I actually didn't like the music but it kind of grew on me as I listened to the masterful teachings one of the last great Neo Platonists. Thanks for the upload bro!

This was most excellent, I really enjoyed your presentation and I loved the music, too. As a person interested in neoplatonism, it evokes the magic of the topic. In a way, it is like modern theurgy, helping to focus the topic in a glorious ambience. Cheers!

That’s nice to hear thanks! So often ppl just diss the background music but a lot of thought goes into the pairings thxs! You def caught onto my intention.

For real spot on, all lectures need light background music, makes a world (of forms) of difference

This is a great presentation of a fascinating topic, but the music is very unnecessary and distracting.

Some ppl don’t like the quieter side background music in lectures, and other ppl, like myself😂, enjoy the mood aspect and usually the music is content related, although I don’t have time currently to give all the credits. I say on my homepage if lectures with music doesn’t work for you, you may not get super into my channel (which is here for my work at present anyway). Glad you like some of the content tho thanks!

Thank you for the slides however since I can read without sound 🙏🏾

I like Athena Sigil’s comment here about the music being theurgic ambiance. I guess I should have known that the music would divide listeners. It comes down to taste in music and lectures with or without it. Also, I must admit to being loathe to edit these things without a soundtrack.🥲

@@mathiaswarnes6350 perhaps upload one with sound and one without? The scholarship here is sound and their is a drought of quality information on Neoplatonism online.

@@mathiaswarnes6350I know it has been a year, but I would very much appreciate if you ever uploaded a version without the music. It is a shame because I am really enjoying your lecture for what it is but the music is extremely distracting and makes it hard to get through

This is all very interesting, but what is the text book mentioned? Didn’t see it in description or may have missed it if mentioned. Anyway back to the video.

Just a point, it was Jung who stated that the goal was to make the unconscious conscious, not Freud. "Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate." -- Jung

@@mathiaswarnes6350 I can only imagine how much time and effort it takes to make a presentation like this. It has a lot of information with little fluff. Respect! It is sad but it seems philosophy doesn't get the attention it deserves. I am an addict ;) Especially Hermeticism, Neoplatonism, Kabbalah, Gnosticism. I love this line of thought. Good luck!! Keep it up! Your video will be there for years to come.

This is great. Will you be making more videos on neoplatonism?

    • @mathiaswarnes6350

Thank-you! I would love to, but it kinda depends on my teaching schedule (at least for the near future). This was a one week unit in a 15 week course on Ancient Philosophy. Next semester, it's back in person all week. Having done all these survey videos for the many courses I teach, it would be fantastic to keep going, producing more specialized content. But I would probably need a new job or a well supported patreon for that lol. Neoplatonism, along with Greek and World myth, and European literature are high on the list of areas I'd like to keep making videos for, so it's likely, but not for a while. The best Neoplatonism podcast material I know of is by Earl Fontaneille on his website schwep.net. He's really just going for it and it's his specialty. Amazing.
