- Rishi Sunak became Britain’s next prime minister after Boris Johnson pulled out of the Conservative Party leadership race to replace Liz Truss, who resigned after just 44 days following economic turmoil.
With the endorsement of over 170 conservative MPs, Sunak - who served as Chancellor under Johnson - has taken over the top job.
The only other challenger, Penny Mordaunt, had the backing of fewer MPs and did not muster enough support for a head-to-head challenge. A candidate needed nominations from at least 100 MPs to stand in the race.
Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson had raced home from a holiday in the Caribbean to try and secure the backing of 100 legislators to enter the contest to replace Truss, the woman who succeeded him in September after he was forced to quit over a string of scandals, but hopes of a return were dashed upon a realization his colleagues would not unite behind him as a leader.

Larry might as well be the next prime minister, he’ll do very well.
Well, he has more experience and seems to have his claw on the pulse! (Plus he's been there longer than most of the recent tenants at #10 also. Surely that helps?).

I think the strength of Larry's longevity and continued reign at Number 10 is that he doesn't inject himself into politics, rather he projects a calm and reassuring presence for the benefit of the British people.
Number 10 is *Larry's* house. He has a full staff, responsible for keeping him clean comfy and well-fed. Those people in suits are just visitors.
Or one could say these days they are just guests.

Traffic around #10 is very light, slow, and tightly controlled for security reasons. Sir Lawrence will likely be just fine.

Very unlikely. Larry's already 15, which towards the upper end of a domestic cat's life expectancy. Cats do occasionally live to 25 or older, but it's _very_ rare.

Well due to the age and questionable construction methods used to build Downing Street there is a significant rat problem, which is why cats have been employed by the government since the PM moved there. The current role is roughly 100 years old.

I have made the same point so many times with regards to the Sunaks and their superstitions.
Larry should be looked after AND he does not belong to Dubai to do as he wishes.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Larry has his own security detachment (MI5?). Larry is an island of stability in a sea of chaos. Larry is also a symbol of British strength: no fox, cat, dog, or mouse gets past him - unless authorized (VERY British). Also, being 15 is an asset for a British leader - the older they get, the stronger they seem to become.
I also suspect happy cats like a lot of human attention, and every time I watch a video of Larry, it seems like 20 DSLR cameras are clicking away. Larry seems happy and confident.
