I disagree with his assertion that you shouldn't evolve. Evolving is good, cheap xp for the super commons like Rattata and Pidgey. It also gives you a consistent source of decent strength fighters for gyms. Hell, if you don't want to waste potions you can even throw them out after. I have 6 Raticates and 3 Pidgeots right now lol. For others, you just need to figure out "how easy is it to get enough candy to evolve this?" If it's quite difficult, then it will be better to wait for a decent CP pokemon to evolve.
Here's a little tip from my own experience... Only use a lucky egg and incense when you first start the game and have not discovered any Pokemon. After that use only incense when you're walking trying to catch Pokemon. Catch and save every one you catch, especially pidgey caterpie weedle and rattata. After you've caught a lot do the math. See how much candy you have for that specific Pokemon and if you need a few more candy to evolve one more sell a few but make sure you have the right amount of Pokemon to match the amount of candy for evolution. (How I do it is if I have 36 pidgey candies I will star/favorite 3 pidgeys so I know to evolve them) after this, when you've save a bunch of Pokemon to evolve USE A LUCKY EGG!! I've been playing less than a week and I'm level 16 and from the last 2 days of saving I have 33 Pokemon to evolve including adding 3 more entries to my pokedex! With a lucky egg activated that's 36000 experience points!!! Give it a shot! :)
I live on a military base. I've seen people using this app as a workout program. to hatch the eggs they catch by running to length of the sea wall which is around 2 miles. But all gyms are already owned, and I can hardly ever find pokemon, I literally have to walk at least 1 mile to catch a pokemon.
Incense and find pokestops with cherry blossums (pink petals) floating around them. These have lure modules active and you'll see about 1 pokemon every 3-7 minutes just sitting there. You can stack it with incense for an even greater effect. Also, watch that loading icon top left of the screen (white spinning pokeball), if that sticks and won't go away and you aren't moving, the server connection was lost, close the game and clear it from recent apps then start it again.
@awinn4183 I live on a military base and though there are no regular pokemon just hanging out. The Soldiers here keep the Pokestops lured pretty much 24/7 so I have no issues. Also I just head off base.
Wrong. First off, those numbers are fake or expensive. Secondly, the right way to play the game is to have fun walking around, catching and raising the pokemon you like; training and catching stronger ones--not ignoring starters and getting rid of easier pokemon.

At least I can get upset over something new and wonderful that happened to me today. Was walking down a street and found a blastoise. Wasted around 10 balls trying to catch it only for the game to freeze up on me when it got into my pokeball. Then after wasting all those balls I realized I never had a chance to begin with since I didn't have any ultra balls. fml
Whatever the most common pokemon are in your area are great for this. Pidgey is a good one for instance, low candy cost and you can find it all the time in a lot of places.
+Glomoro this is what I did. I didn't evolve anything until about level ten, then I threw on my lucky egg and evolved EVERYTHING and I mean everything. Fifteen pidgeys, ten rattatas, eevees, anything I could. I gained about 30,000 experience and went from ten straight to level fourteen
If you're willing to spend $20 to improve your experience things will go much better. Buy incubators and lucky eggs. Collect eggs at stops and begin incubating them. Put on your running shoes or get on your bike and go toward an area with densely spaced pokestops. Do a circuit collecting at pokestops. Resist the urge to catch undiscovered pokemon until you have a lucky egg active, it makes a big difference. When your 2k eggs are near hatching activate a lucky egg and some incense. Start catching and evolving everything you can. Hatch the eggs, and don't battle at gyms, it takes time and it doesn't earn much xp. If you already have the final evolution of a pokemon don't waste time catching new ones unless you're some place with very few pokemon. From this start keep catching what you can. Save evolving pokemon to undiscovered stages. When you encounter a new pokemon roaming use an egg and then evolve all the saved up pokemon. You can hit level 12 in
While using an exp egg, all evolutions will grant 1200xp. so save your candy and evolve your pokemon between catches while using an intense. By catching many common pokemon, Pidgey and Ratta, you'll grow in level ridiculously fast. Only evolve them once then send away for candy.
If anyone in the uk wants Pokemon go on iOS just go on AppStore, log out of ur Apple ID and make a new one but when it asks for region press Australia then click none when it asks for credit card and type in a bunch of rubbish when asks for address then ur done u should be able to download it after that log back into ur normal Apple ID and play
I actually caught all the starters. I got the charmander at the beginning and then in a mall I caught a squirtle then on a road trip the next day I caught a bulbasaur.
Pikachu is also a starter, if a trainer keeps walking away from his starter selection then a Pikachu will appear instead of the other three to be caught.

