Leigh, Joe King here in Florida. I was one of your students before you set up your latest video class session. At the time we corresponded and I encouraged you to charge a fee for your help. You were reluctant to do it saying it was very hard to get potential students to pony up any money much less a monthly tuition. I’m glad your doing it now. Ive been away from music and Genos but am trying to get going again and likely will become a club member on some level. In this video on registrations you mention at the start that you don’t copy over “Transpose” explaining you will cover the reason later in the video. However you never touched on the reason and since I do Transpose being a singer, I was wondering why. Did I miss something? Thanks Leigh.
Hi Leigh, all is well here. Just got Home from a Thanksgiving dinner with my daughter and find myself stuffed with holiday goodies. Ham, turkey, marshmallow sweet potato’s, cranberry sauce, mashed potato’s, topped off with a generous slab of pumpkin and apple pie, with a side of double chocolate mousse cheesecake and a Guinness beer to complete the trip to a sinful hell! Thanks for remembering me by the way. Right now I’m attempting to refresh myself on the basic operations of Genos. Sadly if you lay off the routine of playing you tend to forget things you thought you’d never forget. Some of the tricks are so basic I’m embarrassed to even tell you I’ve forgotten who's on first. Another really great, and user friendly learning experience!!! Thank you again Leigh!!! My PSR S975 has almost all of those features, but no touch screen info panel. You make everything sooooo easy to understand!!! Thank you sir!!!
Thank you! I actually have a Yamaha PSR-SX700 and was very confused about registration banks. My keyboard and the Genos are almost identical in this functionality so I have finally managed to save my own "song" with your help.
Thanks Leigh for another informative video. I do think that the Registration facility is the most powerful tool on the Genos. I set up a bank of registrations for each individual song in much the same way as you have shown in your demonstration, but I set up the bank in the User section and copy across to a USB as back up. I have set up two folders in Registrations - "WORK FOLDER" (for songs I'm working on) and "COMPLETED FOLDER" (copied from "WORK" when I'm happy with the end result) . I also include the "Transpose " function when setting up my registration. I find it gives a smooth transistion when playing. I look forward to your video on the "Playlist" function. Best regards.
Many thanks for a superb tutorial, it was so easy to understand and I loved your guitar demo as well. The whole video was a joy to watch and it made clear a problem that has plagued me since I bought my Genos. I'm looking forward to watching your playlist video next. Kind regards Jack.
Excellent job!! I just asked you for this yesterday, and you already have it posted!! Amazing!! Loved the file management aspect! Now if you could explain the one touch settings, and how you use them and find them useful for ;-) And how you might use in combination with the registrations. Keep up the great work!

Great video Leigh. I'm wondering if there is any way you can see on the screen the contents of the registration sounds by name. For example, if I have Sax in Reg1, Guitar in Reg2, Trumpet in Reg 3, how do I see before I press the registration button, what sound I'm going to get? My apologies if it's obvious. I haven't received my Genos 2 yet.
Was just watching this great video again! I always learn something each time! Question. Do you offer drum loops that are easily used in Multipads? I love using mutual pads for quick access to a drum loop, but what comes with GENOS is a very small choice.. Keep up the great work Leigh !!

Very clear video, I had not got my head around Registrations but this is helpful. I was afraid I would delete items already on Genos but this makes it easier to understand. I have a few questions popping into my mind. You chose Voice 1, I think for each highlighted. Other voices 2 & 3 were there but I think you had not highlighted them, also the Left Voice, so my question there is, will they save also when they are not highlighted and is it a case that if you want to add those into one of your registrations you do that if you wish to have two instruments playing at same time? Also I don't seem to have PopBallad 6-8, am I missing a download where that is included or was it an extra purchase?
Hi. Everything is saved when you save a registration. Picture it like a photo of your keyboard. The style is available as a download from Yamaha Genos page - look for Yamaha downloads and it’s in the Sx900 styles for Genos. Hope I’ve been able to help.
Thanks a lot for this video. I am interested in how to make playlists. Is it necessary to make a registrations before that? I can't wait for the next video.
I seem to remember reading (probably in a user manual) of deleting and/or moving the registrations within a single bank but I cannot remember how to do it! This was on the T5 but it must be doable on the Genos too, surely? (I have the SX900, btw. I have checked the manual but cannot find it again!)
Leigh, is it at all possible to assign two pedals of Boss FS-6 Dual Foot Switch so that one moves up the 1-10 registaration buttons and the other one goes down within one specific song? When I check it in Genos1 I dont see such option to choose from (in the Assignable - Registration) . There are Registaration+ and Registration- options to choose but these refer to going up and down between specific songs I guess, like the physical buttons on the panel. Sorry I can verify this as I see to struggle with proper functioning of the pedal that I have for now.
Hello Leigh, Very interesting tutorial. I do not yet own a Genos but have been exploring Genos training videos on TH-cam. Watching the videos, even from a single author, reminds me of entering an ongoing party. One group of persons is discussing, say, “Registration memory” and another “Direct access”. I may understand a given conversation (e.g. a TH-cam video) but without a larger picture of how the pieces work together (dare we call it Genos “architecture”?) I will likely leave the party more puzzled than ever. What’s a good place to join the Genos party? Should I download the owner’s manual, read it thoroughly, then go through your series of videos? Or should I buy a Genos, and expect to hit my head against the wall, as existing tutorial documentation may not offer me a step-by-step, coherent, guide to how to use the hardware? Or maybe find a Genos "teacher" thar offers online lessons to get started? Once my Genos foundation is in place, I'm certain the Genos TH-cam videos will become more valuable to me. Bill
Thanks Leigh - I am wondering though why you don't have 'transpose' tick in a registraton save. You mention you will explain later but perhaps I missed it. My question is why? Thanks
Hi Leigh - Is there a way to save a playlist song style to Registration memory. I know that we must always use the USB for the Yamaha playlist that is for Genos. But if there are 1 or 2 song styles I want from the oldies can we save this into Registration memory?? knowing the USB still has to be inserted ??
Please prepare a tutorial for the Genos2 that shows how to take a pdf of a lead sheet with chord symbols and lyrics, covert it to a midi file, and get that midi file as a song on to the Genos2 that displays the sheet music with chords and can be played on the Genos2. I realize that this may require software to covert the pdf to midi and would appreciate learning the proper software for that purpose. Yamaha has done this for a single song (Red River Valley) on the Genos2, but does not provide in the manuals any help for how this is done.
Just came on board with your video on using registrations. Just one thing missing and maybe its because i do not understand. When you complete your first registration how do you clear the lights on the regustration just completed? And, the other question i have is when using the OTS buttons, why is the the left part always off? I can manually turn it on, but it goes off when changing to another setting.

At that moment i can't change sound cauze the sound become stronger. I discussed with the Store where I've buyed the Genos from and they say that I'm the only one with this problem and they can't fix it cauze they don't know how. I discussed with electricians and musicians and they say that it can be the Electricity problem in the Restaurants i play. Cauze i don't have this problem at home , only when play outside. I'm ashamed cauze i don't find other solution so i must buy one other tiny keyboard for right hand only.. that's tragi/comedy that i have the best keyboard and need to buy other to be sure at stage that it won't happen. Maybe some regulator for electricity will help to me?
