  • An entry introduction to the wonderful 8-bit Atari games lineup. This is just a small fraction of what is available.

One of my favourite game collections, the Atari 8-bits have some excellent versions of the games too.
You are right about the cartridges been very hard to come by, the XE GS cartridges are quite common over here and you can get most of them with boxes too, but the others is purely coming across them by chance.
I have a Atarimax Compact Flash cartridge and it works really well.

I have a pretty big 2600 collection. I might do a 8-bit Atari collection someday. Cool stuff man.

I have both an Atari 400 computer and an Atari 800XL computer, so I have a small collection of Atari 8-bit computer games. My games are in cartridges, cassettes tapes & 5.25 inches disks. My Pac-Man (Atari) on cartridge have no intermissions, but my Pac-Man (DataSoft) on 5.25 inches disks have all of the intermissions. Both of these Pac-Man games are identical otherwise because they were programmed by the same person only a few years apart from each other.

John, I love your videos. A-8 is my favorite system to collect! I eschewed the Atari consoles in favor of the 8 bits, best versions of many games, great homebrews etc. I recommend to anyone who wants to play the pre NES games anger is turned off by the rawness of the 2600.

I used to work at a recording studio in the early/mid nineties that had two older Atari computers setup for digital audio recording. For games we would play DOOM on the 486 DX66 though. Cool vid man

LOL whole time I'm watching this I'm noticing the coco game manuals in the top left corner :D You should do a video on your coco collection John. Great video though, absolutely love the Atari 8-bit games.

+atarileaf I should, now that I have an official loose set of the games(minus the rarethird party stuff). BTW, I really like your videos as well, very informative.

It's not a game system. It's a home computer that happens to have excellent video and sound chips. It was originally going to be a game system but Atari made it into a home computer due to the success of Apple Computers.

The ATARI 8bit computer line was the BEST graphics PC of the 8bit line. It was way better than the Apple2 and Commodore 64!

Hey John, I'm from Brazil, simply love your work, I was 6 years old in 1985 when I first saw and started to play atari, such glorious times. You should consider a new cam and then re-do all your videos with better video quality. Your collection is golden, it deserves better quality. Please consider doing this.

+Rodrigo Figueiredo Truth betold, I want to have my collection in a museum someday. I would like to have more time and resources to do this, and hopefully I will in the future.

I hope to be able to track an Atari 8bit computer down one of these days. I found a couple of sources to get Atari 2600 game cartridges, and plan on getting myself to flea markets and garage sales where I live, as who knows I might even find an Atari 8bit computer one of these days.
