E46 is a great car, especially if you enjoy maintaining it yourself. If you're one of those people who who know nothing about cars or don't want to ever check oil levels or do anything other than bring it to a garage once a year for MOT and oil change, this is not the car for you.

You forgot to mention this, have your VIN, call your BMW dealer and give them your VIN so they can see if front driver and passenger airbags are changed or not because E46-E39 cars are affected by this. The airbag company TAKATA had factory fault/design with shoot metal pieces to the driver’s and passenger’s face when activated. Instant 200km/h straight to your face. Keep doing videos

Um ok... oil filter housing gasket leak, oil pan gasket leak, water pump leak, expansion tank crack, top and bottom hose leak, front control arms fail, sagging roof lining, air lines crack and leak.... love my e46

My little 318ci is great and I’ve replaced a lot on her but the o my thing that I’m not doing myself is the timing cover gasket. I was going to get a private ref but looks like that money is going to the repair now

what MAF sensor does your car use, my 330ci used BREMI brand as that was the original OE when it was bought new. but i heard other 330ci also use seimens/VDO MAFS to, i think these car depending on the year manufacture date use specific MAF sensors. also 325ci and 330ci can not use same maf, they are not interchangeable due to different motor setup.
just about to swipe my credit card for a 2004 e46 330 ci sport convertible to be my run around to save my c63s from a brutal daily commute of start stop traffic. the interior is well and truly battered but the engine and exterior seem in good condition . thanks for the video, very useful mate !

@@thatbimmerkid6073 as my wife is going to drive it , I had to go with an auto unfortunately. it is quite a decent transmission for pottering along for my daily commute . It will hopefully save my other car around 3 to 4 k of urban mileage annually .. I would have loved a manual.
Go get it its one of the best I have 330ci 2006 and it runs very well I like the styling and so far its been good to me..
Awesome video man, just bought my first e46 and so far I love it, it is an 01 330ci auto and, other then a few cosmetic issues like the rust you mentioned it is a solid car, spent $1400.00 to buy it and have another $250.00 to bring it back to life.

The man before but on 265s on the back, and the arches rubbed. Be sure to check there’s no more than 255s on the back otherwise will make a bad noise and damage the arch liners
I bought a 2001 330ci vert at 77k and drove it for 3 years and you are so right. I had to change the rocker cover gasket twice, window regulator and motor had to be changed twice aswell, not to mention a million other issues. These cars are not worth having unless you do your research into their issues and this is a great video to underline a few.
Jesus you must've treated it like shit lol. I've had mine for 2 years and only had to get new switches for the windows and basic things like replacing turn signal lights
Same here with both e46’s I’ve owned. And i looked after them extremely well. They always needed something fixing. Easy to diy most of the time but got sick of it after a while.

I own an e46 330i I bought it because after a ban I couldn’t (or be fucked) to insure another Porsche, my car comes under classic insurance so it’s dirt cheap to insure! I have a great mate who is a mechanic and has been re-mapped it goes like “shit off a shovel” if you want a sports car that can shift, this is a beautiful bit of kit!!!👍

I enjoy mine alot but I would just buy a 330 if you want to tune it because it has more potential, the 320ci is just for enjoying the straight six sound, all I did is fit a carbon airbox to it for the intake noise
Question for 330ci owners, when your cars been on for a while and you lift the bonnet does yours always feel very hot?. Yes temp gauge it smack in the middle mine always seems hot compared to other cars I’ve owned
I have a 318ci (yes I know its not the same as a 330) and its usually hot as well after being on for a while and kinda has a burnt smell compared with other cars. Its always like that and more that now we are in summer but I guess its something normal

It seems some of you know nothing I've been a mechanic/mechanical engineer/car technician for 15 years I've worked on more of these cars then I've had hot diners all the problems you all mention I've come across them all but gess what the cars still run and in the fifteen years I've worked on cars the only other car I've seen do this is the 2004 mondeo. these 330ci engines are like tanks

Underpowered, heavy on fuel. I would Rather get a 2 litre diesel m sport mate cheaper to run and more power and more gains via remap.
Aswell as the radiator warping, oxygen sensors, visa valve, propshaft coupling, differential bush, coolant tank, steering resovoir leak, all the subframe bushes, ccv basically everything after 100k goes all plastic piping what im tryna say dont buy an e46 buy a pushbike 5 e46s down nothing but problems they drain your bank account
Drive my 2001 Ci daily. The areas you point out are issues on any car. Hang out in an auto repair place for awhile and you'll see those are all the norm for almost everything.

If your buying an e46.. DO NOT GET THE 1.9 M43 engine. Avoid at all costs lol. Terrible engine barely puts out 102hp not even brake and drinks like a whale

Funny stuff i test drove one and yeah the brakes are pretty bad and It felt pretty slow but i couldn't really go over 3k rpm because the owner was in the car lol

They are excellent if a 6 cylinder model..Odd silly little issue here and there mostly caused by those buy these to abuse the life out of them. If find one thats cared for serviced and kept in proper order you wont go wrong

Not really lol compared to newer cars. Parts are cheap, ive owned my 330ci for 4 years now, 160k on the clock and its had no major issues.
Iv had a 330 and a 325, spent £3000 on the 330 and £6000 on the 325, all maintenance issues. But I still loved both cars. Saloons not coupes. The clubsport is especially nice if you can find one.
