One of my first larps where i stepped in to "Monster" (crew), as a new player - good for newbies who aren't confident fighters and wanna really get stuck into the lore of the game. So we're dressed up in black robes and masks, given daggers to conceal in our robes. We're like cultists. We're told that a faction has a "Cursed sword" and they're discussing how to go around clensing it as a ritual. The sword is sentient and not happy. So we're the ghosts of the blade. We walk in with palm up (OOC, ignore us) and begin whispering angrily to people in the meeting tent, walking circles around the 20 or so players, most of whom are decently stat'd out. It intensifies, while they're still trying to talk. We only have one vet larper among our batch, a ref observing. Our vet gets the nod to strike with the dagger. "I've been cut!" The entire meeting stand up, then begin to shuffle out into the open air. Getting cut and cursed at as they go. It's pitch black outside, no lights. And they form a circle to protect each other's backs with swords and shields. One of ours somehow was in the middle when they formed up and just hurls abuse from behind in hissing whispers as we circle. The rest of the camp (another 40 odd people) begin to hear the shouts and cries of battle, heading over to investigate. After about 30mins of abusing these poor guys, we're told to no longer 'respawn' as they were busy doing their ritual, while all this was ongoing. The last to leave was of course the one in the circle~ Was a lot of fun!
I FOUGHT AGAINST YOU IN THE FIRST BATTLE!!! I was one of the skargen with a spear, and it was my mate who dueled you. Once we saw you, our boatlord (general) told us to go against all orders, and killing you 😂😂. My favourite story was actually not as a skargen, but as a settler in tross. I was walking around with about 5 guys. We were sneaking into tross, so we shushed on everybody, as in EVERYBODY. When we were walking around in tross, even "real" players were shushing us. Out of the blue, some Random shady street salesman, wanted to sell us a blessing from a god. He wanted 5 Copper for the blessing, but since we were skargen, we didnt have any money. So instead we paid him with a letter, written in skargen runes. We then made a circle. He lit some smoke, and started going around us and chant "the god." We then started chanting with him. But everytime we started talking a bit louder we would shush eachother, and Then started chanting "the god" again. Until we spoke to loud again. After 2 minutes of chanting and shushing. We were blessed by a god. All of us were super happy, and celebrated by buying milkshakes to all of us.
Story of THE CURSE. So, we were invited to one of the "local mafia" camps. They had a temple where you could try to summon an ancestor spirit, and one of them would show up: either the spirit of luck or bad luck (you just flip a special coin). I got the unlucky one. He ended up cursing with bad luck me for several hours, but then I could give that curse to anyone I wished. The mafia told me to be careful with walking, eating, even going to the toilet (I could fall inside the hole and be taken by a shit-demon), stuff like that. I played along with the clumsiness for some time, then decided the curse was getting weaker. MISTAKE. Because instead of in-game stuff, real-life unscripted shit started to happen. First, we were arranging Fox's meeting with the undead. We had the time and place, but 10 minutes before we arrived at the undead camp (which was on the battlefield), they had been driven away by "alias forces." Then my friend got cocky because of the drugs we got from the mafia and lost a duel with one of the undead. That guy just took my sword and cut my friend's hand off with it. When we came to the Dendronia camp to tell about it, one of the weapons leaning against the fence just started to FALL on me out of the blue. I think it was a halberd, so it's good I jumped back in time. And of course, we had to scream at Fox for that. We finished the curse off by drinking a lot of wine. And now I have the power to give it to somebody else next year...
