What a time to live back to 1960's
Elegance, Attitude, expressions of manly look, people were all about the talent not for money! Ahh

I was there - I heard them and met them several times. So grateful

Desmond is like a pure running stream of relaxed lyricism - Brubeck creates jagged, diastrophic formations that push against the rhythm and threaten to explode, but they always hold together. Their opposite perspectives are like Yin and Yang - it's tension and release - they compliment each other beautifully. Brubeck is incredibly intense. It was fortunate for everyone that he was a very kindly, warm-hearted family man. But I'm sure that when it came to music he kept his axe sharp and ready.

I just don't get Dave's solos they annoy the heck out of me. All that pounding on the piano. Not to be rude. I just don't get it.

@@stangetz534 That's fine - they're not for everyone. His piano playing, in a way, was quite avant garde, especially the way he played in the early 50's. He's very orchestral with a bitonal harmonic and poly rhythmical approach - nothing to do with Bud Powel or even bebop for that matter. He had his own thing - just like Monk crafted his own language. Personally, my favorite modern jazz pianists are probably Bill Evans and Hampton Hawes who are very different from each other.

Well said. They have amazed me since I was 14years old and I am 64 now and each new discovery amazed me even more.I am doing a study and compendium of everything I can find about these incredible musicians. Hel me if you can. Wouldn't it be great to have a a DVD compilation of all these times uncovered by fans from concerts here and there?

For a long time (decades) I listened to the DBQ only because I'm a huge Desmond fan, and I never really enjoyed Brubeck's solos. Lately, though, I've learned to appreciate Brubeck more.

Some art just can't be restrained within its timeframe, as it is timeless. This one is exactly of those pieces of art.

That was a hot Brubeck solo. I absolutely adore those rhythmic flights where Wright & Morello hold it down while Brubeck walks the tightrope.

Fantastic music (as usual) from Dave and the boys.. The camera shots and vision mixing spoiled the clip!! Looks like it was directed by a '''Work Experience'' kid, who wasn't a fan of Jazz???

A little boring without Joe Morello’s solos, if you’re a drummer.
