  • Kekuhi is an educator trained in the tradition of Hula ʻAihaʻa & Hula Pele, chant & ritual under Hālau O Kekuhi, named for her grandmother, Edith Kekuhi Kanakaʻole, and ritually elevated to the status of Kumu Hula (hula master) of Hālau O Kekuhi by her mother, Kumu Hula Pualani Kanahele, and aunt, Kumu Hula Nalani Kanakaole. She has coproduced some of Hālau O Kekuhi’s most significant contributions to oral and ritual arts stage performances. One of Kekuhiʻs passions is strengthening the relationship between Hawaiʻi ecological wisdom and scientific wisdom. Kekuhi served as the Senior Scholar at the Kohala Center for 20 years and has the honor of working with some of Hawaii’s most passionate committed conservation and restoration organizations, individuals, and initiatives. Kekuhi continues to facilitate ways of improving how Hawaiʻi consciousness and science & technology can work in harmony. Kekuhiʻs message in this effort is: “I Ola ʻOe, I Ola Mākou Nei.” Kekuhi is an educator trained in the tradition of Hula ʻAihaʻa & Hula Pele, chant & ritual under Hālau O Kekuhi, named for her grandmother, Edith Kekuhi Kanakaʻole, and ritually elevated to the status of Kumu Hula (hula master) of Hālau O Kekuhi by her mother, Kumu Hula Pualani Kanahele, and aunt, Kumu Hula Nalani Kanakaole. I had the privilege of working with Kekuhi and her mother, Aunty Pua, serving with them on committees, when I taught at Hawai'i Community College. I don't know how I could possibly express adequately how much I love this talk.

🤯 mind blowing. Mahalo Kumu Kekuhi for the ‘ike and aloha you share with us. Many of us who were born and/or raised in Hawaii feel these things inside of us but never know how to put it to spoken word. To hear these things that just seem to make more and more sense is so impactful and really, life changing. Mahalo.