I went to a lot that was more like a card game my first lark this year at Otakon in Baltimore. It was the 30th anniversary of the Con so they did that this guy was taking people to defeat the bad guy because this is destroying existence and this one was and was like I missed most of the story was a little confused, but they had a bunch of characters made, and you could pick them. They were characters from different animes. I picked Kagome from Inuyasha. I'm like introducing myself to people and who like every time I get into thing I'd be like who's the bad guy who can I sit who can't put the necklace on like so lost I'm not able to figure anything out. I'm like I need to either somebody or shoot somebody With my bow and arrow I'm like I wanna go hunting in the wilderness. We need pelts for clothes and like one of the guys got everything because he can make anything. I think it was a female character that he was playing, but I was like stuck to him because he could like a lot more. He seem to be the most skilled whatever, everybody wanted to do Kronos so him and me decided to do the second female character that was like doing good ended up actually being bad but good just like chases bad but good it's good intentions, but they're doing things there bad in the end so I'm not even 100% when exactly what's what but it was going and then come out and not too many people stayed the whole time at the end of the Con . We got a little leather dice bag, but they had us each fight. One of the three bosses and like the three bosses are all one just different personas of the same boss, and after everybody split into groups and defeat, the three bosses, they feed in and there's the last battles done and everybody takes turns doing something one person was like trying to attack the boss and then they did a time rewind and like this one and this one can remember it because they're not affected by time the protect from the attack and then because they don't want that character to get the poweranother one just hugs him like feels sorry for him because it was bad but not ambiguous motives and we have to save the galaxy or the universe or whatever existence all the people that they wanted to as a group they would be OK with getting the power cause whoever took the last strike, got the power of the time and space and everything and unlimited knowledge so it was back-and-forth people trying to stop some of the people from getting the power and then everyone else didn't want the power the people who they wanted to, and there was like this whole back-and-forth. It's like everybody was fighting to stop others from getting the power and when it came to my turn, we did it based on more like DND than a real, it was a good first step, but when it came to my turn I did sit I was doing the second the boss the main boss said I don't have the necklace. I'm like I did the necklace on my boss when I did my battle we got the necklace on her and I thought you said you were all the same different person as the same person like like OK so I won the other persona says yup. Yup she got us necklace during my fight. I just kept sitting and everybody else attacked one of the guys was like he didn't wanna use his massive bomb so he was like or she, Izzy was like I'm going to, call Bugs Bunny one of the MPC or something comes over to our table and he gives him instructions to take the bomb to whichever of the other is doing worse one of the other tables a massive bomb to do some damage on these extreme beings with God like power because ours couldn't attack sit whether I win or lose their down and standing up, took their turn so they couldn't attack there was one point where they had a book that they gave and passed around everybody that was in the junk keep to go through the junk of all kinds of old cards, which is items and there's like food ingredients and you can use any item and that represents flower and they want lots of flour in everything and there's this big contest and I was third place and everyone else that won one and two teams I was solo so like it was so epic for a first time I got a prize which I never ended up using because like time and I didn't get much there as I would have because I was working so many hours as a Gopher for the convention and I was going back-and-forth between that and I still barely got to go do anything, but it was fun Every bite was like making these speeches about being lied to it was funny. I loved it. There is a Discord LARP Central that they're part of a big community that is within conventions and I go this convention every year, so it's cool so I get to control time and space in that world. It was so cool. I just finished with. Sit.

