to the conclusion that you've made here. It also would've made the sister location secret room less vague.
    Maybe if he first said "who is the security guard in these games" then "four games one story", then "why would chica be missing her beak" and honestly, omit or change the wording of "what can be seen in the shadows etc etc" that livestream could've gone in a better direction.
    I say omit/change the "what a child can see in the shadows" (sorry i forget the quote) is because I dont think anyone was thinking of Michael/Foxy bro as the child. At the time and still to this day people colloquially refer to the boy we see flashbacks of in FNAF 4 as the "Crying Child". Pair this with the hospital stuff and fnaf 1 audio playing I can very clearly see why Matpat came up with Dream Theory.
    I was still confused on how Michael could be the fnaf 4 protagonist but your video has convinced me! Thank you!

    I actually think that the Chica’s beak hint fits Michael having the dream perfectly; because we know that Fnaf2 is a prequel to Fnaf 1. There’s already a theory going around that Michael is the Fnaf 2 night guard we play as during custom night (Fritz Smith), so Mike very well could have seen the beak come off Chica and molding that into his dreams.

  • @nrudy
    @nrudy 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I like this as a narrative bow that incorporates the idea that Scott is revealing the protagonist. The only other explanation that makes sense to me based only on the first four games is a golden Freddy mask. Because I think it explains the last then remaining big piece of lore: who/what is golden Freddy? He's the ghost we see in the happiest day minigame for whom the party is thrown. He's golden freddy because he haunts the springlock suit and "putting the pieces together" is to make this connection. We basically knew everyone else and what they were, in terms of the scenario presented in the games. But I also like Foxy Mask for basically all the reasons you state in the video, very cool ideas.
    So, I think the reason dream theory was so persuasive is they are Michael's dreams and what Scott (and other olds like me) maybe recognize as a sly reference to St. Elsewhere gets taken as an explanation for the whole story.

    Scott being very disappointed by how the MatPat livestream turned out and then later making fun of dream theory during the lead up to UCN proves that dream theory was never meant to be canon or even close to accurate. This theory is a much better interpretation of the lore and the events that were happening around the time.

    You unlock the same characters in fnaf world update 2, and the new area in that update looks kinda like how I'd imagine the fall fest place looking like.
    And there's also the connections fnaf world has to the direction the franchise is going.

    I absolutely agree about the foxy mask being in the box. Limited only to the first 4 games, that's the only thing that makes sense. With the 4th game, the first 3's events got recontextualised and the story became to be about guilt and redemption.
    Foxy bro tried to forget his worst mistake by sealing the mask away. Then the guilt got the better of him and tried his best to lay his brother's soul to rest and after surviving fnaf1 and 3, he succeeds. I think 4 takes place during 1, it's the security guard, Mike's nightmares as his reality is slowly seeping into his guilt-ridden dream, hence the fnaf1 mechanics and the phone call.
    I'm not sure about 2, but 3 is also Mike, literally putting the pieces back together for the birthday party his brother never had.
    Also the line "some things are better left forgotten. For now." makes a lot of sense. Mike"forgot" his past until he had to face it "now".
    I think something like this was Scott's original intent with fnaf 4.

