i got a replacement cover for $2 on temu and it fits great without a gap. then i got a nice silicone cover to go over that on e bay for added protection.
couple of tips: this would be a good time to clean your filthy fob with a q-tip and rubbing alcohol before re-assembling. applying a little vaseline around the base of the key allows the key to be inserted into it's holder without the use of pliers. just slides right in..

Thank you for the video. The use of pliers was very helpful in getting the key in the plastic housing.

Thank you so much, saving me a lot of money. I had to replace two keys for my 2009 Lexus. Followed your directions and had no problem. Appreciate you!!

I just ordered the same off Amazon for my '99 Cruiser. In my experience, it's always the backs that have cracked on these fobs over the years. The blade is still firmly in place, so I'm going to try replacing the back only using the old screw first and see if it will seat down enough to hold.

Bought the shell from aliexpress for 2 dollars Canadian. Had to wait two months but what's the rush, the duct tape did the job in the meantime. Thank you for an excellent video.

yes this is my second time changing them, I used a hair dryer to heat up to get the key part in. but its a pain getting the area around the key to close all the way, already cracking as I try and close it up. I bought the silicone cover to hopefully hold it together better

I really liked your video, Some people on amazon where you can buy a new housing/cover remarked about how the new cover did not come together tight at the seems. Just like yours did. One person said they put the new plastic cover in boiling water for a minute to make it more playable. I’m thinking of holding hair dryer on it for a few seconds to warm it up then maybe pieces might slide together easier. Just a thought. My new piece is coming in 2 days So I’ll let you know

Same problem with the key I have, it gets wider towards the end, I had to send it back because it wouldn't fit, but now after looking at your video going to used pliers to get it all the way. thank you.

Good Vid. Did this on my Ls430 key. The gap doesn’t go away even if a shorter skrew is used. Used both the oem shorter one and the one provided, no difference. Only thing is the new screw doesn’t actually thread through the metal threads since it’s too thin. It only threads through the plastic. Not really sure if that’s a bad or good thing

On my key, the blade is still encased in the black plastic of the case. I have a replacement fob, but I haven't changed it yet because it looks like it will take some surgery to cut all the old case from the key blade in my case. All thr old case has to removed from the old key blade before it will fit properly in the new assembly. Mine doesn't look that easy. I'm hesitant to totally break the old blade out.

Just ordered a new shell for my 2002 lexus rx300, was watching to get an idea of what I need to do, great vid, but I think the gap is actually due to the new screw being too long. It's probably bottoming out so it gets tight but stop pulling the top piece, I'd live with it, cut the screw or get a slightly shorter one, or maybe the old screw will thread in

Could be. The new shell after a year of use has cracked. The poor fit could have contributed to the failure.

I've bought 2 now and they both are exactly like yours with the small space. Mine broke again pretty fast. Very annoying problem.
