What i love... even tho Dale is joking about Jeff staying on the track. The second he realizes Jeff had crashed, he immediately changes that grin to a concerned face. He was a good man.
Taylor the great thing about Dale was he cared about the sport and most of the other drivers. He would propose ideas to help the sport not just himself.
Two of my favorite drivers, Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt. Seeing this killed me. “Ain’t to smart.” 😂😂 but also as soon as he crashed dale looked worried. Did y’all see how quick his head turns to see if he’s okay?
There certainly was some good natured ribbing between the 2 of them at times, but it was never anything malicious. They clearly had a lot of respect for one another.
CoolDL not really Earnhardt HAD to respect respect Gordon when he started whipping everyone's ass. In Gordon's early years Dale Sr. was pretty hard on Gordon about him being a little high voice wimpy gay, as if he was joking but not really.. Nothing really funny about it. I bet it ate at Dale Sr. when Gordon started to win everything. After awhile I'm sure Dale Sr. conceded to the fact that Gordon was just better than him and maybe he was last his true prime. I'm assuming a lot but I think I could very well be right.
Wipe your mouth before you say something like that about Dale, fella. Out of a racecar, he was a gentleman. What you said absolutely doesn't make any sense at all.
Dale Sr. being the voice of experience there. Early on in his career he would have been the one all eager to be out on the track in questionable conditions and having a moment like that. I doubt if even he could have saved that one. It doesn't matter how talented a driver is, you can't teach experience, you've just got to earn it over time...
I helped Dale Sr. out once a long time ago when I was working for an upscale hotel. I wasn't big into NASCAR at that time and didn't know who he was. He never came across to me as a "Look At Me I'm Someone" person pretty much down to earth and needed help.
There hasn't been any really good racing since Dale and Jeff. I thought Junior might be able to carry it on, but he changed after he was badly burnt in the Corvette. He didn't drive as hard as he had before.
I was there when this happened. Our group was parked outside turn four waiting for the infield to open after time trials. We were listening to this broadcast on a hand held scanner. At the same moment Jerry Punch said "He slips and slides..." we all turned our attention to the wall and you could hear Gordon hit it along with seeing the dust and dirt he kicked up.
It's kind of neat though knowing you guys were there. As I'm watching Gordon walk down the track, I'm picturing you guys discussing it underneath the track.
Yes he was - Nascar is deathly afraid of rain. A little wet from the skies and they all become pussies. Moto GP (motorcycles going over two hundred-twenty mph) race in the rain and they're on two wheels and don't have cages around them. Then there's Irish Road Racing (look 'em up on TH-cam) who'll race in the rain (at over two hundred mph) with trees, walls and buildings to contend .
Not so much the rain but the show on rain tires would be complete shit. Not that one can tell the difference anymore anyways. NASCAR racing is dying and will be gone soon.
Good memories, thanks for the upload. Looks like it wasn't raining in 3 & 4 on his warm-up lap, then it was coming down next time he went through there.
A simple fact of Earnhardt using his many years of knowledge and experience in this one. While Jeff Gordon was setting the world on fire, there still were some mistakes as we are all human. In this one, experience trumped youth and vigor.
Two elite drivers from two totally different backgrounds and personalities. We likely will never see this type of thing again. Nascar had so much personality in the 90's.
What should have been obvious is the lack of safety in Nascar. Back in the old days, when someone was in a wreck, everyone was really concerned, because they knew, a wreck could be fatal, now when a wreck, even a hard crash happens, no one says "keep your fingers crossed" or "hes moving around, looks ok" cause its not a real issue anymore. If everytime someone crashes, you are holding your breath, something needs to be done. If something was done sooner, people like Neil Bonnet, Kenny Irwin, Adam Petty, Dale Earnhardt and others wouldnt have died.
TOPGUNCANADA00 Well, on that note, Dale didn't have a Chase for the Cup to screw him out of 3 of his championships, unlike Jeff. As in, yes, Jeff would have 7 championships if it weren't for the Chase. However, Jeff was younger in this video, so being dumber should be expected, you know.
You keep thinking Jeff would've had 7, if that makes you feel better. He probably thinks the same thing. You Gordon fans need to compare Jeff with Jimmie before you can compare him to Dale.
Cars sounded better back then. Also the audio seems to have been better back then as well. Now when they show the cars wrecking you can't hear the tires crying.
He was still just a kid pretty much, in his early 20's still! I miss these days, NASCAR was actually good back then, now it's just a joke. Earnhardt and Gordon made it fun.
I remember hearing that an Indy car driver went out with rain threating, the other drivers figured the track would postpone qualifying until the next day. this guy went out and on the final lap, he was beating rain all the way down the back stretch. then the rain cut loose, He had won the pole for the Indy 500, no other cars were allowed out on the track. Jeff grew up in Indiana hearing those stories.
Not trying to pick on Jeff Gordon........but that was priceless. By golly........Dale was right.......and look what happened right after he said it. Did I say this was priceless???
