I kinda like how the train station sticker looks like the NY subway. The old-school Brooklyn boy in me approves of that. Wonder if the kids would dig the set...
Cheers from Hungary! I will order this for my 4-year-old son. He plays a lot with the other smaller parking garage set with the elevator. He will love this one.
I have a few ideas for matchbox playset including a 50’s diner cement works recycling centre city park news station post office and a drive-in movie theatre
Would be cool if Matchbox made these stuff more realistic instead of toy-ish or maybe releases a new line for older market because I personally would love to have one of these for diorama and photography purposes made officially by Matchbox
@@64Wheels I wonder why they (Hot Wheels and Matchbox) haven't released realistic playset or diorama for their grownups market. They do aware that some of their buyers are grownups, right?
I'm getting this to add to my action driver sets, I have them all except the volcano, fire 🔥 set bro 💯 great video, I'm going to order it from Amazon right now ASAP, thanks didn't know this was out 💯🔥🔥🔥 I didn't want the volcano.
The volcano seems to be the most hated one bc it doesn’t fit with the other stuff at all lol - but the parking garage here is pretty good. It’ll look nice with the rest of your sets!
I don't know Sam, I'm on the fence with this one. No lights, no sounds...the Police Station alone has over 10 unique sounds because its a call and response type communication between Dispatch and Unit, but that tells a story. I am unsure what story this Transportation set is trying to get over other than the failed attempt to suggest other modes of transport. Here's some ideas for MB designers, put a sound toggle switch at the bus stop so the bus can activate it when it arrives. That drives us to go get the MB city bus. Use a lighted lift arm at the dock when the boat/ferry arrives. Let the cars going down trigger sounds and announcements. Geez, they could have done a lot more for $40. But what do I know, I'm just average Joe spending my money, NOT!
ikr. And I hate how cheap they go for vehicles. They could have given a lot of plastic vehicles. Or atleast some metal vehicles. But aside from car they gave trash which we could make ourselves at home.
Definitely agree that this set seems to be like an afterthought way to combine transportation methods, but I will say it is nice to have a second bus stop, taxi station, and boat dock. BUT, they could have made this set so much better, especially for the price. The lack of lights/sounds is a bit of a mystery bc all the other large sets seem to accel in that area and it was definitely a missed opportunity in several areas. They could have added a bus stop notification like you mentioned, they could have added seagull and ocean sounds at the dock, or even a boat departure announcement, helicopter noises to the top - just a lot of chances to improve. After looking the set over some more after the video, I also came to realize there’s only two parking spots on the “garage” part - so the entire structure is basically just a giant launch ramp rather than usable play-space…again, a bit of an odd design choice.
I wasn’t thrilled with the all plastic boat and helicopter, although the plastic helicopters have been released in the line before. The very plastic-y boat was a bit of a setback bc they literally have a diecast version of the boat they included lol.
my son likes to create traffic in the lot all the way to the top, press the helicopter button and flood the streets with cars lol, this is a very creative set, and the ferri is new, never seen before in a matchbox set, correct me if im wrong, hopefully they add some skyscrapers, this is the tallest building in the city next to the construction site i believe.
Really hoping they add many more sets to this line! Some more smaller sets like a bank, news station, and some larger sets like a Space X/NASA launchpad, car dealership, strip mall, and skyscrapers would be awesome to see them make! Matchbox has had ferry sets before, but the best one was from the 70s as it had a lot of accessories with that one. I have it but still need to do a video on it ha.
I didnt realize this is a new thing and this set is new, it thought it was always around, i built this for my 4 year old yesterday, he is obsessed with it, so i decided to buy 5 more sets, just built 3 today, now waiting for pizza hut and fedex lmao, not gonna lie my inner child agreed with my son on getting more right away, this stuff is awesome, where was this when i was 4? all i had was legos and a road rug with flat buildings!
Haha that’s awesome! The Action Drivers are probably one of the best city-themed diecast sets of all time! When I was little we had some hot wheels and matchbox playsets, but none that made a complete city with two way traffic like these sets have. The Pizza Hut and FedEx are so rad lol
@@64Wheels yea thats what i mean, these connected roads are is a great idea i never seen that before, hopefully they make more add ons, it seems like they make a few every other year, hopefully theres third parties that will make add ons as well.
New subscriber here! Great review on this set. Back in the 70s, my dad got me a matchbox parking garage set for Christmas. You could build it 2 or 3 different ways. Hours of fun. Also, not far from Dayton here!
Awesome! I actually have that garage set too! If it’s the same one I’m thinking about, it’s like a Super Garage with multiple levels that are separated by yellow or orange plastic girders. I’ll have to do a video on that one too at some point! It’s crazy to find local people online too - Ohio is so big, yet so small, ha!
