this song has confirmed my suspicions that Jazz Emu is a genius songwriter. the whole first part is fantastic, and while I'm not too hot on the bridge, the second part is also masterful in its subversions, and how it turns this comedy song into an emotional journey. one of his best works fo sure
I think personally that the bridge fits overall with the themes of unrequited love and unrequited feelings in general. I think when you feel so strongly about someone it’s quite easy to feel upset or offended, you feel as if you are offering a piece of yourself and they are rejecting it and by extension you. I’m very happy Jazz Emu represented this portion of unrequited love, as so often songs about longing focus entirely on the ‘woe is me, I’m suffering so much’, without showing the quite nasty and toxic part of feeling angry or upset with the other person because you so firmly believe that you’re the one suffering, and not sparing a thought for how forcing them to love you would cause them to suffer. Furthermore, I think it makes the finale so much more meaningful as for the first two verses we have the deception and pressuring of the other party to reciprocate romantic feelings, then the cut away at finally being rejected, and the anger in the face of that, followed by that realisation that you cannot force someone to love you and to do so will only give you a false relationship, not one borne of genuine feelings, but instead fear. Sorry I wrote an essay, I just really like that being there as someone who loves the representation of the messier parts of relationships and emotions.
The ending is so cozy, the effects and background alongside the bittersweet acceptance that he can't force love with a sweet outro track... It genuinely brings a tear to my eye.

The big moment from 1:53-2:10 is such a disorienting change in meter. I'm not sure if I'm correct in saying it's eight bars of 5, a four bar pattern repeated once. Each "Yeah" is three beats followed by straight 8ths, leading into a measure that's entirely syncopated until the fifth beat. The last two bars of the pattern are more straightforwardly in 5, but man. Terrific musicianship to gracefully obscure the meter beneath the outburst of scorned affection.
ive been obsessed witj this song the ending makes me so sad every time .. i did research on Mauritius and everything .. i love all the wiggly noises in the song but it makes me cry !
what a philosphical love song. hoergupjelly is like love. It cannot be found anywhere concretely and some deny or doubt its existence as it seems to exist within (sometimes convoluted) fabrication, yet it cannot exist indefinitely within a lie. it can be tasted in a kiss but that also happens to be the taste of human lips. The promise to take your lover to an exotic place but not being able to due to finances but promising to deliver the essence of that land through love is also very sweet
Oh, that's just marvellous -- I'm really enjoying every layer of your work; and somebody should tell Weird Al, he should be delighted that traditions the weird and musical are being carried so lovelily.

yo damn glad you got recommended to me this song feels important
what a philosphical love song. hoergupjelly is like love.
I always look forward to your album releases and music videos! This was an absolute banger :)
I'm in love with your music Jazz Emu !!
Oh, that's just marvellous -- I'm really enjoying every layer of your work; and somebody should tell Weird Al, he should be delighted that traditions the weird and musical are being carried so lovelily.
I always come back to this one. The first time i heard this i cried lmao. Jazz is that powerful.
I gotta remember to thank VS for introducing your beauty to me
Your lyrics and flow are impeccable and I love everything about you
I'd just like to add in that the wobbly sound? ✨sublime✨
this sounds like the evolution of Lemon Demon and i'm here for it
A true icon for the present day
The 9 people who disliked this have probably never tasted Hœrgüpjelly. Philistines.
Ok what I was not expecting to be emotionally drop-kicked by Jazz Emu of all people today
But it happened and I am profoundly glad of it
Hello again I am back to putting this song on repeat, and it is making me feel simultaneously better and worse which is exactly what I needed so thank you
that got really real, real quick
This is honestly some of you best work ❤️
I saw the title than searched Hœrgüpjelly on google, all I saw were links to jazz emus social media. And then I listened to the whole song of something he very clearly made up, he bamboozled me.
This one of those songs i want people to hear me listening and singing to it.
A "comedy" song has no right being this good
The sound of this is so pleasing
This feels like a surrealist nightmare version of the Continental skits with Walken on snl. Also I feel like there is no way this whole this wasn't just written around that strange arcane looking jello mold.
