Oh. My. God. This old set was literally part of my childhood. Alongside Crash Curve and Radical Roadway, this was my favorite Hot Wheels World playset, and because I loved it so much, I tore through 2 DIFFERENT COPIES, losing parts and everything, until I had the 2015/16 release that I own intact to this day.

These older toys are always cool. I had a yellowish version of that tow truck that was all chipped up as a kid it looks like they switched to a double tow hitch at some point. The original had a single none swivel hook.
I will say the ground needed to be mud or dirt colored. Even green woulda been better than flat gray.
The first release has a lighter gray base which almost looks like a dirty clay color, but agree a brown or more mud looking color probably would have made the set even better!
Absolutely love both of these! And that bottom model of the 5 pack is one of my all time favorite models!
It’s so good! The casting itself is great and the junkyard patina on it is so good - it would be cool to see them make a 2024 scrapyard set!

Reminds me of a track they have now based on one of their semi rigs, the garbage truck. You stick a car in a big plastic representation of the truck, you dump/launch it out the back, and then it goes down, flies around a corner, and hits a mechanism that flings it into a dumpster which then closes.

This Hot Wheels playset is amazing, definitely on par with any of the modern Matchbox Action Drivers sets. Mattel should seriously consider revisiting this set. The tooling for it may not exist anymore, but the design work is already done and with perhaps just a few updates to the base so that it could hook into other Action Drivers set this could be reissued again! Thanks for the video!👍
I’d really love to see an updated version released in the Action Drivers line, I feel it would fit in well!
Reminds me a bit of the Micro machines junkyard playset. Even down to the car cubes. I like seeing sets like this that allow playing with the cars, rather than just racing them.

I had the hot wheels thing I don’t know what happened to it and I loved it
I bought a re-release of that Hot Wheels Car Crusher playset from circa 2007, not that I generally collect playsets as an adult collector (I was already in my early 30s at the time) but rather because the version of the set I bought came with a whopping five bonus cars including a white Morris Mini, back when it was still a full-metal mainline with a pop-off body, and, if I remember correctly, it was only a few Canadian dollars more than a five pack at Walmart.
(I think one of the other cars was a blue rally Escort. The other three were probably fantasy castings.)
5 bonus cars is awesome - we see bonus cars in some playsets today, but they are always fantasy castings. It would be nice to get a playset with 5 licensed castings nowdays!

Breakdown van used to come in an earlier encarnation of the Hitch 'N Haul line, and the set it came in shared a name of a current one, Roadside Assistance. Seemed to have more or less the same general idea behind it, just much more better done with a better truck.

The main problem with that crusher set - is that it's far too clean. I work in a scrapyard, and although people are cleaning up all day, the crap still builds up. Dust, dirt, bits of rag, general filth still appears. It's quite fascinating, actually.
The dust part is hard to recreate and for an affordable cost, but agree, it’s the cleanest scrapyard I’ve ever seen lol!

Please please do more old stuff! I'd love to see track sets and such from the 2000s, there's so little documentation.
Alot of them are starting to get a little more expensive so I’ll have to see what I have and can hunt down for more videos! 😎🏁
@@64Wheels Looking forward to it! Oh, and I forgot to mention, I never knew Matchbox used to stamp the vehicle scale on the base! That's really nice, honestly. I wish Hot Wheels would do that for their fantasy castings. The best I can do without that is just trying to compare how big the seats are.
@macyfloof64 that would be cool to see scales on fantasy castings or really any HWs casting at this point ha. Fantasy castings especially though like you were mentioning bc there’s no scale reference for cars that don’t exist in real life.

I faintly remember a newer rusty car? I want to say one of the Matchbox 5-pack cars was a Ford hot rod with some patina on it🤔

They’ve released it a few times so probably - bummer that it broke but the good memories are priceless