Hi Kit and Maddie! It was so much fun being the "little cousin" this year! The potion spiking was definitely a highlight of mine too. Fun fact though, Fox was chosen after I asked Beol who I should use the meow potion on, and I took a general group vote as well. Crow was collateral. Whoops.... YOU WERE THERE?? YOU FILMED ME AND MY FRIENDS?? I'm the blonde undead with the wavy strawhat at 40:47! I'm happy to hear you had fun play with my colleagues. This year I had a lot of play with players through plot-items (the blue bottles) and the atelier! We had a whole discussion/law-suit with Black Dynasty there which was fun, and we did multiple blackbox scenes with players. These moments and the sneak mission we organized on Friday were my favorite moments. They're a really good way to share and play with the lore with players :D

A guy from the Feste der Vielfalt/Fortress of Diversity here! I so wanted to get to your camp to say hi but I thought it was just me bleeding into my game, so I refrained myself to meet you. But I guess I saw Maddie at the first audience with the Black Prince since I was one of the ambassadors so I was taking notes. That was an awesome experience though
You should make a big tome for people at your camp or other camps to write stories to fuel your magic powers. Then bring those plus a new tome to future events because there will always be a story to tell

Actually, if you want to be specific here, we gave you a proposal and you said we weren't demanding enough, but then you ALSO said you'd get back to us about your decision. So it's us who have been waiting, dear Commander ;) But since the Commander is obviously never wrong, we will henceforth assume that it is our fault and that you most gracious forgive our oversight. Would you like a new proposal with amendments, and if so, in which way or form? ;)

So three good stories from me: (Skargen NPC) During one of the battles, my intire group pulled out latex and and started beating up the people we were fighting. My group captured and elf, drained her blood and send her back in berserk. The look on her face when she told me about it afterwards was priceless. And my partner comming back to our camp and said "I met Mystic from Skiltree, and i was in their camp" made me jealous!

I only ever had like 5 copper to my name xD We were "entrusted" with the funds of our dear camp leaders, and I like to think we spent the money wiseley. I don't even remember the actual amount, it was sth around either 6 or 9 silver. But we would've happily spent all the money we had for sure ^^ i think that would've been more like 20 silver

So, a decade ago I tried to start a crew for an event called Seadog Nights that was an eight hour drive from me, with some of my local associates. I failed hard at the logistics. Could we have an episode regarding those mythical spreadsheets and other planning needed to host an encampment?

Super cool video, I don't know if you go to Conquest last year but it can explain why burgschneider had so much preparation to avoid a new Mudodea. I hope I can tell you some story next year ( or maybe at the Chroniken of Mythodea if you do it) cause what make the undead flesh rotten is the curse of Terra, Terra is a godess but not a undead one, but maybe we can share some informations about lore. I enjoy a lot playing with Petrus, Jijig, Vincent and Grace / Wonda, and they seems to like playing the Caradocian game (the Caradoc Compagny is my group in the Feste der Vielfalt) called Traderidera. It was mostly just a dappling of brown and orange water-based makeup (we used Mehron Paradise). If people are interested in a LARP makeup video, Madi basically wrote an essay on it with how many notes she took preparing for this LARP 🤣

I really hope you run another camp in 2026! I will almost certainly be unable to make it next year (will be freshly graduated from college and probably desperately searching for a job), but once I am all settled, this looks like so much fun!
So they are basically tolpas. Like from super natural. The more belief is pored into a creature, the more real it becomes. Only they are feeding off the magic that belief creates? Do I have that right? Pretty cool actually.
I love that "Beol on a bike" became a thing. What I feel is an often overlooked aspect of worldbuilding is the idioms, the oaths and curses, the "old sayings" and figures of speech that are all too often just co-opted from "the real world" and that can really break the sense of immersion for the whole experience. Like if you were engaging in some high-fantasy media and a siege commander calling out to the soldiers operating a line of trebuchets instead of saying something "period appropriate" he yells out "Yeet thine stones o'er yon ramparts, we finna storm those gates no cap." I mean obviously that's a rather extreme example but there have been movies, books, games, etc. in which a character will spout some saying or proverb or whatever that is commonplace for us and makes complete sense in OUR world because it references some person or event or object or lived experience we know and/or can relate to (e.g. "Holy tap-dancing Christ" in a setting where Christianity would not have existed, or "its raining cats and dogs" in a world where even domesticated animals are anything but mundane) but in context leaves me thinking "but how would they even know what that is?" Now, granted if bicycles are not "lore accurate" to the Conquest universe it could have a similarly incongruous effect i.e. "I know of Beol but what in the Nine Realms is this 'bike' of which you speak," but still it has that familiar/relatable element to it that makes it feel like an oath/curse someone in that world would utter. You may well have affected the common vernacular of this world inadvertently. As of yet I have not had a LARP experience myself. It certainly sounds intriguing but as both an introvert and largely a homebody I'm not sure I'd know what to do with myself. In some ways I think it would be easier to run an encampment or be a "vendor/npc" of some kind because then I'd have both a set role and a set place and I'd just zero in on that the whole time. I mean I love playing Skyrim but I've had literally years to wander around and explore; I feel like at one of these LARPS whether it's a day, a week, or even a full month I'd spend far too much of the time experiencing weapons-grade choice paralysis with too much to do to know where to even begin much less have any end-goals in mind. Still, I'd love to try it some day.

