- When a shuttle orbiter travels from one place to another on Earth, it needs a lift -- a 'ferry flight' -- aboard the Shuttle Carrier Aircraft.

It kills me we are ending the Shuttle program. It seems a bigger waist to end it with all the technology and years of science and work that went into it. Not seeing it as one of our better moments.

I remember the Russian Space Shuttle was able to do transient flights on it's own power. How come that was never implemented into the space shuttle?