The best strategy I've been using is find y2 pokestops set up 2 lures and burn an incense and use an egg. Weedles caterpies and pidgeys are your best friends they evolve after 12 candies so that in mind with the egg is an easy 1000 xp and just farm as much as you can and evolve everything while you lucky egg is on
I've got to walk about 20 mins to get to the city which has poke stops everywhere so that's a plus I guess but they really need to spread them out into spots that aren't only highly populated
catch a wild 2nd last evolution of a pokemon max it out ( or get close to maxed )and then evolve it so when it evolves the final evolution will have the same percentage as the previous evolution ( near 100% ) but because you level up you will have to gradually upgrade it each time you level up ~the point of this is is so you can save a little stardust because most of the time a pokemons previous evolution will be cheaper to power up and as EVERYONE knows ( though i don't think I need to say this im going to anyways ) it dosen't cost stardust to evolve pokemon

These Pokémon will never get that high. Exeggcutor is one of the strongest Pokémon with Max at at least 2500 there will be no Pokémon above 4000. Dragonite is the strongest catchable Pokémon with Max at around 3200 so the thumbnail is fake
Bassically you can either beat out many gyms with your top 6 pokemon and place decent pokes there or beat out one,two maybe 3 gyms and place your strongest. It's really only good to place strong ones at high leveled Gyms because you want it to stay awhile and colect pokecoins. If you dimply take over a gym that was a different color, sure you could do it with a decent team but afterwards you'll place you're top pokemon. Now having a level 780 something golbat is good but when its 6 vs it. It'll get taken over easily meaning you just wasted a lot of time,potions and you're top pokemon being locked up for a few hours for very little experience points. Not only that but having a high leveled pokemon there at a level 1 gym means that if your same team were to happen by it. If their top pokemon is level say 500 something.. it wont be able to take on that level 700 and no gym experience will be gained plus you're teamate just wasted time and potions for no experience cause they can only fight the gym with 1 pokemon... So recap. DON'T LEAVE YOUR BEST POKEMON AT A LOW LEVEL GYM. Unless it's 5 or higher I wouldnt even put your 2nd best right now. Gyms go up to 30.

From what I've experience of the game, it's better to raise a good XL from base to evolution. I've managed to find most of the bird evolutions and they're not even as strong as the base raised and then evolved version that I started working with. The effect magnifies from each evolution grade.
idk if anyone knows this but you can actually get pikachu in the beginning of the game with the other 3 starters. just walk around until the 3 starters (charmander, bulbasaur and squirtle) disappear, after the 4th walk around a little bit and BAM YOU FOUND YOURSELF A PIKACHU. trust me, this actually works cuz i got one this way myself lol. have fun! :)
I hope they'll include actual Pokemon turnbased gameplay soon.. or at least normal leveling. Catching 30 Gastlys or 1 Genger is so frickin' hard! I'm sure people will start to think I'm a necrophile because I always hang around the graveyard to catch ghost pokemon. ^^
I agree with almost everything except the don't waste candy part. I would say don't use it to power up but definitely use it to evolve Pokemon you know you don't want anyway. Every time you evolve a Pokemon you get 500xp. I've already evolved like 8 pidgeys just for the xp. They only require 12 candies to evolve.
fastest way to level up without getting lucky eggs is catching every common pokemon around you. For me its rats and pidgeys and weevils. Then just evolve them and transfer. Low on pokeballs? Just go to a pokestop and chill there for an hour to stock up. Some places have up to 3 right next to each other. Wanna save battery? Turn your AR off. You don't need to use your camera AR to catch them. Dont understand how people are running in the street to catch them. You can simply press on a pokemon when it appears and catch it. Even if its across the street. Also you can walk away and still catch it once your screen is showing to throw balls at it. For those in the city that have eggs. Eggs do hatch while riding the bus so might be good to plan a bus ride. Also found out that turning the app on and off and GPS on and off your character runs across the screen until GPS pinpoints location. You can hatch a 2.0 km egg doing this while sitting (may take long) but hey your not moving lol
These tips are fantastic! I'm level 16 right now and wish I had known not to use stardust and candies early AND had a better strategy for using my lucky eggs.
I leveled from level 9-15 in about 2 hours. What you do is farm as many Pokémon as you can. Duplicates are what you want. Then pop a lucky egg and evolve as many Pokémon as you can. I evolved about 20 pidgeys and gained 5 levels in about 10 minutes