when that song hits your ears it`s to late to beol (even on a bike) it´s catchy. It´ll stay for a while. I can see the story vampires...I mean story collecting Fey turning into a strong faction. Maybe you create a ladder game and trade stories in exchange for objects (for inspiration I recommend the bookversion of "the wheel of time" with the foxes and the snakes).

One of the three bosses and like the three bosses are all one just different personas of the same boss, and after everybody split into groups and defeat, the three bosses, they feed in and there's the last battles done and everybody takes turns doing something one person was like trying to attack the boss and then they did a time rewind and like this one and this one can remember it because they're not affected by time the protect from the attack and then because they don't want that character to get the poweranother one just hugs him like feels sorry for him because it was bad but not ambiguous motives and we have to save the galaxy or the universe or whatever existence all the people that they wanted to as a group they would be OK with getting the power cause whoever took the last strike, got the power of the time and space and everything and unlimited knowledge so it was back-and-forth people trying to stop some of the people from getting the power and then everyone else didn't want the power the people who they wanted to, and there was like this whole back-and-forth. It's like everybody was fighting to stop others from getting the power and when it came to my turn, we did it based on more like DND than a real, it was a good first step, but when it came to my turn I did sit I was doing the second the boss the main boss said I don't have the necklace. I'm like I did the necklace on my boss when I did my battle we got the necklace on her and I thought you said you were all the same different person as the same person like like OK so I won the other persona says yup. Yup she got us necklace during my fight. I just kept sitting and everybody else attacked one of the guys was like he didn't wanna use his massive bomb so he was like or she, Izzy was like I'm going to, call Bugs Bunny one of the MPC or something comes over to our table and he gives him instructions to take the bomb to whichever of the other is doing worse one of the other tables a massive bomb to do some damage on these extreme beings with God like power because ours couldn't attack sit whether I win or lose their down and standing up, took their turn so they couldn't attack there was one point where they had a book that they gave and passed around everybody that was in the junk keep to go through the junk of all kinds of old cards, which is items and there's like food ingredients and you can use any item and that represents flower and they want lots of flour in everything and there's this big contest and I was third place and everyone else that won one and two teams I was solo so like it was so epic for a first time I got a prize which I never ended up using because like time and I didn't get much there as I would have because I was working so many hours as a Gopher for the convention and I was going back-and-forth between that and I still barely got to go do anything, but it was fun Every bite was like making these speeches about being lied to it was funny. I loved it. There is a Discord LARP Central that they're part of a big community that is within conventions and I go this convention every year, so it's cool so I get to control time and space in that world. It was so cool. I just finished with. Sit.

It was so much fun being the "little cousin" this year! The potion spiking was definitely a highlight of mine too. Fun fact though, Fox was chosen after I asked Beol who I should use the meow potion on, and I took a general group vote as well. Crow was collateral. Whoops.... But hey, you two, half the camp, and the Crimson company higher-ups all meowing? I think I've found my niche xD. It'll only get better from here!

