- "I like what I'm doing," said Rosario Mazzeo, the man behind one of Pasadena's most sought after delicacies known to many as "The Sandwich." He's been in the area for more than seven decades, cementing his local legacy through delicious food and Italian culture.
Here's a revolutionary business model for today's businesses - make the customer happy.
"I like what I'm doing."
Not many of us can say that. The value of happiness is immeasurable.
Beautiful person.. beautiful heart..God bless that man....
Six bucks for the sandwich?! That's a hell of a deal! Bless you sir.
The big one at jersey Mike's is $25!!
😂 In Cali that's a hell of a deal
🍄🤌
@@stevenbaker7025 it is everywhere!
This man is a treasure to his community. Wish we had more like him
Love this place. The sandwich at Roma Market is a Pasadena institution! Just be warned that the line gets longer every time they get news coverage, but it's worth the wait.
Yup some things are worth it, we are finding that abundance does not mean quality, ppl, humanity, traditions, real good food and love means everything.
I never been or heard of this store, but it feels like this place deserves my business.
I'll buy this Italian sandwich over subway
well tbh that's not saying much
Subway has a purpose. It is for tourists who do not know better. Locals should know.
It's a good sandwich
You’re a hero
@@drumtwo4seven i was thinking the same thing lol.
Dang. I drove by this place everyday for two years and never knew of its existence!
Whomever is the one learning from him is blessed beyond all riches... This IS AMERICAN Tradition, we melted everyone into one family and we ALL Enjoy the rewards of hard work!
Well said!
Let this be a reminder to younger generations that simplicity and quality ingredients can really go a long way and some things are classics for a reason!
The key to success the key to all success “like what you’re doing”
Wonderful story and a living legend. Buon appetito!
Call IT quaint, just walk through and feel the joy
Pro move get the no meat version with artichoke hearts and buy the meat from the counter and add it. Better than the meat version
U economical Slickster you! I luv it! 🫡😉
Definitely a pro move. If I make a trip from San Diego I’ll definitely do that recommendation
@@sumwonkool make video of you feasting on that beautiful sandwich 😅
Wonderful place, had a chance to stop and pick up a sandwich. Simple and perfect.
Glad to see the Italian Traditions are going strong on the West Coast too. Living outside of Philadelphia, we have several food people like Mr. Mazzeo that keep their food traditions going!
Bro can never be replaced by an automated kiosk. Blackrock take heed. The human element will win as long as we have gems like Mazzeo. God Bless.
Italians make me hungry!! Their passion for food is unmatched
Mexican>Italian
Italian food= the training wheels of food. White people with vanilla taste-buds think it's amazing.
@@RequiemJr no, you mexicans have too much ego. Start acting like you're the best because you live next to america.
@@RequiemJrnah. Mexican food is bland and dry.
My gf used to live near that store, and we went there for Italian goodies. Once I asked him what was in the sandwich? YOU DON'T NEED TO KNOW !!! was the answer. I bought some anyway and they were good :)
HA HA HA, I asked him also, he said to me: don't worry you're going to love it...... can't say I loved it, but it was ok I'd buy it again.
I was warned what to expect in THE Sandwich. It is a very European sandwich. I had things in Paris that were that minimal. (ham & butter on a baguette). There are a lot of sub places. When I was there the old gent was back there slicing cold cuts for THE Sandwich. Glad he still hanging in there.
When i was in Philly I had a ham and butter sandwich on a baguette and although it SOUNDS really cheap and crappy as far as sandwiches go, when you use quality fresh-baked bread and a sweet, creamy butter and a quality shaving of ham, it's really heavenly. Simple sandwiches are no less delicious than complicated ones if the flavors compliment each other.
Omg he’s adorable. 🥹
I’ve gotta swing by and grab one of these, it’s only a mile from our work building Colorado and Arroyo
I think it’s Mortadella, provolone, capicola (gabagool), and salami. Olive oil on what looks like some delicious bread. Man I wish that I could try one.
He is SO adorable!
Looks like he’s resting all the time in that chair, he deserves it, the man has worked hard all his life, and I bet he loved every minute of it.
Nearly every great Italian place has an old grandma sitting in a chair. Usually a grandma but not today!
Awesome
I love this sandwich its my favorite in California so Iconic!!!
I used to eat those sandwiches. Very simple but very good. Not too long ago he used to cut the meat to order, but the demand was so high he began to make them in advance.
Greetings from ITALY 🌈🌈💐💐💐💐🌺🌺🌈
Simple and fresh will always be better.
An absolute legend keeping Italian traditions alive in LA
TRUE STORY. Terrific sandwich too.
Man deserves some new decals on his big lighted sign above the front door.
Not necessary

