I've lived in kitchener for over 40 years. We are not in the snowbelt. I used my snowblower maybe 4 times last winter. I grew up in Goderich which is in the snowbelt and the amount of snow there is brutal. Kitchener is also a low area and a lot of harsh weather goes around us. This used to be not a bad place to live but it has turned into a dump. As soon as I retire I'll be selling my house and moving far away from here
And that pretty much goes with any town. You will always have those pockets that you should try to avoid. Hence why, so crucial to work with a local professional who is well aware of those pockets.
Hey Darlene, I am sharing my perspective of some drawbacks Kitchener has just like any other town. I live here and me and my family love it. But I know some people may not want to settle with these cons in which case Kitchener won't be best suited for them.
Where did you get your Data that Kitchener Snows on Average more then 15 - 20% more than in Brampton? I'd love to see more about this. Because I think you are 100% right. I grew up in KW, and now live in Guelph but even in the East side of Guelph I know there is a lot less snow. Which I'm thankful.
I got it from Weather Network website. Yes, that's one part I don't like about Kitchener. The further east you go, better it gets. I am sure you are not missing that extra shoveling now that you left us. Cheers. 🙌
Kitchener's core is actually built on a marsh. Flooding can happen, depending on spring rain and soil. 33 years here; I've seen it happen. That being said, not very common.
With soaring Real Estate prices over last few years, everyone is looking to find a balance between affordability and lifestyle. Windsor has certainly gained attention with those looking to escape unaffordable GTA home prices and rents.
You are doing the work of a saint by trying to keep people from coming to Kitchener however it has already lost it's identity long long ago. It is out of control now compared to what it used to be, and most of that is because everyone from the GTA sold their higher market value homes came here and dominated our real estate market. People who were born and raised here are being pushed out. You are right, Kitchener isn't a great place to live anymore, but not so much for the reasons you have listed.
The intent is not to stop anyone from moving here anyway. These are the reasons that people should be aware of before making their move. Well, for some it might be compelling enough not to move while for others these things wont matter as much. We do appreciate you taking time to share your presepctive on our content nonetheless. Kitchener is weird it’s like it has different towns and then nothing and then another little clump something like Mall or something it’s just weird and the people are not that friendly either I’m from Oakville Ontario and I live in Kitchener for six months and people did not like outsiders people that were not from Kitchener. They weren’t very nice to them.
Yeah, we do have some bad apples here for sure. The dynamics are evolving in Kitchener over past few years and locals were not prepared to deal with influx of people moving to this region from outside. Its unfortunate that you had such experience. We are blessed to have not experienced something similar yet at least.
Certainly worth mentioning them @MrParker. Elora is my personal favorite. People living in Kitchener and Cambridge could definitely enjoy these spots with a short drive outside town. Even Kelso Lake in Milton would be less than an hour. Great spot to enjoy outdoors. Cheers👍
Very true! Especially retail and entry level jobs are very hard to get by these days. We are seeing huge lineups of candidates outside retail stores these days for a handful of jobs.
Kitchener is a drop zone for newcomers to Canada, then add all the international and domestic students (Conestoga, Laurier, UW ) and they are all competing with the local youth who need entry level jobs as well, so yeah it's a bit of a quagmire. You are better off getting into a trade or some sort of specialized labor to make a decent wage around here.
In your notes, you say "Additionally, there is no subway or light rail system in Kitchener." Uh, as you note in the actual video, yes, we have an LRT that admittedly focuses on the King St. core of the city.
And where have I stated otherwise in this or any other video? But it is no longer as affordable as it used to be. Have you seen home prices here? Even rentals are crazy. People are renting master bedroom in their homes for $1400 per month. There was a time when you could afford one bedroom apartment for that much less than 5 years ago. That's my point here. Also consider Affordability is a subjective matter, to someone making $200k a year, those prices may still be affordable but I am referring to the vast majority of people who do not fall in that range when it comes to afford housing. At the end of the day kitchener remains affordable than mississauga and mississauga remains affordable than Toronto and so on. But just being cheaper than mississauga does not make any town affordable Habib. Hope you get my point. Thanks
I'm a Canadian living in New Zealand at the moment, I thought I could return home since the house rental prices here are also pretty high, but reading and seeing what's going on in Canada, I'll better stay put. Wondering if and when the Government changes will it get better, or is the problem the refugees and immigrates that drive the house prices and rents up? I mean the Government needs to sort out his own people first before inviting immigrants into Canada. They should place a hold on this until more housing is build
@Ice Voss Rentals are just as expensive here in suburbs as well. Candidly speaking, I don't forsee government changing their stance on open immigration policy anytime soon with our aging population and labour shortages. What would help is taking out some red tape that could result in more housing supply to support the infrastructure needs resulting from the sudden population growth. Just my two cents.
Prices have skyrockets across the region in last few years. I have buyers who bought in 2018 and now are sitting on hundreds of thousands in equity. It's pretty daunting to be in first time buyers shoes these days. I genuinely feel buyers pain working with them on a regular basis.

Living there was ok around the outskirts. But kitchener downtown is a dump imo. Lacks character, and too many junkies, way too many

There are plenty of rentals available around University area. Make sure to check out online and on Facebook groups.

My dad's house was worth around 100k some years ago, n now easily could be sold at half a mil
