As long as Nintendo keeps making Mario games there's never going to be an ultimate Mario. They'll keep pushing the envelope as long as they can.
I think one way to acheive 'Ultimate' are for true benchmarks to be set. Odyssey was a good game but for me at least it was still way from perfect. Some areas were boring, and the goods ones mostly felt too short. A true Open world Mario would really give Us great content,, so like imagine the World maps you see in 3D land or Wonder, but the 'travel parts' actually filled in. Because its a platformer and things are not massively detail centric, We could get a whole globe where the levels are biomes. A theme park to reference what Nintendo have been doing in real life recently for example. In any case, it will be more expansive and impressive. Can't wait!

@@TheGamingTeam101Tgt101 I think I might have put out some of those thoughts on MO a bit bluntly. 😅 The (many) parts I did enjoy of the game, I _really_ enjoyed it, in fact they're classics like even the iconic early desert level (We 1st saw in the Switch 1 trailers.) Just I feel Mario Sunshine edged it out on the beach and general water levels with classics like Noki Bay. And the crazily innovative 'Ray' and hotel levels. But then, half that game is a beach!
Right, Mario is Nintendo’s bread and butter. Ultimate implies there’s nothing that can be improved further, could it be the best and craziest Mario yet? Sure? Ultimate? No, it can be for the time until the next one. When Galaxy/Galaxy 2 were the current Mario games remember people asking how could Nintendo possibly top it because it was Mario in space and where else could Nintendo take it? Thing is Mario can go anywhere it’s a series based in imagination and fantasy.
On the other hand we have SSBU, which for now is the ultimate Smash Bros. and feels like it. I think the next step for Smash is to go small again and build back up until we get another Ultimate style game sometime in the future. Smash is another of Nintendo’s flagship titles and I can’t see them leaving the money on the table, and I can’t see Smash missing a whole console cycle because that would just feel weird now. And I that would stain Switch 2 in the eyes of a lot of buyers, especially diehard Nintendo fans.
I definitely agree that the next 3d mario will be next-gen only.

Odyssey's developing team (along the Mario kart team) have been dead silent for almost 8 years, so it's pretty much confirmed that they are making a BIG game, specially if we consider the upgrade of the Switch 2 power.
Nintendo has made amazing games even with limited power. I can't imagine what can they do with something similar between PS4 pro and Xbox series S

I'd call it peak linear 3d Mario at the very least. And it's way up there for anything Mario, imo.
I hope we see the next 3D Mario soon, it would make a lot of sense for the game to be within the launch window of Switch 2!
"Soon" is relative...Could mean in a day or two, but I'd say by the end of the year. September probably.

I hope the next 3D Mario game is a mixture of Galaxy and 3D World/Bowsers Fury. Not a 1 to 1 copy or blend, I just mean with those games philosophy. The crazy gameplay of Galaxy with the stunning beauty of Bowsers Fury. I don't want just boring rinse and repeat crap like Odyssey.
I think it's going to be Super Mario Odyssey deluxe for 70 dollars! Nintendo not gonna give us a new game!

Andres. All depends when Nintendo announces or reveals the switch 2 this fiscal year. Will determine if the switch 2 will launch in March 2025. The launch title for the switch 2 could be a new Mario cart game or a new 3d Mario . Who knows.
Andres. Remember Nintendo is skipping Gamescom this August. So I doubt the switch 2 will be revealed in August with a new 3d Mario game. Now around Tokyo game show later this year or at the video games awards. I could see Nintendo showing off the switch 2.

I know it will probably be revealed for Switch 2 Trailer like how Mario Odyssy was. We know it will be open world and Mario would have new power ups as well. it most likely would be a Launch title as well.

Nah. The main point of the September Direct is to highlight the holiday lineup, not distract from it. The Switch 2 will get a dedicated reveal.

Get those older 3D Marios for the Wii and Wii U remastered and sold, and work on something that the average gamer won't scoff at. I think people just bought Mario Oddessey because there was nothing else to buy.

I still don't think Prime 4 will be cross-gen. We would have heard a lot more about the game by now if so. I expect the June direct to stealth drop a Prime 2 and 3 remake/remaster in the lead up to a Prime 4 release that will be Switch 2 only.