The best strategy I've been using is find y2 pokestops set up 2 lures and burn an incense and use an egg. Weedles caterpies and pidgeys are your best friends they evolve after 12 candies so that in mind with the egg is an easy 1000 xp and just farm as much as you can and evolve everything while you lucky egg is on

If you don't pick the first three and wait a while apparently you can get Pikachu as a starter
yup, dont select any of the original starters, then he will pop up in the middle but be careful when you try touching his spot
catch a wild 2nd last evolution of a pokemon max it out ( or get close to maxed )and then evolve it so when it evolves the final evolution will have the same percentage as the previous evolution ( near 100% ) but because you level up you will have to gradually upgrade it each time you level up ~the point of this is is so you can save a little stardust because most of the time a pokemons previous evolution will be cheaper to power up and as EVERYONE knows ( though i don't think I need to say this im going to anyways ) it dosen't cost stardust to evolve pokemon

These Pokémon will never get that high. Exeggcutor is one of the strongest Pokémon with Max at at least 2500 there will be no Pokémon above 4000. Dragonite is the strongest catchable Pokémon with Max at around 3200 so the thumbnail is fake

so you can use your strongest to beat the gym's
Bassically you can either beat out many gyms with your top 6 pokemon and place decent pokes there or beat out one,two maybe 3 gyms and place your strongest.
It's really only good to place strong ones at high leveled Gyms because you want it to stay awhile and colect pokecoins. If you dimply take over a gym that was a different color, sure you could do it with a decent team but afterwards you'll place you're top pokemon. Now having a level 780 something golbat is good but when its 6 vs it. It'll get taken over easily meaning you just wasted a lot of time,potions and you're top pokemon being locked up for a few hours for very little experience points. Not only that but having a high leveled pokemon there at a level 1 gym means that if your same team were to happen by it. If their top pokemon is level say 500 something.. it wont be able to take on that level 700 and no gym experience will be gained plus you're teamate just wasted time and potions for no experience cause they can only fight the gym with 1 pokemon...
So recap. DON'T LEAVE YOUR BEST POKEMON AT A LOW LEVEL GYM. Unless it's 5 or higher I wouldnt even put your 2nd best right now. Gyms go up to 30.

From what I've experience of the game, it's better to raise a good XL from base to evolution. I've managed to find most of the bird evolutions and they're not even as strong as the base raised and then evolved version that I started working with. The effect magnifies from each evolution grade.

idk if anyone knows this but you can actually get pikachu in the beginning of the game with the other 3 starters. just walk around until the 3 starters (charmander, bulbasaur and squirtle) disappear, after the 4th walk around a little bit and BAM YOU FOUND YOURSELF A PIKACHU. trust me, this actually works cuz i got one this way myself lol. have fun! :)

Catching 30 Gastlys or 1 Genger is so frickin' hard! I'm sure people will start to think I'm a necrophile because I always hang around the graveyard to catch ghost pokemon. ^^
I agree with almost everything except the don't waste candy part. I would say don't use it to power up but definitely use it to evolve Pokemon you know you don't want anyway. Every time you evolve a Pokemon you get 500xp. I've already evolved like 8 pidgeys just for the xp. They only require 12 candies to evolve.
fastest way to level up without getting lucky eggs is catching every common pokemon around you. For me its rats and pidgeys and weevils. Then just evolve them and transfer. Low on pokeballs? Just go to a pokestop and chill there for an hour to stock up. Some places have up to 3 right next to each other. Wanna save battery? Turn your AR off. You don't need to use your camera AR to catch them. Dont understand how people are running in the street to catch them. You can simply press on a pokemon when it appears and catch it. Even if its across the street. Also you can walk away and still catch it once your screen is showing to throw balls at it. For those in the city that have eggs. Eggs do hatch while riding the bus so might be good to plan a bus ride. Also found out that turning the app on and off and GPS on and off your character runs across the screen until GPS pinpoints location. You can hatch a 2.0 km egg doing this while sitting (may take long) but hey your not moving lol
These tips are fantastic! I'm level 16 right now and wish I had known not to use stardust and candies early AND had a better strategy for using my lucky eggs.
I leveled from level 9-15 in about 2 hours. What you do is farm as many Pokémon as you can. Duplicates are what you want. Then pop a lucky egg and evolve as many Pokémon as you can. I evolved about 20 pidgeys and gained 5 levels in about 10 minutes