YOU WERE THERE?? YOU FILMED ME AND MY FRIENDS?? I'm the blonde undead with the wavy strawhat at 40:47! I'm happy to hear you had fun play with my colleagues. This year I had a lot of play with players through plot-items (the blue bottles) and the atelier! We had a whole discussion/law-suit with Black Dynasty there which was fun, and we did multiple blackbox scenes with players. These moments and the sneak mission we organized on Friday were my favorite moments. They're a really good way to share and play with the lore with players :D

A guy from the Feste der Vielfalt/Fortress of Diversity here! I so wanted to get to your camp to say hi but I thought it was just me bleeding into my game, so I refrained myself to meet you. But I guess I saw Maddie at the first audience with the Black Prince since I was one of the ambassadors so I was taking notes. That was an awesome experience though
You should make a big tome for people at your camp or other camps to write stories to fuel your magic powers. Then bring those plus a new tome to future events because there will always be a story to tell

So three good stories from me: (Skargen NPC)
During one of the battles, my intire group pulled out latex and and started beating up the people we were fighting.
My group captured and elf, drained her blood and send her back in berserk. The look on her face when she told me about it afterwards was priceless.
And my partner comming back to our camp and said "I met Mystic from Skiltree, and i was in their camp" made me jealous!

We were "entrusted" with the funds of our dear camp leaders, and I like to think we spent the money wiseley. I don't even remember the actual amount, it was sth around either 6 or 9 silver. But we would've happily spent all the money we had for sure ^^ i think that would've been more like 20 silver

I hope I can tell you some story next year ( or maybe at the Chroniken of Mythodea if you do it) cause what make the undead flesh rotten is the curse of Terra, Terra is a godess but not a undead one, but maybe we can share some informations about lore. I enjoy a lot playing with Petrus, Jijig, Vincent and Grace / Wonda, and they seems to like playing the Caradocian game (the Caradoc Compagny is my group in the Feste der Vielfalt) called Traderidera. I really hope you run another camp in 2026! I will almost certainly be unable to make it next year (will be freshly graduated from college and probably desperately searching for a job), but once I am all settled, this looks like so much fun!

So they are basically tolpas. Like from super natural. The more belief is pored into a creature, the more real it becomes. Only they are feeding off the magic that belief creates? Do I have that right? Pretty cool actually.
I love that "Beol on a bike" became a thing. What I feel is an often overlooked aspect of worldbuilding is the idioms, the oaths and curses, the "old sayings" and figures of speech that are all too often just co-opted from "the real world" and that can really break the sense of immersion for the whole experience. Like if you were engaging in some high-fantasy media and a siege commander calling out to the soldiers operating a line of trebuchets instead of saying something "period appropriate" he yells out "Yeet thine stones o'er yon ramparts, we finna storm those gates no cap." I mean obviously that's a rather extreme example but there have been movies, books, games, etc. in which a character will spout some saying or proverb or whatever that is commonplace for us and makes complete sense in OUR world because it references some person or event or object or lived experience we know and/or can relate to (e.g. "Holy tap-dancing Christ" in a setting where Christianity would not have existed, or "its raining cats and dogs" in a world where even domesticated animals are anything but mundane) but in context leaves me thinking "but how would they even know what that is?"
Now, granted if bicycles are not "lore accurate" to the Conquest universe it could have a similarly incongruous effect i.e. "I know of Beol but what in the Nine Realms is this 'bike' of which you speak," but still it has that familiar/relatable element to it that makes it feel like an oath/curse someone in that world would utter. You may well have affected the common vernacular of this world inadvertently.
As of yet I have not had a LARP experience myself. It certainly sounds intriguing but as both an introvert and largely a homebody I'm not sure I'd know what to do with myself. In some ways I think it would be easier to run an encampment or be a "vendor/npc" of some kind because then I'd have both a set role and a set place and I'd just zero in on that the whole time. I mean I love playing Skyrim but I've had literally years to wander around and explore; I feel like at one of these LARPS whether it's a day, a week, or even a full month I'd spend far too much of the time experiencing weapons-grade choice paralysis with too much to do to know where to even begin much less have any end-goals in mind. Still, I'd love to try it some day.