    I think the context of how we earn the box is also worth bringing up, cause it's during Night 7. After the Crying Child has died, Mike apologizes, and William promises to "put you back together". Night 7 is also the first night you face off against Nightmare as an antagonist, so he could connect to the nature of the Box. Then when we beat it and try to unlock the box it presents the text "some things are best left forgotten for now".
    Why do I think this context holds importance? To me at least, if Michael is our FNAF 4 protagonist having nightmare relapses of the experiment chamber, and we see in the logbook that he identified Nightmare Fredbear, with him and Nightmare also appearing in UCN. This to me could also mean Mike faced-off against Nightmare, and thus Night 7 of FNAF 4 is canon, mostly in relation to Mike's story arc.
    That would then fall into the Box being an item or idea important to Michael specifically. I think this box and its contents would reveal Scott's intention of making Foxybro the main protagonist from games 1-4, and that Mike!Dreamer and the interpretation that Mike has had PTSD Guilt Trauma Nightmares ever since the bite of '83 was the story FNAF 4 was trying to tell us. "Four Games. One Story" alongside "Do you know who the security guard is?" these hints were telling us the game was presenting us a protagonist, which Scott clarified in SL via Michael Afton/Eggs Benedict.
    So now what is in that box to me? A Badge for Mike being a general security guard (FNAF 1), A Freddy Mask to fool the '87 location characters (FNAF 2), a box of matches to burn down Fazbear's Fright (FNAF 3), and Mike's own Foxy mask from the day he killed his brother (FNAF 4). It's the pieces put together, the domino effect of a freak accident gone horribly wrong. This is why Nightmare is an antagonist in Night 7, he's the shadow of Mike's lingering guilt, his trauma from that event. The Aftermath. So Michael compartmentalizes those bad memories, in a literal box, to be forgotten, at least for now.
    This all ties into the theme of memory in FNAF all the way back in FNAF 1 when the unamed CEO says "In the hearts of children, these characters will live on" and it book-ending with Henry in FNAF 6 saying "This place will not be remembered, and the memory of all that took place here can finally begin to fade away, as the agony of every tragedy should."
    but that's JUST A THEORY, A BOX THEORY!!! Thanks for reading!

    Honestly I really like this idea! Since a lot of FNaF's core gameplay is Michael reliving these memories and piecing it all together, FNaF 4 being the turning point initially makes a lot of sense if it was meant as the conclusion to FNaF when it was created. I could also see this in parallel to the protagonist in Silver Eyes, Charlie. I know the books shouldn't be used as anything more than thematic evidence, which is why I won't be saying anything from them is canon evidence. Charlie relentlessly seeks her past, and ends up discovering a truth near the end of the books that brings into question her life and everything she did up to that point. She wasn't a human, her body was almost fully mechanical on the inside, and what does she find in her body? A memento of her past which proved previous assertions by baby correct, a doll that Henry put inside of her. Sounds a lot like someone who's had their innards replaced by mechanical parts. Michael is a husk after sister location, only driven by the trauma shaping his entire life up until this point. Driven for answers. Just like Charlie. I think it's a pretty clear indication of a connection at least. The box being something he's compartmentalized also thematically lines up with another character in the series; Vanny. She does the same exact thing to Glitchtrap, locking him away in a metal boxed prison, locking away something that could poison her mind if opened back up. A common trauma response is to compartmentalize those issues so that they cannot cause undue harm to a person's psyche. This also lines up with the conclusion of Dittophobia, the twisted outcome being that the protagonist thinks it's best to live in a false reality instead of confronting a mind-shattering truth. A lot of these ideas make me think that this holds a lot of merit, it's something Michael may not be able to process seeing again. Which is why the box is locked. And the Foxy mask parallels well with Help Wanted 2, feeling like a fitting answer. Bonnie Bro (the assumed protagonist of Help Wanted 2) is likely more able to open the chest because it wasn't his brother and he wasn't the one to put CC in the mouth of Fredbear himself. It is personal to him and probably hurts him greatly to see, but it isn't life-shattering like it would be if those actions associated with the mask shattered your home life and ended up destroying your entire family. Sorry if this all felt tangential, just wanted to make some thematic comparisons as to why an idea like this to wrap up the series with could have existed and could still live on in spirit. I'll never claim to be an expert about this series, so if I'm wrong about some stuff or overlooked something feel free to correct me. Thanks for the thought soup!

