if they wanted to move to russia then that was a win for both countries. good for them. if they regret it, then they're getting an authentic experience.

That is true. This is the par? and this wasticular person desision whrere to leave. They were complaining a lot about other minorities having rights? like gays, trans, even just woman decided to have an abortion. they do personaly admit they never encoured any such a problem in Russia, but they read about this in sosial media instead and that was enayght for them t o move to russia. So, one day when they express smalles dissutisfaction with their suraunding, russion with call them sectants and crasy, and betruyals, etc. they will be heappy.

These guys are a classic grifty religious homeschooling type of TH-camr -- more common in the US than Canada, but still common enough. A quick glance at their YT shows that they're from Ontario. They started the channel while they were out on a farm (a real one with an actual house, outbuildings for the animals) in northeastern Saskatchewan. They wound up selling it in spring of 2020, and moved back into Northern Ontario into a series of RVs and trailers, camping/living on rented and borrowed land. They made a series of videos showing them building an off the grid home; then a year or so ago they bought a big RV and started driving the kids around the US (mostly) and Canada. In 2023 they wound up moving to Georgia (Tiblisi, yep) and now they're 'in Russia'.
There's all kinds of weirdness here. They don't speak Russian, they have no contacts, and they look to me to be some form of anabaptist (ie, very Protestant) sect, certainly not Orthodox although I could be totally wrong there. They also REALLY don't seem to be prepared to start farming in Russia. As far as I can tell they've not run an actual functional farm-as-a-business in the four years they've been on TH-cam. They've been trying to "homestead" aka live off the land, which is brutally hard especially with no income and 9 kids to feed, and they've gone from owning a small but functional farm (pigs, ducks, chickens, big garden, etc) to nomading around in an RV with a bunch of stressed out animals in a trailer.
Honestly this feels like a desperate grift, and I think it could REALLY end badly. Trying to ignore bylaw officers in rural municipalities in northern Ontario who don't want you to live in a trailer in a rough clearing with no drinking water and a pit toilet is one thing -- dealing with Russian authorities is quite another.

There’s a family from Australia who moved to Russia a few years back…..very similar to these people religiously speaking. You can tell by the way the women dress. One of the Australian son-in laws looks like he’s in misery. They’ve advertised how wonderful Russia is so now they’re stuck and having hard times. All these people (the adults) are stupid but now their kids are gonna be stuck there too, without having the choices their parents (and grandparents) had by living in western countries.

And with enough money, which is sounds like these people have, or at least had, you can insulate yourself from reality pretty well. I suggest they'd like Prescott, Arizona. Called "The most 'American' city in America" old-tine residents tend to have on their wall a photo from the 1920s of a big Klan parade downtown. Very white, very Trumpy, very ignorant, and there's plenty of crime but the crime's all right because the crime's all white! I lived there for a while and wow, mothers pimping out their daughters (not with the daughter's permission) to older men, drug use, gang activity, and plenty of just random senseless violence like a cop pulls over some teenagers for speeding and the teens shoot the cop dead. It's OK though because the teens are good Aryans. Just move there and you'll have all the hate you like and all the ignorance too.

I listened to this nonsense and it became funny.. I subscribe to the Arend Feenstra Channel. Why did you decide that the Feenstra family regrets something and is going to go back to Canada 🤣?? The authorities extended their temporary residence permit for a year so that their family could pass the language test. They bought a bus for their family and are traveling around the region, looking for a farm to buy. Yes, they really had problems with a bank card, which was blocked by the bank’s algorithm due to massive donations to their TH-cam channel. But this lasted for several days and now everything is fine with them. About “foreign agents”, “conscription into the Russian army” is bullshit. That is particularly so for some people, in most countries, who intentionally exclude and isolate themselves and their children from "the big bad world". If this guy and his family had a TV, and watched the programs, at least they would be better informed about the pitfalls, vagaries and realities in the world. They would then be better able to make appropriate choices and manoeuvre and avoid those negatives and traps. And also to avail themselves of the positive opportunities that they otherwise choose to deny themselves.
These people seem to have adopted a lifestyle that prevents them from being aware of much of what is reality in the world, both positive and negative. In this way they have made themselves ever much more subject to being caught in traps, such as appears they have fallen into now, with their Russian move.
True and classic examples of delusional thinking, with a very rude awakening.

