    This is one of the best short concert I ever heard in my life. Congratulations Mr. Conte. In the past I was 3 times in Philadelphia. I never had a chance to hear you live. I hope, after the COVID, I get a chance. I will come back to Philadelphia.

    I'm constantly astounded by the strings on this organ. It's hard for me to 'see' pipes when I hear them. Magnificent program, particularly the Debussy with awesome registrations, thank you.

      We love the strings too! They are the foundation for most successful registrations on the organ, and are really glad you enjoy them as much as we do!

    I don't know what I love more: the lush string ensemble, or the majestic diapason chorus and mixtures. Absolutely sublime.

    Just SUPERB!!!! Wow!! What an absolute THRILL listening to those strings and ESPECIALLY the 32' flues were doing as they were supposed to, rattle my ear buds. It was as though I was in the room and those reeds!! Mr. Conte plays the most beautiful pieces that are spectacular on this organ as though they were written for this instrument. "The Lost Chord" was magnificent!! I've never heard this organ quite like this before as whomever was the audio engineer, deserves an award. I'm curious as to the microphones used, just stunning! BRAVISSIMO!!!!

    • @thewanamakerorgan

      Mark - Thanks for the kind words! The Friends of the Wanamaker Organ has (through specific grants and donations) been able to build a recording studio that records both audio and video. That's literally why we have a donation link above - making these videos sound and look like this is expensive! The audio is recorded at 192k/32 bit using a variety of microphones placed around the room. In post they get time-aligned to correct for placement. The primary microphones are DPA 4006's in the center of the room, flying approximately 25 feet in the air. Sennheiser 8020's capture the echo and string division. All microphones were recently adjusted, as it turns out that the original placement wasn't quite ideal. Glad you like the results!

    Agree with Jake Darmstadter. Please, please play Finlandia again at one of the after-hours concerts! My love affair with this instrument began in 1954 when I was 5 years old. My grandma introduced me to it & it's been a beloved friend since then.

    So wonderful to hear this professionally recorded. While I appreciate the amateur videoes, nothing can compare with this. It's the nearest I'll ever get to standing in the grand Court. Nga mihi nui from Aotearoa.

    • @thewanamakerorgan
      @thewanamakerorgan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In many ways, this is better than standing in the court, because there is no shopping noise and you can watch the musician play. But nothing can compare to sitting in the silent court after hours for one of the Friends concerts!

    Very special (the strings division!) and interesting organ. Peter Richard Conte is a fine organist; it's always a pleasure to hear his playing: arrangements, interpretations and art of registration. It's a pity whe have not organs in France in our stores.

      @@thewanamakerorgan considering that the string division is the main source of brightness in this otherwise very bottom-heavy organ, would there be any possibility of additions being made to the diapason choruses to brighten it up? Some Willis style upperwork and mixtures, based on double-languid diapasons, unenclosed, in that gloriously renovated main case (which I once read is empty?), would really brighten it up and give it more presence. I understand the case pipes are all dummies? A tragic waste if so.

    • @thewanamakerorgan
      @thewanamakerorgan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Pretty much no chance of anything being added! We like it how it is. I will say, there are several large mixtures and most of a solo division currently down for restoration. When they're back online, they do balance things out toward the sound you are indicating.
