Ed, where is the setting to show the power consumption (in W) for your NVME drives? I've only got the temperature, not the power consumption. BTW, nice video!
@@SpaceinvaderOne I don't have this settings on "Settings" -> "Disk Settings". Do you have a plugin installed to enable this option? I'm using version 6.12.10 and I do have 2 NVME drives.
@SpaceInvaderOne I cant get ed to respond to any of my comments on his videos. Is there a way to email ed? He seems to be the only one that truly understands unraid 7 and Im lost trying to make a vm

Here's a big benefit over other solutions. When you upgrade your ZFS pool by replacing drives, you can easily re-use the drives, mix-and-match in a new Unraid Array. With other solutions you're looking at setting those drives aside unused for make a new smaller pool (not a good option if you've had some drive losses). Personally, I'm really enjoying the Dynamix themes that put the top menu onto the left side of the screen. Quick comment on the ability to have secondary storage and the upgraded mover. The downside of this option is not being able to use the share as Exclusive and the potential performance penalties of using FUSE (multi-pool access to the single share), which may kill the advantage of the faster primary pool altogether. That's certainly the case if using SMB from MacOS.
A small “time” easteregg: when you hover the mouse over the time display it will tell whether the clock is time synchronized with one or more ntp servers
Well they don't call it Beta for nothing; had some issue where I couldn't connect, this morning. Like my connection to the server somehow went to sleep and wouldn't wake. Might be the realtek 8125 NIC, but, either way, exciting stuff!!!
The one question I miss is, when will version 7 be officially released, like a rough date, nothing exact. I would love the new features but I do not want to use the Beat and I want to know how long I`ll have to wait
I agree that if it’s working fine for you as in the superb Array system then don’t mess with it just because a new feature comes along. My Unraid is ticking along nicely as I only use it for Plex. It works immaculately and however tempting it it is try new stuff I’ll be leaving well alne
My wish list: 1. Ability to adjust ZFS memory usage in the GUI. 2. Much better built in system monitoring tools/graphs. 3. Display drive usage % 4. Folder level Passphrase encryption with ability to mount/unmount aka lock/unlock.
I heard a reference to a ZFS subpool. I'm not sure what that is. I know the usual ZFS terminology - vdev, pool, dataset, zvol, etc - but not subpool. A cursory google search didn't really provide any enlightenment either. Maybe a recent feature?
Your videos are really interesting. Could you please make a video on hosting multiple websites (as we host on paid vps or shared hosting companies) on NAS using domain from GoDaddy or etc. as a demo.. it's pros and cons.
I have 2, 2tb drives in a cache pool but i can go on a download spree and the 2tb total space i have fills up fast and I have to wait for mover. Do you have any specifics on how I can setup the cache with 2, 2tb drives, for 4tb total, and have the redundancy on the array like he said?
Totally. I think it implements policy-driven tiered storage - I'm a little fuzzy on the current details. I'm not sure if it permits a flexible storage arrangement with different sized drives, like unraid. Unraid 7 looks cool, but I'm still uncomfortable with putting my data on a proprietary storage system.
Many of us have been running flash drives for 4+ years of uptime. It's better than taking a PCIE lane or SATA/SAS port just to boot an os that runs in RAM If it fails you easily and quickly replace it for cheap. You can also get a very reliable DoM (disk on module) device that is programmable that plugs directly into an internal USB header. No rebuilding, resilvering or burn in required. Just copy files from the backup and up and running in two minutes.
Thanks very much for having me on the Show Robbie. As always really enjoyed myself...... I liked the video so much i clicked the like button twice 😉

Thanks for the rundown of 7. Be great to see performance comparison video between Synology and Unraid ZFS.

zfs is gonna use all the remaining memory that would otherwise be wasted sitting there free
Can't wait to try this !
In he most pictures of unraid, the dashboard by it self is Black gardient. And the top is wihte. Is that a special theme or something?

Unraid array is the products unique selling point - it’s the main thing that attracted me to it - zfs is not essential for a home environment
A timed game demo made me put back the time before it wouldn't run, and indeed suddenly 2FA broke.

which plugin lets you handle your other unraids in the main gui?
Time issues: Windows Update, Surveillance Cameras, Logging etc.
biggest highlight is that it now costs a fortune for a single license if you want updates and more than 6 drives...
A retail key for Windows 11 pro is $200.
There are ways to acquire both unraid and windows for "free" through.

people rather have the usb than always online drm.