a human being that in this crazy world hasn't forgotten to be human
Most sought after sandwich not a single picture of it. Amazing reporting guys
exactly!
Imagine how good the food id here in Italy 🇮🇹
Sonny Bono made me a sandwich. I was just courier picking up a check for some firm. Italians LOvE people, and it shows. We need more news like this warm fuzzy stuff.
yup
This IS why i MISS MY DELI 34 years in there Balham the famous EMMIS DELICATESSEN SW12OHR NUMBER 71 EMMANUEL RD ,
RIP
Seems like a kind man, but I'm certain the workers hate his chair, and that he sits there all day, watching them. By noon, they're probably like "Just go home already, fuhk, bro!"
I used to get pizza and pasta
Given the inflation, does the price of $6/sandwich driving customer? Subway is $12 for the most basic sandwich now.
reminds me of giulianos in gardena, local, cheap sandwich
Do they have gabaghul?
its not that good but he's good man hard working A plus for dedication. I would eat it again
Italian deli’s are the best
Why didn't you show the sandwich being made?
Cardboard boxes are from a time with paper.
Hahahah!!😂 I Just ate there yesterday!!
I have no teeth. The sandwich has been oppressing me since 2004. I demand justice!
Forgetaabout it that anchor lady is so fine
If Martin Scorsese owned a deli store
"when do you rest" he litterly sits 9 hours a day at the store. ahahaa a
70 years and the boys from My Blue Heaven didn’t find it?
All the hipsters from South Pasadena go here. Sandwich is mostly bread, little meat & cheese. Its trendy so thats why popular.
That’s what a good Italian sandwich is.
@@Fairestof thank you
you're too used to the american way: a huge slab of cheap and salty meat, flavorless bread. mid-quality cheese. this is the proper way.
"I only make one kind of sandwich"
"He also makes a different version with artichokes"
Sorry I had to 🤣
Imagine if society collectively "woke up" and boycotted all food business that was not locally supplied
Looks like bob arum
A Supreme collab? LMAO
mortadella on a white bun is heaven
Similar to Claro's. I see the old man there when I go there.
His $6 sandwiches are the BoMB!!!!!😊😊😊
You can't find a better lunch for $6!
Where is the sandwich 😳
The report says he’s on that store for 73 years which would’ve made him 12 years old when he first owned it. What stupid inaccurate reporting.
That's not a sandwich, that's a SANGWICH
wopfood.
Have to wonder how much the store pays in property taxes.
None of your business and sad that after a great story that's all you can think of.... Pathetic
A mob boss that oversees…….sandwiches. Beautiful.
1:32 sits in a chair all day
Probably crawling with Asia food and real estate tourists
Who cares
Anything taste better when you're hungry. Idk
It’s good but don’t go out of your way for this sandwich. Very very basic, bread will tear the roof of your mouth, lot of bread for little meat and 1 slice of cheese. I would go there again but that’s because I’m down the street.
Bread meat and cheese…😴
Don't make people like that anymore or businesses just like my mom and dad. Governments fault.
It's dollar store bread though...
Who wants to Newsom gone and never seen again?.?.?
Govermin Nuisance or NO SENSE! Def a gov for Everyone but TRUE CALIFORNIANS & AMERICANS! He sucks RHINO BUTT!
ME
BEAUTIFUL SANDWICHES, BEAUTIFUL GOVERNOR NEWSOM EATS THERE AS WELL

Hype is real af. The sandwich is weak af with hardly any meat, no crazy flavors and it’s expensive af. Stop the cap as if this place has good sandwiches. People need to stop hyping it up and also stop being a follower. If you like hype the, try it and you’ll regret it
I can't agree or disagree as I've never tried it, but your comment reminds me of when I see a "Best Burgers" list and the winner is some lame 1/4 patty with 2lbs of produce on top.
It's about the flavors, quality and bread, and not about quantity. It's $6, not $20. Even McDonald's burgers can be over $5 now.

You're wrong. It's a good sandwich. If you don't know the difference between the good stuff and trash, nobody can help you.
I will make an excuse to drive to Pasadena on a random Saturday. "Oh, I'm going hiking", or "Oh there's a place that only sells exactly what I'm looking for". In reality, I'm looking for an excuse to go to the Roma Market and bring home sandwiches. Home by noon, enjoy a sandwich for lunch.
