I hope you had more to hydrate with than 1 can of 7up. Sounds like it was a hike! I would have brought something more to dig with but it seems like you found enough! Congrats on 45! You got 3 years on me.
That dendritic opal is gorgeous Nate! Im glad you could find it again. It is really beautiful. The colors and the dendrites in it make it really unique for common opal, and really sought after for jewelery! and some of your pieces were quite large and looked to be fairly solid and without as many fractures as one would expect for a common opal that has been through the intense heat cycles and fires that area has been through. But you had it fairly protected and i think you really need to go back, with geopicks and shovels, at the least, and another person for sure. Now that you have your cache out of there, it will go faster with help and since it sounds like it isnt an easy trek to get to the area, having another person you trust, will make the heavy digging much easier, because you cant just go back tomorrow and pickup, without so serious hiking to get there. But i believe, after that last nodule you found, that there is much more there, waiting to be discovered. After All, this is a quest! Thank you for sharing and i cant wait to see this material cleaned up, and to see what you do with it. And i look forward to see if you find a helper and if you go back to that area and search under ground!
Pine sap is very beautiful..It is a natural antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, and astringent that treats and bandages wounds like a two-for-one. The softer sap can even be chewed like gum for colds and sore throats. Pine sap can also serve as a waterproofing for seams in boots, boats, and containers.
I love that you look for new spots that aren't on the rock hound radar!!!! Awesome finds too, got to be happy with a big bag of material to play with. Cant wait to see what you make with it 🤘🤪🤘
Hello! I look this Very cool expedition you made, relaxed in my hamac. Common opale are one of my favorites ever. Especialy de dandritics in the Pink, white and green one. Thank you for all this Nice work in your beautiful California land. 🤗⛅✨
I wish I had friends that do cool stuff like this to hang out with. I don’t know anyone else that is interested in geology. I found a lot of cool gems and stones when I was living in Germany 2020 to March of 2022. I also see you carry the Buck 119 special. Classic.
Oh 🚶♂️ what a journey. I was fortunate to receive a few chunks of dendritic opal. Beautiful stuff Nate..happy you found the spot.. hydration... definitely needed. The dendritic opal is beautiful. Envious as normal.
Hi Nate. Is the pine sap the same as copal, or a different species of tree? Will you please make a follow up video on how you'll be cleaning the pieces of opal and cutting, shaping? Isn't it risky to tumble? It would be greatly appreciated to see the final opals glowing in their beauty🤗 Thank you for all your time and work making this video.
Yes tumbling can bust it all up, might just do the fragments already too small for other purposes, the larger we will slab and shape into things, I'll show it all for sure! Thanks for watching!
Hey Nate, what a fun discovery! Looks like it’s been about 7 months since you’ve found the opal. I would love to know if your going back soon? We’ve had so much rain, more treasures probably have been exposed. Those dendrites are beautiful. Those hills are similar to what is in Livermore. Loved exploring them when I was younger.
Theres beautiful blue boulder opal here and there near diamonds if you leave trail. I was all over area before i heard you were neighbor. Sorry if i took anything you were saving
Without telling where you are collecting the common opal, I do know that when you are on federal land you do need a mining claim filed, if only to protect yourself and have the right to remove the opal and keep everyone else from moving in on your find. Love your videos. Keep up the good work.
It's good idea for sure to file a claim sometimes.here unless it was a bigger strike, I probly won't try to claim it. otherwise I'm allowed my daily 15 lbs ( for personal use) if I was mining for profit is where the permit comes in . Just collecting still, prospecting. And hoping it's worth claiming...that would be nice🙂 hope spring eternal, thanks for watching!
@@richardcummings7079 for sure, im jealous! maybe you had a chance to see , I found a spot just off the road for those also , just black ones none of the colored , but its right there north of town bottom of the lake. let me know if you want better directions ,or you might already know it. email is calluseyed@gmail.com
@@QuestForDetails we can only get a permit for the day we ask for it, unless you come in on a Friday and they give a permit for the weekend. It closes on the 1st of September. Only open 2 months out of the year now. Guess there's been a lot of shady people up there tearing everything up, cutting lock and basically trashing the place. Only allowed one 5 gal bucket per person now. All it takes is one to screw it up for everyone else. I might just take you up on the offer though.
How much jewelry did you make from this beautiful opal find. After you cut and tumble it I mean. The stones are always so interesting and I am so curious about what is made of them afterwards.
Had the same exact find probably same area but different location. Still just been taking whats easy to see, haven't even hunted yet. Black green yellow white translucent. Noticed small white chips around big raised area in dirt running down from peak. Did two trips but moving soon. Willing to share location with you before i leave. Or i can leave marker for you at main trail near parking
Congratulations. There are more than one seam and vein out there I wont ever make it back to to continue working. Im never discovering out my precious claims let alone go get new ones after the Chrysocolla. Polishing with cerium seals the opals if they are not too crazy by nature.
Never hunted for opal (yet), so really enjoyed the journey you took us on Nate. Now my mouth is watering to see the results after a bit of tumbling. Quest On!
Hello my friend ! I don't sell yet but when I start shipping I can send you a piece for your collection. I'll make a note ,there are a few old friends I need to ship some to, need to learn how to send overseas , and soon I'll be in a place where I can mail stuff out. Thanks for watching!

The mountain man found his cache...is it surprising to anyone? Good on ya Nate 🙌
It’s awesome to see some gems in Napa’s backyard. That’s awesome! I live in sonoma. If you ever want some help! Shoot me a message.
Hi Nate ,,,,,lucky you ! hope you find some red.
They have blue opals up at Mount Shasta. They don't really look like opals but they are beautiful stones

Great looking material Nate, that should keep you busy for a little while. 👍Keep Safe
Nice rocks. I hope you can return. I was surprised how brown the grasses were. Lack of rain, I guess.
@QuestForDetails I think a 2023 winter/spring return to probe for the vein is in order, eh? 👍 Did you ever tumble or otherwise work this material? ❤
Amazing! I didn't know pine sap has vitamin C. I like to collect it too. I love common opal
