I love how Emma looks at Alisha when she is talking about success and failure, and how Alisha really looks like she is trying to take in Emma's wisdom. What an incredible mentor to have!
I have seen several interviews with Alisha - really classy in all of them she's nearly entirely praising everyone else, director, co-stars, cast....wonderful collegiality!
Alisha's own mother could not look at her daughter with more pride than the way Emma looks at her. I also love how Emma looks and speaks to Alisha as much as she does the adults. I had a crazy, huge smile on my face the whole time: Alisha has the makings of being a great actress.
I love Emma she's so elegant and lovely seems like such a humble lady. She's amazing. Can't wait to see this film! Talented young actress also Alisha great future ahead.
They're both fantastic, as well as the actress that plays Miss Honey. It's the first movie adaptation of a stage musical I actually thought was successful in getting the material across in a creative and well-told manner. The only aspect I enjoyed about seeing it on Broadway was that I met Jennifer Grey who was in attendance, lol. Some numbers were good (the one cut from the film, "Loud" was performed by the amazing Lesli Margherita), but overall was only okay. The movie version though -- even though I knew the major plot point reveal near the end from the show, it actually made my cry with the movie!
I think the question to Emma turned out okay bc she answered it so well. And I loved how she kind of addressed it one on one with Alisha since the answer was supposed to be meant for her anyways. Seems like they‘ve developed a close relationship. 😊 It’s not a terrible question as yes she had failure but she’s also had and is having success and Alisha can learn from that. But the way or timing that they asked it seemed off so it stood out and seemed random and maybe even rude. It didn’t seem malicious but definitely awkward.
That moment when the lady who plays Ms trenchbol is Ms honey in real life lol. It makes my maternal heart sooo stinkin happy that that sweet precious baby got to act with Emma Thompson. I really don’t think you can be in better hands. I have yet to see any of the movies that lady has done in the last few years lol. I love it when I get to see child actors in great opportunities with caring, safe & talented grownups:) Hoda, Jenna & Emma, it makes my heart happy. & with her supportive family backstage. So sweet. 💖😊🙏🏻
I’m looking forward to the movie. The little girl is adorable for her age. Emma as lovely as ever I’ve been a fan of since Nanny McPhee and Harry Potter
I just saw it, brilliant movie! These two did so great. I have to admit, after years of poor movie musicals, I was somewhat skeptical of this, even after seeing the awesome trailer I still have reservations. But man, they melted away as soon as the film started. This was so amazing.
I just finished watching it and it was amazing! It's interesting that at one point near the end, I actually wondered about landing that leading role and how many kids must have tried out for it. It has to one of the most sought after children's roles ever. They clearly made the right casting choice. Everyone was fantastic!

What the...the question they asked Emma was so out of left field lmao. It could've been worded better, but thankfully Emma handled it with such grace and turned it into a teaching moment. Can't say I'm surprised though. "Failure is good!" 😂
This is one of the best interviews I’ve ever seen. The three women came together to create a life-changing teaching moment. Alicia will remember this advice forever.
Just watched the movie myself, in Danish mind you, and absolutely loved it. While it may be herecy to some of you to watch such a great movie in anything but the original language, keep in mind that I watched the Danish play earlier this year with the songs and all translated as well. I absolutely loved the play, went to see it 4 times in fact, and was devastated to learn that the Danish soundtrack would not be released to the public, so booting up this movie and learning I could watch it in Danish and that all the songs I had come to love were more or less the same, brought a tear to my eye. And I assure you all, that the girl voicing Alisha in Danish does a great job and definitely does the young performer justice.
Alisha inspires me so much as a young stage actress who is around her age I have been doing stage acing for 7 years and this year I decided to audition for the biggest show in my country and callbacks are sometime this week so im super nervous anyways Alisha is Irish and so am i and I found it so amazing that she is only 13 and is a big movie star already and someday I would love to be in a movie its my dream and her British accent is amazing and she just is amazing and so talented!
@@Joe-wt6eh Ireland is not part of Great Britain, actually! But Northern Ireland is part of the UK. Alisha is from Dublin, which is in the Republic of Ireland so she’s Irish, not British. Can definitely be confusing.
As a huge fan of the original novel and the 1996 movies, I loved the musical-to-movie adaptation, and usually I'm not a fan of remakes or new adaptations of old classics. Only thing I was sad about was that the hilarious number "Telly" sung by Mr. Wormwood was left out.
I was thinking that too at first. But, Emma turned it into an opportunity to give that young lady some very good advice that I hope she listens to in the years to come. She has entered a vicious industry at a very young age. And I'm sure Emma realizes that more than most.
WOW for so long i was wanting too see the Matilda The Musical I finally got to see it it is so good I bet it was fun I wish I could of been acting and singing in it
OMG she talks like the woman from Touched by an Angel. I think because I watched that show growing up, I have always associated this irish accident with innocence and purity.
I absolutely love the movie Alisha, My 3 favourite songs is where you had to do p.e, My second is revolting children, my 1st favourite is School Song, thank you for all the great memories, and keep going on your skills! Hope you have a nice day!
It’s very different, very imaginative, almost like a make believe world at times. There are little details that are the same but many things are vastly different from the original movie.
I loved the original movie as well. I just watched this musical version yesterday and it was soooo good. There are differences from the original but the plot of the story is just the same. Emma Thompson and Alisha Weir and the rest of the cast did an amazing job. The songs, wow, so emotional and moving.
I watched this one last night and it was very fun. 1996 is better in some ways, this is better in others - but it is more like apples and... not oranges, but something similar to an apple but a totally different take on it. Both are enjoyable, but I kept comparing the Wormwoods in 1996 to this one, thinking how much more natural those ones were. The Wormwoods in this felt much less fleshed out, but the songs in this were amazing. tl;dr Both are good, just depends on what you are in the mood for.
Man, i didn’t expect to come to this video to find all the American hate. Can people calm down and focus on this fantastic little star? And Dame Emma Thompson?

Totally teared up at 01:58 seeing her excitement getting the part, also, bonus she has pigtails which Trunchbull surely hates lol

Funny how she goes from a child future teacher, to a child controller to a child abuser.

For real, where did that come from 😂
Yeah it seemed catty. Like let’s bring up this thing you failed at and is probably embarrassing. But yeah she definitely handled it well
The interviewers are actually not very good at their jobs. Luckily Thompson is a seasoned pro and styled it out.