    I'm personally not convinced that Michael was meant to be the protagonist of all the games unless THAT was Scott's retcon. Because in my mind, Michael Afton/CC, or honestly the concept of William having children at all probably didn't even exist until FNAF 4 at the earliest and wasn't confirmed until Sister Location. Also I always felt that FNAF 2 was supposed to be while the MCI was happening, which I suppose doesn't exclude Michael from being the night guard in that game but to me it makes it far less likely. No doubt in my mind however that Michael is the protag of Sister Location and possibly even Pizzeria Simulator. I really like this theory even if I don't quite agree with all the pieces that got us here. Tying it to the newer games is really clever. As soon as you mentioned what would be something Michael would hide in shame, I immediately knew it would be the Foxy mask! What an interesting take. @@Mommacado Thank you! I'd like to share it here.
      I suspect that Fall Fest is going to turn out to be more important than we think. In Help Wanted 2, we have 2 mini-games set at Fall Fest: the shooting game with Carny and the carousel/merry-go-round with the Moon animatronic. At one point they are/have been set on fire. If I remember correctly, when looking out of bounds at the carousel, we see the fire leading to a barn that's on fire as well.
      One morning last week, I thought about that and then remembered something that was said during Ultimate Custom Night. I forget which specific animatronic it was(either Nightmare Chica or someone else), but they said, "Greeting from the fire, and the one you should not have killed." Back then, players and theorists figured that they meant the hell that is Ultimate Custom Night, the fire that happened in one of the endings for Pizza Simulator, or the fire from FNAF 3.
      Maybe back then, it was one of those three. However, I think that the fire will be revealed to be the fire of Fall Fest. I propose that this event is going to be where the child who becomes the Vengeful Spirit died.

    i'm so happy to see that i'm not the only one. i've thought this and even commented this on matpats video forever ago and when help wanted 2 chest revealed bonni bros mask my mind was like okay confirmed it was the mask the whole time and the box is just proving who we are playing as and locking away our guilt. i think my original comment was literally just "The foxy mask...." but back then yeah there really wasn't a lot of evidence for it until sister location came out and then i knew yes we are foxy bro and i agreed that it had to be something that was tangible and not just a concept. you can't put a concept in a box.. but you do put physical things in a box. you put memories and evidence of those memories in a box. my grandmas jewelry box holds the physical items that represent those memories and when you have a best friend sometimes you make a time capsule that is evidence of your friendship and cops put physical evidence in boxes for closed or cold cases. people keep trophies of their experiences and when they are important enough we box them up to protect them either from getting hurt or being lost or even discovered.

  • @Lanaestra

  • @Handlelesswithme
    @Handlelesswithme 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    I still say it was the CC or at least evidence that the CC was resurrected
    Given that Scott said “it was the pieces put together” and Fredbear/The Puppet said “I will put you back together” at Night 6
    Also since there is a bout 20 million Easter eggs to past games that takes place years after Fredbear’s shutting down perhaps it is to imply we are reliving a imperfect memory of whoever wa the Fnaf 1-3 night guard
    Fnaf world’s clock ending basically confirms this with the white eyes/puppet sounding like he is talking to both the Fnaf 3 security guard and the CC as if they are the same person
    (Also in the night we are the size of a child. Definitely not a teenager or young adult like Foxybro)
    (And the bedroom itself looks like a child’s bedroom with a purple toy phone/a caterpillar roller)
    Now the more darker parts of this theory is that the Puppet basically manipulated a child into thinking the only people that care about him are the possessed animatronics
    -Fredbear phrase “we are still your friends” “do you still believe that” makes me think he meant to say “we maybe wanting to unalive you but please help us cause you have no one”
    And a more meta level the Silver eyes was written\published pretty close to Fnaf 4
    -Yknow the book that implied heavily the main character is a robot of a resurrected person
    Another meta thing is in sister location it does have more evidence that the CC was a robot and Fredbear was William
    (The three robot heads in control, Elizabeth being in Circus Baby, the Immortal and the Restless, the secret Fredbear cameras)
    -I assume that was the retcon. He first wrote the story to say CC is a resurrected corpse and then later wrote it that CC is a robot
    There is even evidence in the later games that Michael was resurrected. In SL the voice actor for Michael was describe as to sound “broken” which is usually a description of the crying child
    In Help Wanted Curse of Dreadbear dlc we see the Fnaf 4 house, the Purple guy mobile, birthday cakes, masks(things from Fnaf 4) with the motif of the DLC being Dreadbear who is a spoof of Frankenstein’s monster
    -Perhaps there is a connection between Fnaf 4 and Frankenstein😮
    In Security Breach the implies that Michael is possessing Glamrock Freddy. If you upgrade Freddy he gets claws, a purple bow tie+glowing eyes making him look like nightmare Fredbear
    -also also in the Burntrap ending where he calls the Blob his friends is a lot like CC who though the plushies were his friends
    -and above that the secret tv Michael room looks like those closets Henry built to house Robot Charlie with the code on the wall sounding like instructions?

