I fixed this by snipping the snap rings and sliding the whole fuel pump assembly off. I fitted the new one (which was a bit smaller and needed new connector ends put on) I then just use new hose clamps where the snap rings were at on the slide posts.
You probably fixed it by now, but for the next person, a few thoughts....The fuel pump is press fit in the cylindrical aluminum housing. First check to see if the aluminum cylinder is bent in a bit at the bottom to hold the existing pump in place. If so, unbend it with channellock slipjoint pliers. The old pump can then be driven down and out with a block of wood and some careful, firm tapping with a hammer. You need to be careful that the force you apply doesn't damage the vertical posts. It is one of those jobs that takes three hands. The replacement pump needs to be snugly held by the housing so that the pump doesn't rotate when in operation and break your wires or the accordion fuel hose. Also, the corrosion on the top plate should be cleaned with fine grit sandpaper and likely a new rubber gasket. Good luck.
Hey dude.... I have a question about that yellow ribbed fuel line ( loop line)... do you remember if that was a really stiff line or was it soft>? ? or do you know if it was a pressure line or a suction line?!
If memory serves...that is a pressure line and I replaced it will new fuel line as the fuel pump I got had a smaller opening and this line had seen better days anyways. Sorry for the late reply.

Just replaced my mountain cat 800 fuel pump, a tap with a screw driver and hammer it comes out, clean it up and new one slides in with just pushing
