I am 72 and saw their original video only about 4 years ago. I never get tired of that pretty boy band and the fabulous song. Don't know how I missed it, though I was immersed in my career and family. What a great, iconic song!
I’m Swedish, and I’m also a musician, singer, guitarrist and song writer. Europe was one of the bands my dad used to play a lot when I was little, and of course Final countdown was our favorite song. I also wanted to say, Annie seems to love her ”good vibes” t-shirt, I’ve seen it on her a lot xD
Cool idea.. once a week switch places.. have her show you a song that she likes and tell you about it and have you react. I think that would be interesting
One of Sweden's proudest music exports! Fun fact, Europe became famous when they won Rock SM (Swedish Rock Championships), a televised rock band competition in 1982! They won a record deal and 1983 they droped this classic album featuring this super hit!
I grew up in the same small town as Europe, Upplands Väsby, John Leven (bass) went to same school as me, his brother, Rikard Leven-, was in my sisters class. Followd them since 1982 when they won Rock SM in Sweden. Great guys all of them!
I remember the first time I heard this song, I was walking past the record store (Annie, that's a shop where we used to have to BUY music) in my local mall and I heard the opening keyboard riff. I stopped, listened for a few seconds, then walked in and said, "what is this awesomeness and give it to me." I was about 16 at the time.
I Lived in Uppands-Väsby at the time in mid-eighties when they were at their height and the members of Europe lived in Väsby, well John Norum in the band has a sister named Tone Norum whom I helped out when she had problems with her car, I didn't reflect over who she is at the time and got that knowledge a while later, she also got into music, and though I didn't get starstruck it felt kind' a nice when she said "hello" when we met... She also had a couple of hits :) I also had the pleasure to see the band live a couple of times in the early days !
This is a little info about wacken Almost all varieties of hard rock and metal are represented at the festival. It is one of the largest heavy metal festivals in the world and one of the largest open air festivals in Germany. Between 2011 and 2019, the number of participants was around 85,000 people, including 75,000 paying visitors.
I think this is one of the videos that Annie was really into it!! She looks like she was loving the song and the massive crowd! Pretty sure she wanted to be there for that live for sure!!!
When I was at Wacken in 2008 I managed to get almost to the front when Airbourne played by following all the crowd surfers. And when Iron Maiden played it was so full that some people couldn't even get inside the security gates that separates the area where the stages are and the rest of the festival. Also, a funny thing about being up front and being squashed. At that Iron Maiden concert, my friend, who's a huge Iron Maiden fan, had waited up front from like 12:00 until they started playing around 21:00, and during the first seconds of the first song (Aces High) everyone basically went apeshit crazy and he was pushed back like 30 meters.
This is a really universal song. You can see it clearly in the crowd. Old rockers at their 60s having a great time beside children at their 15s, all listening to this. Also, people from different countries relate to this song since it is commonly used for sports events and winning titles. In the end it is a great song by a great band that makes you really really smile.
Just wanted to say the reason that the crowd is so large is that it is Wacken, a festival with multiple bands. They are not all there to see Europe. I have been to many Europe gigs in the last few years and the crowds are really not that much of a mix of ages, and nowhere near this big. Yeah you will get the odd young fan etc, but mostly its middle aged people like me.
Europe are awesome amazing hard working band, they have released countless live stuff and albums since reunion in 2003 you should react more songs, like in the future to come from first album in 83 and also lying eyes, wasted time from 84, newer stuff start from the dark, walk the earth (latest album) amon other great songs they made trough the 30+ years
Yeah! Do some more Europe ;) They have many great songs! I've seen them live one time, awsome! This may be the first time I've seen Annie impressed over a guitarsolo? =D
First gig I took my son to, aged ten. Front row europe ands he's a total metal head now....we've seen them the eleven years since and they are awesome every time. People expect a poodle rocker band and they are simply amazing ...joeys vocals are as per the record every time,......amazing!
I used to despise this song at one point because of the synth, but I love it now. And we all have to admit that Geico commercial with the guy microwaving the burrito while they play this song is hilarious.
I got to see Joey back in 1989 at the Hammersmith Apollo as a guest of Darren Wharton's new band Dare. I had never seen Europe live, though I knew their music, I managed to miss their Uk shows, mostly because they were a little to pretty, I was more into the heavier music back then. When Joey came on stage the crowd got a little quiet, it was pretty clear I wasn't alone in my music tastes, anyways, I have to say this, Joey is one of a very small number of singers that sounds better live than recorded (at least at that time) he rocked that theater.

We were putting out our third album and we wanted a really “grand” opening for the show. Some program on Vh1 was talking about going to there show. Some dude said they opened up with that song and then after the song they closed with that song. So they played it twice! Kind of funny.
It’s one of those songs where within the first few notes you know the song (think “Bittersweet Symphony” or “Don’t Stop Believing”); you may not necessarily be a fan of the group or singer but it doesn't matter.
note to Annie, almost all music instrument shops that have any online access are still shipping. So getting guitar even during quarantine is not problem.
Damn, I remember when that opening riff came on and all that hair starting flying back in the day when MTV actually played music videos. Oh the good "old" days. Hey Annie I like your yellow M&M mug, I got the blue one. :)

Subscribed because you were honest that you had heard it before, I came across a channel that just weren't honest, or at least didn't do anything to convince me, there were just too many songs that he just must have heard at some point. Thank you for being honest! And yes, let her get her nose pierced :), let her be her!
Every new years party I went to, as the countdown began, this song would play. How is pokeys head not moving? Its inhuman. I just start headbanging and singing the chorus, involuntarily.
This song is an anthem for Greek Basketball National team since 1987. It was the favorite song of some of the players and they requested to play before any match. That year we won the gold in the world cup and that song just stuck and reminds us this trophy. Also let Annie pierce her nose if she wants it. It's not a big deal.
Get your facts right Wind of Change is the song played during the fall of the Berlin Wall! I remember it going up, and there couldn't be a better song for it coming down, '86 FC, '89 Scorpions
Wacken is just great. Different people, from different layers, different nations but all one in spirit. Wheelchair users are also lifted here and can surf.

Excellent band they are so much more than this one song seen them live 4 times, have all their 11 albums they rock hard✌
Subscribed because you were honest that you had heard it before, I came across a channel that just weren't honest, or at least didn't do anything to convince me, there were just too many songs that he just must have heard at some point. Thank you for being honest! And yes, let her get her nose pierced :), let her be her!
You should also hear one more iconic song, "We are the Champions" by The Queen.
Seems like all of Upplands Väsby had met up for the concert.
It's funny (arguably) the two biggest new years anthems are Swedish - this one and ABBA's happy new year.
Every new years party I went to, as the countdown began, this song would play.
How is pokeys head not moving? Its inhuman. I just start headbanging and singing the chorus, involuntarily.
Love your videos! Been watching for a while. I could teach Annie acoustic guitar for no charge. I don't have much else to do during these times.
1980s: the final countdown
today: the final lockdown
This one gets the most visable reactions from Miss "I don't headbang". :)