    Theres a fundamental oversight that hurts your theory. It's the same reason why I HATE this stinken box! Why does it have 2 locks. This is an intentional design choice. 2 locks would be redundant if one person had both keys. It has to refer to 2 people. But which 2 characters are our 2 key masters?
    The box would be SOOO much easier to solve. . . if it wasn't for those stupid double locks.

    • @Mommacado
      @Mommacado  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I didn't mention the number of locks because I own several similar boxes ranging in size from tiny to full on trunks and they all have two latches/two places for locks. I had just assumed they were all made this way.

    • @Hadeks_Marow
      @Hadeks_Marow 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@Mommacado The issue is. . . this isn't real life where "some lights are just purple". This is a mystery novel where every detail has intention behind it for the sake of giving the reader clues.
      That's why we can't just write details off in this series. Remember, this is a franchise where "toe counting" is a thing. I love how you paralleled it to the bonnie bro chest. . . but unlike the box, the chest had one lock. I think you were correct to draw that parallel, but the issue of "why does the box have 2 interactable locks" remains.

    • @Mommacado
      @Mommacado  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@Hadeks_Marow We'll have to agree to disagree :3
      Purple lights are an oddity, as lights are usually white or yellow. No one is being asked to explain why the flashlight shines white light, but if those flashlights suddenly turned purple that would need explained.
      Treasure chests are usually designed to have one lock, trunks are usually designed with two. Toe counts only matter because the SAME character can have a varying number of toes across the series.
      If Chica consistently had three and the others consistently had four it wouldn't need explaining beyond the fact that birds are usually depicted with less "toes" (talons) than other creatures.
      If we all got stuck in a loop of having to explain even the details that are completely normal and expected, no one would be releasing videos as that's kind of impossible to do.
      I also want to clarify that I'm not writing off the theory that the locks might each be opened with a different key, therefore requiring two people. It's an interesting concept and it's possible.

    • @Hadeks_Marow
      @Hadeks_Marow 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Mommacado I guess that's fair. Your rationality is based on pattern recognition exclusively if I am understanding your reasoning correctly about "selectivity". And by that appropriation, any datapoints that aren't part of a dataset (meaning random one-off details like the number of box locks) are irrelevant then I suppose? I guess I could see that argument. It's just a different way of looking at the series than what I am used to is all.

    the box was open by freadbear plush in fnaf world to help the crying child moved on, but of course he didn't and doesn't want it, is too late for him, his father william afton was able insert a lot of things into his head
    i sure the box its 100% connected to freadbear plush
    so my question is who is at control of freadbear plush?
    its likely being elizabeth, but there so much references that show being cassidy, and fews being charlie, and some being william
    i am sure 100% that elizabeth is a robot made to replace a kid died in the circus
    the question is who she was made to replaced, charlie or cassidy
    if its cassidy, its mean its the real daughter of william afton and she is one helping the others as shadow bonnie, and william is trying since the beginning to bring her back

    Something important to remember that you mentioned is that FNaF 4 was meant to be the last, so the story has to be able to be solved within itself and the first three games; the later entries cannot tell us the original story of 4. The issue with the foxy mask is that the concept of Michael didn't exist until Sister Location. As of 4, foxy bro wouldn't seem to have a motive to be the security guard in the first three games. It was SL that gave that motive. Without the whole backstory of Michael, how would we have ever pieced together that foxy bro was using fake names to get jobs as security guards to free the spirits of the children that he wouldn't know exist? How would we know that crying child was even related to purple guy (because William Afton was not name dropped yet)? It's an interesting theory, but doesn't fit in without the context of later entries imo.
