I had the pleasure of visiting Germany several times because my daughter lives near Ravensburg. We had a wonderful day out travelling from Friedrichshafen to Romanshorn on the ferry and then drove to St Gallen. We are from South Africa so as you can imagine, travelling in Europe is a really great experience. Thank you for making this very informative video, It's lovely to see places that I've been to. I really enjoyed my few holidays with my family, Germany is wonderful, I would move there tomorrow if I could. Thank you again xx

Just to be fair: the US, at that time the largest "producer" of Helium, refused to sell it to Germany. So the Zeppelins had to use Hydrogen.

The US are still holders of the largest (known) stockpile of Helium, which they are selling off in a privatization craze ruining prices and setting us all up for future shortages (most Helium used to simply be skimmed off from natural gas; currently this is not worth the effort due to the US ruining the market)

The other thing is that while lighter than air Helium is quite a bit heavier than Hydrogen so Zeppelins using Helium would need to be substantially larger for the same carrying capability.

The airship that would come to be known as "Hindenburg" was originally designed as a Helium ship and thus larger than it needed to be
