      The stuff he did with them was pretty cool imo. I'd be willing to bet that Chinese Democracy ends up being a better album than whatever this version of GnR ends up releasing, if they ever do another studio album. @@forgettablelisa lol star wars was straightforward and the sequels were experimental. Its telling that you conflated bucketheads interesting with experimental, if we are measuring interest we can talk about how more people listen to and are interested in old gnr vs bucketheads stuff and there has been a relative lack of interest/impact gathered for bucketheads 700 albums. There's tons of amazing guitar players out there that you'll never hear about that are way better than Buckethead, like Ty Tabor.

      It tells you all you need to know, that Slash needs to change the guitar work from Buckethead on Chinese era songs just so he can play them. And for the record, I'm not a fan. Better and Chinese Democracy just to name a couple, are songs that completely changed in the live set. I wish the 2002 lineup remained. I remember when DJ said that "buckethead took the cool out of Guns," yet DJ screwed up regularly on the songs way too much. He messed up several times when i saw them in 2010 and 2011, and you can see him all over yt confirming this throughout his time in the band....besides, he was way too much of a show pony. Guys like Finck, Buckethead, and even Brain were humble yet amazing players. As far as in the now, Axl needs to take a break from touring....his voice is shot. I know he is older, but touring nonstop for several years couldnt have helped...and now he sounds like mickey mouse. Time to release that album guys! You know, the one that is supposedly completed but was shelved? There's some really good stuff left from those Chinese Democracy sessions, well worthy of releasing.

    Well I completely understand Slash. Of course he had nothing good to say about the guy that made his band sound completely different.
    But what I respect about Slash is that he managed to put his grudge aside and grew to like Chinese Democracy and learned the songs to play them live. I cannot overstate how cool that is from his part.
    And yeah back when I was a kid that discovered Guns I was all about Slash and Buckethead was just some imposter and I hated his guts.
    But I matured and gave Buckethead a chance. He's a tremendous guitar player, the song "Soothsayer", for example, is a serious work of art.
    His solo stuff is amazing and I sincerely recommend everyone to give it a listen. And Buckethead is not all technique and no soul, at all. The guy makes his guitar sing. I'm sure Slash would take his words back and say the same thing nowadays.
    Slash will always speak to me more as a guitarist but belittling Buckethead to "defend" Slash is unnecessary and just dumb. Both guitar players are great in their own right and it's okay to like one more than the other. But the "correct" thing is to like them both. Because missing out on good music is what's actually wrong.

It was always kind of awkward, for me being such a fan of all of the bands, that I was in that scene with. Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Mudhoney, Black Is Black, just to mention a few. Green River, malfunkshun, would eventually become Mother Love Bone
    I was never able to tell them, how unwotthy I felt, in their presence? I was a barely above average singer/guitar player, who could occasionally write a decent song. I was a man, among gods. Ultimately, heroin would become the thing that reminded me of my mortality. I won't bore you, with the sordid tale of my addiction,. It wouldn't change anyone's mind about trying it, once they make up their mind to try it. We'll just agree that it was extremely unpleasant, dealing with withdrawals. I am, today, nine years clean. I think Phil X does too. but I think once a player establishes himself firmly as a TH-cam star, it's kinda hard to shake away from all that. it just keeps the talent dangling imo, even though we, as the online audience, benefit totally. I want great artists to get what they deserve, what they work so hard for.. whatever their skill level 😉

    Comparing the 2 guitar players is extremely difficult, almost like comparing a quarterback to an edge rusher. Both play the same sport but do completely different things. It’s pretty obvious to me that slash had to hide behind the “feel” argument because it’s not something you can technically argue against. Feel is all a matter of opinion and can change from person to person and it can’t be measured, where technical proficiency can and slash knew he was clearly outmatched. Also people who know buckethead know that the “feel” and “soul” aspects are 100% there considering that colma was already several years old at that time and electric tears was either already out or soon to come depending on the date. In my personal opinion slash would have never had the catalog that buckethead has had he started out making solo guitar music, however I don’t think buckethead would have been able to make as commercially successful music. But who knows, just be glad we have both and enjoy their creations

    • @jamesriver3745
      @jamesriver3745 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well put, mate! The "feel" argument LOL. Funny how the NuGuns nailed all the old material without having to change the guitarwork to fit the "feel" of Finck or Buckethead....yet Slash has to completely change the guitar layout of the NuGuns to fit his "feel." It's because you are not the best thing to touch a guitar, Slash...Buckethead would own you...Believe it. That said, I'm not a fan of the way Slash plays ANY of the Chinese Democracy songs. I think it was a mistake bringing in Slash and Duff at this point. They are just too old now, and the band is a shadow of its former self. You can tell that Duff and Slash are not having fun out there...of course I don't blame them, Axl sounds the worst he has ever sounded, and Frank Ferrer can't drum like a professional...you can see Slash trying to jam out or do a solo and Frank just doesn't get it Part of a good drummers job is to work as a team with the bassist to make a concrete rhythm foundation for the others....but Frank can't even mold with Duff. Bring back Brain!!!
