I played him for maybe two hours three damn good strategic matches in a row tricking him out of his cards only to fall short by one or two points because that last card was always what he needed, got a little frustrated so I went to look something up and read this thread, the very next game beat him, so maybe you have a lucky spot here
One of the main keys to win is to have a dummy card (because he'll use a spie card as well, and you can use his spie card to your advantage by trading with your dummy card), a spie card for 2 more cards, and a plus heart card to reuse any spie card from the previous round(s).
He's really the most annoying and disgusting card player in all of the witcher, I've never played in a card game against an opponent who drew 8 cards in a round, he's just annoying and I'm glad that there is a solution video at all
Even after watching this video I lost 😞 ima noob and only played the tutorial gwent game at the beginning. Lol 😂 funny thing is as soon as I lost I took one step out the bar and there was a damn Witcher hunter waiting for me lol level 23 and I’m level 7 beat my ass and took my coin. But I’m coming for his ass once I level up!
I have Vernon Roche and some other good cards, and he still beats my ass. I think you have to let him win the 1st round and not rely on close combat cards because he always uses biting frost.
It infuriates me when I have to listen to dialogue for anything after I lose and want to retry but when I have to listen to snarky or cocky lines or aggravates me and that feeling isn’t beaten by the satisfaction of winning. Just spoils my mood because I’ve heard that line repeatedly. This guy has to be one of the worst cases of that.
I beat him with 3 clear weather, 3 normal archers (can't remember powers, but all were below 7), 2 dummies, 1 frost card and 1 dun banner medic (+ 2 normal archers and 1 catapult and 1 blue stripes commando, that came from the 2 spys from stjepan after I used dummies for them) and 1 fog card at the start of round 2. So nice video but nothing special. And damn you got so lucky during round 2, like really lucky.
this video makes it look so easy, and yet I always come SO CLOSE but can't quite cut it
And of course 5 minutes after making that comment I win. The old Blizzard adage is true then: Bitch and ye shall receive lol
Same just happened to me
Same lol., next time I’ll add 3 “dummy” cards. When he plays spy cards I’ll switch em’ out..

lol i just made it first try. He just played fog and proceeded to place 6 ranged cards, effectively screwing himself
Gwent feels luck based since your decks are randomly chosen
With me, the guy is using 10 point archer cards, scorch card and multiple spies...wtf
the old medic opening
Has a horn and other cards. Not basic deck.

OMG this! I equipped decoys and a clear weather and kept stealing his spies and it worked like a charm! Thank you so much for your comment.
Using medic on 1st turn? Something I don't get?
yeah, right?? i was like “wtf”
Agreed. I like to use a decoy card with a medic and then replay it.
I sitting here like “you dummy!”
This dog has like 5 spies

not a basic deck. half the cards in your decklist have to be purchased or won :/
Captain D Cap it's basic in the sense it doesn't include Hero cards
Freedom Anon oh what the fuck ever, that’s not special. By the time you reach him, you wouldn’t have any.
@Brandon Grief No, because I came all the way to him specifically to get my first hero card

"Come back when you know how to play"
*Literally cheats and blocks your leader ability because he says so*