Yes they still love their family and friends back in Russia so much so they have offered to sponsor any who wish to immigrate as well. But they both say they would never go back. Santa Barbara is one of the most beautiful towns, probably in the world! I imagine there's _nowhere_ that wonderful in Russia. Here in California we have no shortage of natural beauty, but Santa Barbara is outstanding. It's expensive to live there, but for good reason.
I went to SB in 2002 for a concert, my dream was to see my favorite musician play live before I die, and his show at the gorgeous Lobero Theatre was a dream come true! The Lobero Theatre is the oldest in California, built in 1873, with a maximum capacity of about 600 seats.
Most in the audience were season ticket holders who had no idea who Nick Lowe was, the other 20% were fans like me who knew we were having the best experience to enjoy seeing our idol. Everyone was well-behaved as he played an all acoustic concert, just him, his guitar, and a barstool to sit on.
After the concert, most of the audience left. There was an announcement that Nick Lowe was backstage to meet any fans who want autographs, photos, and a little conversation. Yeah, my dream come true got even better!
Only about 30 of us fans went backstage to meet him. He was so nice! My husband took a pic, and just as he aimed the camera, Mr. Lowe put his arm around my shoulders and gave me a hug! The look on my face is hilarious. I could have died happy right then. I even got to ask him a question about the lyrics of one of my favorite songs, and got the answer from the man who wrote it!
I certainly understand why your wife and MIL are very happy living in Santa Barbara. The difference between Moscow and Santa Barbara is kinda like comparing a Soviet gulag to a resort in the Seychelles!

Some of what you write gets to an underlying tragedy of all of this: Russia *should* be ahead of where it is now. It is rich in natural resources, agricultural landholdings and technological knowledge. It's population generally loves their country and will sacrifice for it. And that is what they do. For a man who should have left office 15 years ago, has enriched himself and his (declining number of) friends and done so at the expense of the country and its people. They want a decent life. For themselves and their children. The incompetent dictator at the center has stolen their future. As best I can tell this is because he wants to be spoken of like Peter the Great, Catherine the Great and Stalin. He could have done so much. He failed, he had his countrymen killed and destroyed so much. Ukraine should have been a good neighbor. He has made sure that cannot happen in his lifetime.

Look people move to different countries for different reasons. Who are you to judge these people, and their decision as a family to move to Russia? Really who are you to criticize that? They moved to Russia because they wanted to secure a better future for their children, and Russia is that country for them. There are countless endless videos online of Westerners Americans and Europeans who have moved to Russia and they say nothing but good things about the country. What you are saying is pure propaganda. I urge people to do their own research and learn from the people who moved to Russia not from this guy. There are many conservatives in America who still have hope for America and they believe that they can take back the country from the leftists, but many conservatives have already lost that hope and they see Russia is a new frontier for conservatives in the west. People move to countries that support their ideology their worldview and values, and for these people Russia is that country. Being a conservative in some American states is almost impossible these days because you are almost seen as the enemy of the country, and so these people feel it’s safer for them to be who they are in Russia.

I can’t believe people take whatever this man says as absolute truth without checking the facts themselves.
1.The funds were frozen, that’s true. However, their bank account was frozen due to the amount of donations the “vodka-drinking, bear-riding etc.” Russians sent them. The bank system flagged it as a money laundering scheme as the sources of money was unknown. The account was unfrozen in a few days.
2.The information about the farm being given to them is the first time i hear it, and ive been following their channel since the beginning. They are currently exploring their options of which farm to buy. Russians even invite them to their farms and show them how farming works in Russia.
3.Russian municipal officials have been in close cooperation with the family and helped them adapt.
This whole video is honestly pretty sad. A 40-yo virgin, sitting in his mom’s basement in Whatevershire, UK and rambling about a country he knows nothing about. Let alone that he bases this video on 1 sketchy website, apparently not even having the diligence to check the channel of the family. Again, pretty sad.

They moved to Russia for all of the wrong reasons. As with all countries in the world, I found that living in Russia for a few years was a lot more comfortable by making an effort to learn the language, observe cultural differences and do your best not to piss off law enforcement. This family sounded like they imagined Russia to be America or Canada with a little less freedom of expression. I think it important to note that the russian people and culture are not the government.
