My God, my mother was still pregnant with me when this was filmed. Fascinating to see these old out takes when you have only ever seen the finished product.
Oh no, he's fine now. He did King of Comedy in 1982 and for me that was one of his best performances. I love Jerry cos he is so honest - he told everyone about his addiction so others would be more tolerant of drug addiction, He also admitted he was very arrogant at the height of his fame. Like most of us he's flawed. He's 87 now so's he's entitled to a rest.
Jerry is back in a new movie Max Rose. He's 87 and great as usually. He's still very funny and fast in delivering his irony. Many people can't understand his wit.
Google an article entitled "The End of the Jerry Lewis Telethon: It's About Time" Quoting from that article: "The problem with the Jerry Lewis telethon was not that he tried to help people with muscular dystrophy. The problem was the way Jerry Lewis did it. Yes the telethon raised a lot of money. But it also perpetuated destructive stereotypes. Jerry’s message was simple: 'crippled children deserve pity.' His critics offered an alternative: 'people with disabilities deserve respect.'"
(Church lady voice) Goodness gracious, I never heard such language in a movie before - and I thought Jerry Lewis was such a nice, decent young man! What is this world coming to? Tsk Tsk Tsk.
The colour version of this film is on Netflix (UK). It's called 'The Disorderly Orderly', a Lewis classic. Black and white does not mean 'cheap' as you so eloquently put it, more that, these outtakes may have never been converted into colour post filming.
As the US culture has become, generally speaking, more *loutish,* his popularity as a talk show guest has risen in recent years. I think his "appeal" to some people is that they wonder just how obnoxious a grown man can be - a Jerry never fails to deliver. But you're right, he hasn't done much in terms of film in quite a few years.
wonder why he stopped making movies about 1975?If hes a god in france youd think hed make more films there? he probobly has enoughf money and is bored with himself.did he go to dean martins funeral?
Hes still alive though? I guess he went mentely ill in the late 70's thats why he cant do movies anymore. but nhe dioid do the telethones for thr poor un fortunate md.s

Me too. My birthday is a few days after the date on the slate.
Jerry made humor without being profane. He understood about humor and pathos.

Belle nuit Chris !
Sometimes what's not in the movie is funnier than what is in the movie.
Questo vale su molti set se gli attori sono di grande calibro come Jerry Lewis
Outtakes were absolute GENIUS

Back on the days you had to be funny to make funny movies.
(Church lady voice) Goodness gracious, I never heard such language in a movie before - and I thought Jerry Lewis was such a nice, decent young man! What is this world coming to? Tsk Tsk Tsk.
why is it in black and white cheap in those days?
black and white movies are the best

I just saw it in colour on Netflix- it’s full of colour symbolism, so I don’t recommend watching it in black and white or you’ll miss half the fun.

No he wasn't that clean living ...he had a massive prescription drug addiction - says he can't remember a lot of the 1970s and nearly commited suicide