This is cool, not much parking garage but still really cool. Wouldn't be cool to see an action drivers train set? Like a freight train with an auto rack car, or something like that. But we really need is a car dealership of some kind. But, what do I want? A Saab. A Saab made by matchbox or hot wheels. Mattel is, well pretty much all 1:64 die cast manufacturers are missing is a Saab or two, the only way I've been able to find 1:64 scale Saabs, are vintage releases that are hard to find, or 3d prints. Saabs were, and still are, a niche brand. So that's probably why they haven't been able to make them (and licensing from a dead company) but it would be so cool to have something Mattel made that's a Saab.
Yeah the “parking” part of this garage is missing lol. I’d love to have an Action Drivers train set - they could do so much with that and release expansion sets, more track, train stations, and release different trains like high speed bullet trains and steam engines. Lots of possibilities! I think the only Saab 1/64 scale car I have is the 9000 Turbo that was released by Matchbox in the late 80s. It’s a pretty cool casting though. The only other Saab I know of in that scale is the 1973 Sonnett from Matchbox as well.
6:46 MATCHBOX LORE!?!? We now know that the Matchbox city and Hot wheels city are in one universe and they have transport connections. WE ARE GETTING A DUCKING LORE!
Yeah I it connects to the other side as well as the dock side, just not the dock side when you have to expandable dock in certain positions. I’m going to connect them all here soon and do a video on the entire city!
Not having parking spaces on each level to store cars is really strange for parking garage. Also having the gate at the second level to stop the car half ways seems odd. The car should launch all the way from the top.
To call it a parking garage is a bit tricky, but I wasn’t even sure what to call it….because you can only park two cars on the top and then some at the very bottom. It’s almost like a parking tower lol? The whole set is shaped around those circular ramps and the play experience from it basically.
Rather disappointed that mattel have been cheaping out. It really wouldn’t hurt to have a metal heli and boat. Reminds me of them removing operational airplane wheels and rip 6 wheels cars. Would love to see one of those DIY model channels take one of these and make them really detailed, just a thought i had
It seems like every industry from toys to food is cheating out while raising costs too😖 I bought some extra Auto Drivers auto mechanics shops in order to customize but haven’t got around to doing so yet.
I’ve been keeping a pretty close eye on them and haven’t seen any 2025 sets teased yet, but when I do I’ll be sure to post about them on my community page here.
Oh, I really like this! Reminds me of the Hot Wheels Spin City set I had when I was a kid. Now then...if you're sick of Matchbox parking garages, why not give the HW Ultimate Garages a spin? I've got the Super Ultimate Garage and I absolutely adore it.
I have a few versions of that Hot Wheels Ultimate Garage too! I’ve never unboxed them as they are still in my diecast storage lol! The parking garages are cool, but I hope they make some more that aren’t garage based like a mall, car dealer, post office, grocery store or even a drive-in movie theater that hooked up to your phone would be cool too!
@@64Wheels haha that being said, I`m gonna get one for sure sooner or later cuz it's still a lovely set with irresistible charms. Thank you for your superb video as always.
I would put this and the ferry set on opposite ends of a setup. Because the boats need 2 different points of interest to travel to and from. If they're next to each other it looks cool but where ya goin?
Yeah that’s what was trying to get across at the end too ha. I probably could have said it better, but I was initially trying to connect the ferry port to the dock side to keep all the water stuff in the same place, but the ferry will connect fine to another set or even the other side of the transportation set.
Hello 64: First, I appreciate your unboxing and review. I just went on AMAZON, and it appears that the only way to purchase this playset is if you buy a "bundle." They have it bundled with other Action Drivers playsets. I grabbed the cheapest bundle (which comes with the gas station), which I don't really need since I already have two, but it was the most logical based on the price point, which was right around $50.00. Perhaps AMAZON is trying to get rid of its inventory of older sets. Anyhow, about this playset. Now that I have seen it, I agree that this is perhaps the best "parking garage" playset, and your logic of making it a "centerpiece" makes perfect sense. Oddly, it doesn't come with lights and sound; that would have pushed my opinion over the top. I'd like to ask you about attaching the Ferry Terminal. Was it possible to attach it based on connecting the roads? Thinking the area across from the ice cream vendor. In real life, the ferry service would be attached to the road and separate from the rest of the dock. I'll find out for myself when I get my set. Lastly, I hope the list of "places" you read is a teaser- for what we will see coming for the holidays. That would really be nice. Finally, once again, thanks to both you and your wife. She appears to be very helpful, and her comments were also very helpful.
It should be able to float bc it’s all plastic, but Matchbox does have versions that will float that are plastic and metal, so this was a bit cheaper way of putting a boat into the set ha. Still nice they included it though so I’m thankful for that.
Yeah the boat needed to be between the size of the ferry and the little plastic boat they included ha. Some of the older matchbox boats were a bit bigger so some of those might work a little better. It would be cool if they had a line of boats like they do planes in the Sky Busters line.