Yes they did so I had to look and found the video so easily. No sound though. Gordon said it was one of his hardest hits and seemed pretty pissed when he got out of the car. It was a hard hit and he walked away from it.
And then in the backup car, he set the fastest time in second round qualifying, led the most laps in the race, and finished 3rd behind the Labonte brothers
Idk I didn't see a rooster tail off of Gordon's car in the replay but I did notice going into 3 the track was shiny, and asphalt gets like that when it's wet.
The mistake wasn't taking the conditions too aggressively. The mistake was getting in the car in the first place and driving out of the pits. Difference between a rookie and experienced in any field. Some of the biggest blunders have been the leader racing someone that is 3 laps behind.
I miss NASCAR, the "racing" we have today isn't NASCAR! Don't believe me? Watch any race and notice how empty the stands are! It's pretty bad when tracks like Daytona and Bristol have empty seats! It used to be impossible to get seats at Bristol, they were sold out a year in advance! Brian France has destroyed this once great sport, Earnhardt and all the old school racers that are no longer with us would be rolling in their graves! Even Bill France Sr. and Jr. are probably shaking their heads at what Brian has done to their empire!
Steve Anderson ... Any time one of those cars start up and enter the track... it's a wreck waiting to happen. I never really cared for Jeff Gordon but I won't disrespect his abilities. He was one helluva driver and I'll give him credit... he may not have been too smart when this happened but at least he was smart enough to know when to call it quits unlike his mentor Dale.
What year was that? I was at the qualifying, my grandmother wasn't able to tickets to the race... But I was there when it happened... I was 10-15 years old
How the points system SHOULD be: Season divided into four quarters of about nine races each. Each driver must drop one result per quarter. For instance Racer X crashes and finishes 32nd at Daytona. He's typically not too good at Daytona anyway, so he keeps the lousy finish. But he's tough at Atlanta. He finishes poorly there and drops that result from his 9-race total (the decision would have to be made at the end of the race, not at the end of the 9-race "quarter"). The result being that every driver gets to drop four lousy finishes. That would make for a lot of drivers within striking distance of the championship at the end of the year. How many times has the Cup been determined by a driver having one or two bad finishes?
Nope, that was another mandatory thing the deaths in NASCAR brought along. There were 2 in one year (both at New Hampshire where they had 2 races a year) One was Adam Petty, I can't for the life of me think of who it was that drove the #28 car that died the same year at the 2nd race, and then a year or so later Earnhardt died. (I may have my years mixed up, I didn't google anything i'm going off straight memory) I was only about 13-14 when Earnhardt died.
Joey Griffin I'm pretty sure having to get into the ambulance didn't become a thing until years later when concussions were brought to light as a serious concern.
Jeff and Dale Sr were rivals only in front of the fans and on TV . They invested and started CHase Authentics the clothes and nascar product company and when they sold it they both made over 100 million together
Watching this makes me realize..Nascar didn't die with Dale Earnhardt, in fact it put more eyes on Nascar bc everyone knew who he was and if he could die it kinda got everyone's eyes on the sport.. it certainly didn't help in the long run but really what has killed Nascar is everything they've done since to make it safer.. plus all the rules they kept changing as well as the silly chase points system that no one likes and stage racing that really killed it.. That hurts the racing, Nascar is trying too hard to appeal to the casual race fan, but most race fans are die hard fans..basically just bad leadership by Nascar.. I'm not saying Nascar should be just like it was in the 70s or 80s.. I get it things evolve but my point is it was fine in the mid to late 2000's and they just kept changing and changing everything around trying to get more ppl to watch, which only drove ppl away..I mean this in no disrespect but the sport was popular enough in the 90's and 2000s to keep going even without Earnhardt.. Earnhardt and Gordon had grew its popularity so much it had such a bright future and there was no stopping it from succeeding for many years, in fact the fact that they are in such bad shape now is a testament to how bad Nascar has really drove away their fans.. They really had a great thing going 10 or 12 yrs ago, mostly owed to THIS era.. they had the world watching, then they just threw it all away by trying to grow the sport unrealistically.. Nothing wrong with growth/ progess but to just be greedy and unrealistic and drive away fans exponentially is crazy.. Obviously its not just 1 reason that caused the popularity decline its alot of things, but mostly Nascars bad decisions by Brian France..back then these chevy's ran small block 2's which were real engines that came in cars unlike today which are race only engines, thats why they sound different. Therexwas no chase back then. Also no Toyotas back then, too much has changed even from eras after this like the mid 00's for example.. Watching these old clips is just more proof..
For you Gordon haters out there, you have to give it to him...he has always walked away from Daytona alive. And it didnt take him 20 years to win there either
What i love... even tho Dale is joking about Jeff staying on the track. The second he realizes Jeff had crashed, he immediately changes that grin to a concerned face. He was a good man.

Jeff and dale were friends, dale gave him a bunch of tips and whatnot when Gordon was starting out
hell he loved that little guy

Man, I MISS this Nascar so bad!
best years ever in the 90s. Gordon beat Sr every time. Sr never wrecked Gordon as both had respect
Oh how I agree...
Is it just me or did the cars sound different/better
I know man, maybe one day it will return
The 60's were the golden years of NASCAR..!!
There certainly was some good natured ribbing between the 2 of them at times, but it was never anything malicious. They clearly had a lot of respect for one another.

dale sr was so overrated its not even funny
7 Time Winston Cup Champ aint Overrated.
just because he is a 7 time champion does mean he was the grestest in my opinion dale was way overrated
If you did anything other than laugh when he said, “he ain’t too smart”, we can’t be friends. That was funny 😂
MyKittyPercy love it when Dale says you see this rain on this roof that means the tracks gonna be loose 😂
That was pretty funny.
Much better Nascar days.
I'd agree. He had a charisma matched by few.
I am a Gordan fan since 2001 and I am still having a laugh
"What'd I say?" Savage, Dale.

Earnhardt was right. always admired Earnhardts sense of humor when speaking his peace.

The height of the Gordon/Earnhardt rivalry.
hey love your channel David. also can I add you on Xbox live
There hasn't been any really good racing since Dale and Jeff. I thought Junior might be able to carry it on, but he changed after he was badly burnt in the Corvette. He didn't drive as hard as he had before.
From a fans perspective it was a rivalry but Gordon and Earnhardts perspective it just two guys racing
Was it a rivalry or was it a mentorship?
@@johnmartin122187 Rivalry mostly, but they did share common ground in that they both drove Chevy Monte Carlos.

There's concerns for the driver *as fans cheer wildly in the background*
they cheered after he got out of the car and was OK
People hated the fuck out of Jeff Gordon in the 90s lol
Surprised to hear fans even showed up for qualifying back then lol
@@masterwhopper414 I didn't hate him i wasn't a fan i was an Earnhardt fan but I did not hate Gordon
Gordon was the Kyle Busch of the 90’s
Dale, Sr. knew racing more than anyone. Long live the great one!
He didn't know enough about racing to heed the warnings and put on the HANS device. LOL!
@@bkeen7013 very few people wore them until they were mandated after Dale died, what a dick comment.
Man that's awesome. That shows you just how much Dale knows wtf he's talking about.
I saw this live! It was Friday qualifying for the 1995 August Michigan race. So glad I found footage of this, thanks to the uploader!
"what I say"

Later that season, Gordon wins the championship over Earnhardt.
you got to admit, he kind of called it
Yaegermx Maybe, but I mean it was only Jeff's 3rd season. He was still very young, and somewhat naïve.

Even for the best drivers, the slightest bit of rain can ruin your day.
That was like a scene from a movie. Sucks he crashed, but the dialogue was just too perfect.
Priceless rookie moment for Jeff Gordon. The greatest called him a noob... when experience overpowered youth...
I get your point but he wasn't a rookie. He would go on to win the championship in this his third year in the Winston Cup Series.
